Nah, the shadow was the criticism received for revival, the shadow is born in the beginning from that tablet displaying criticism towards Em, he tried to run away from it but it kept chasing him until it finally got to him resulting in the creation of the Kamikaze album in which he disses everybody. That's why at the end he steps on "revival".

The symbiote is this destructive force just like the criticism and Venom is the host influenced by the symbiote making it dangerous, so Em turned into Shady due to criticism just as the symbiote turns to Venom, cause and effect, but that's just my take

I'm the same way as you Tom, I don't usually listen to vulgar music but sometimes I just listen to Eminem to admire his talent. There's so many great references and punchlines in this song but 3 of them are my favorite: the Hunger Games reference (one of my favorite movie franchises), comparing the Grammy's to leeches and saying "every parasite needs a host" absolutely brilliant and straight facts, and also "I have no faith in your writer's, I don't believe in ghosts" lol.

Fab reaction Tom! And I totally agree - this is my fav type of Eminem track!! The Kamikaze album is full of tracks like this and it all came from the hate he received for Revival. (The album he stamped on at the end). Em tried something new with Revival, tried to focus more on content but had a lot of production choices people didn’t like - and so many features with more ‘pop’ centred artists. For me, it has some of his best writing on tracks like Castle, Arose, Walk on Water etc. But there are quite a few tracks I’m not a huge fan of. He did something different though - and Em thinks a lot of people didn’t give it a chance. That’s why he ‘surprise’ drops albums now, so the press don’t have time to start slating the track list, the features etc. For the launch of Curtain Call 2 last year, Paul Rosenberg (Em’s long time manager) did a special podcast series. He had people on that were important in Em’s career and who knew him well - Skylar Grey, Royce, Mr Porter, etc. Then Em did a special 2 part episode with him talking about the hate he gets etc , if you’ve not heard it, it’s definitely worth checking out. I’m sure people will have commented on the 50 Cent bar already lol! You were right that he mentioned Joe Budden and ref’d his DV allegations. The Lord Jamar bars were also funny, Lord Jamar had said that Em was a guest in the house of hiphop and compared him to Elvis taking over Rock and Roll back in the day. So essentially, making money and penetrating a culture that wasn’t theirs to begin with. So I think that’s why Em talked about breaking into his ‘house’, putting his feet up, using the remote etc. And that also came off the ‘pelvic bone’ bar! Lol! With the black figure, all through the video, Em looks like he’s trying to get away from it, but at the end, he looks like he accepts it back into him and jumps out the window. I think this represents the Slim Shady side of him that he’d tried to get away from in Recovery, Revival etc. He was accepting that shady will always be a part of him - and he’s continued with that for the most part with MTBMB and Side B, signing his album notes as ‘Shady’! Lol There was also a tie in with the black figure and Venom, the Marvel movie - and last track on the album. This video goes straight into the Venom music video. Great reaction Tom! ❤
