Interesting thing is that this was written while he was at the height of his addiction and he still had so much insight. I think this was definitely written from a dark place. He had two uncles complete suicide, his mother has significant mental health issues, he had a suicide attempt before he was signed and his ex-wife has had several attempts. Big family history. Kids turned out really well though from all accounts being a father was the most important thing to him. I like your reactions they're very thoughtful.

This song was one of my daughters favorite songs and at age 29 she tragically died. I couldn't stop listening to it and the lyrics about and when I'm gone just carry on don't mourn ...rejoice at the sound of my voice. ....It's heartbreaking and I played it at her memorial and there wasn't a dry eye. ....This song is something very different to me.

As a writer, his lyrics are incredible and so brave. His love of his children is real. He gets deep and I love it. Most artists would never be this real.
@petermorcos15192 жыл бұрын
I've always thought this entire song is a clever double entendre. The clearest theme, and the one you've examined very thoroughly, is the relationship with his daughter. The obvious meaning of the chorus and the song title is that Eminem is telling his daughter to remember him after his death. But the other theme is Eminem realising that his career (and in particular his alter ego "slim shady", a name he used in his earlier albums to voice some of his most controversial lyrics) might need to come to an end so that he could look after his children. In that sense, the chorus and song title are a message to his fans - don't be sad that I've "killed"/retired slim shady, just rejoice when you hear my songs. Indeed, there was a 5 year gap between this album and his next, which I suspect allowed Eminem to become a more full time dad. I don't think most people consider the possibility that this song is also his goodbye to his fans because he realises that he needs to prioritise his family, not his career.

From what I've seen on other reactor channels, Eminem videos don't tend to get blocked for the most part. Probably because Eminem highly approves of reaction channels. Also, Eminem is a fantastic father. He not only raised Halie, he adopted his niece Alaina (Kim's sister's daughter), and Stevie (formerly known as Whitney), who is the daughter of Kim and another man. And he did a wonderful job with them. And when Eminem was starting his career he took his brother out of the foster care system and took him in. Eminem plays the bad guy in many songs, but truly has a heart of gold.

At the start of the second verse he says "I keep having this dream," and everything after that is a dream, his daughter piling boxes, the room turning into a stage, daughter being in Sweden among the crowd, and him killing himself. Also Kim tried to kill herself by cutting her wrists. This was after they broke up and got together again. Eminem was going to perform at a concert and asked Kim to attend. Kim said she would only attend if he did not perform a song called Kim where Eminem brutally murders her. Eminem agreed but then performed the song anyway in front of her and the rest of the crowd. This caused Kim to try to attempt suicide. This is why the song says "help mommy, her wrists are bleeding."

I think this is the first reaction I've seen that actually could keep up with this song in particular. Some things you were wrong on, but most of them weren't in the song itself, just more small things about Eminem. You caught the fact that the plane crashing wasn't an actual plane like so many non-fans or channels thought it was. It was indeed a symbolic plane crash! And yeah, the song is more a representation of how he feels and what he wants to show both her and the world. It is NOT a candid retelling of real life events, like some seem to think. I'm not trying to be mean, I understand it when someone who isn't a "Stan" doesn't quite understand him or his songs! I'm a lifelong Stan, but I also struggle to understand many other artists or meanings etc, that other people understand and relate to! We all have our own things, and we're all beutiful for it!

What I've also noticed, and I don't know if this is just my theory but: everything that happened in his dream, is what actually happened. Not the fine details, but the rough outline of it. He didn't have a happy ending with Kim, everything didn't just stop and suddenly became easy. When he wakes up and everything is good all of a sudden, I think that's what the real Eminem was dreaming of. And the song kind of turned it around and added in some details.

But I’m still very much in the grasp of alcohol, kratom, and suboxone. Just anything to make the pain ease itself. I’m diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. And god… it’s such a difficult thing to live through. I was a sensitive child who went through trauma and abuse way too young. So thank you for being someone who clearly understands these kinds of things. I relate to Juice Wrld and Eminem a lot. And xxxtentacion. But it’s hard thinking I might at any moment fail my family or little siblings. It’s hard. I go to therapy regularly and if I wasn’t doing that I believe I’d be dead. But man… if it isn’t still very very hard to get through each and every day.

Eminem, Marshall Mathers, and Slim Shady are all alter egos that he uses to rap from different perspectives. Slim Shady is the crazy, zany, obnoxious, say anything to trigger you character. Marshall Mathers is the battle rapper, attacking his critics, kind of poetic justice character. And Eminem is the polished entertainer who is there to please everyone, showing off his amazing skill set - lyrics, a little shock, story telling, comedy, and drama. His ability to write from these three perspectives is bar none! He's a master of his craft, a legend, a hero, and he is and always will be the G.O.A.T.!!! The whole visual was a dream. Basically, he was working/touring constantly and had inner guilt knowing he wasn't around his family as much as he should have been, he had a dream (most likely triggered by the feeling of guilt) where Hailie came to one of his concerts which was in another country at the time. The most important thing to Em was always being able to provide so his kids wouldn't have to suffer the way he did but he realized he was making them suffer in a different way and had to better balance his work/home life. He didn't tour for several years while Hailie was growing up. He went to his label and basically said I have enough money to last the rest of my life, I want to do tours in shorter legs so he could go back home and be there for a few nights a week and the label agreed because it was that or no touring at all. The shooting himself was more of a metaphor that he was killing the old "shady" in order to be there for Hailie. As a father of a 6 year old girl, I relate to this in so many ways.

The song is the perfect example of why I say that no one will ever defeat Eminem in a rap battle because he put everything everything out there for us all of this pain and suffering and you put it in ways that helped us understand our pain and suffering because he's accepted who he is and what has happened and not only that but what he has caused to happen and that's what makes you a man in this world. I guess the lesson is you are who you are and you've done what you done stand-up step up and accept that don't put it off on anyone else don't try to blame anything else you made your choice now you have to live with your consequence and it's a lot easier to live with that if you're willing to accept that you caused it you did it because the truth of the matter is if you realize that and you accept that then you can change you can make a different Choice next time and there will be a next time but if you make excuses and you're going to make the same damn mistake over and over and over and over

I'm suffering with Schizophrenia and borderline issues and I've ALWAYS loved Eminem. It's awesome to see you analyse it, even if it doesn't need it

As a single dad who works all the time I really can relate to this. I walk at least 8 miles a day 5 days a week at my job and there are so many days I just want to go home and relax. I know my son just wants to spend time with me so I've really tried lately to do something special with him every day. Even if it's just an hour or two. He's what drives me every day and I find now that I'm trying to make time for him every day it helps me make it through my work day even more. He has no idea how much he drives me but I hope one day he will when he has kids

you should do Castle and Arose in this order next! they're like letters to his daughter, his story after overdosing and the aftermath of it. Really touching and emotional

I’ve been watching your channel for awhile now, it’s great. The fact that your a therapist it makes it 10x better. You get to dive In their mind while their rapping, and you get to tell us…it’s incredible. Whenever you can, can you react to the song, “never love again” by Eminem, would love to see you reaction and thoughts.

I LOVE this reaction! Eminem is such a powerful storyteller but more importantly I love the message that this isn’t something super rare, this is a struggle a lot of parents, especially dads, face. I think men in general have a huge disadvantage when it comes to mental health and seeking help for that, and I want to encourage more to go to therapy or talk to anyone! Therapy personally helped me so much. Dads out there or anyone: please don’t be scared or feel pressured to not reach out for help! It’s not shameful to not have all the answers

He has 3 personalities in his songs Eminem: A battle rapper that got famous overnight and doesn't know how to deal with the imdeiate change in his life Slim Shady: a physcopathic being and whenever in a song when he's talking about something horrible or doing something wrong it's him Marshall Mathers: A regular guy from Michigan

Thanks for the reaction. Really enjoyed your take on the song. If you would like to continue on the Eminem journey, I recommend listening to (the lyric videos of) Castle/Arose. Two songs that should be listen to together; back-to-back. The songs are a tale of hitting rock bottom and then "arising" from the experience.

@@ReactionTherapyOfficial you should set up a discord server where your followers can talk and chill. You could have a channel for song suggestions, and one where people can talk about their problems and get advice from others. It’s just an idea but it would be really cool.

I watched the video and I finished it, the way you explain things and the way you break them down it's really accurate. I really love your videos and I'm pretty sure people will watch you if you will have a better camera cause I like good quality a lot and people like that too, so get a better camera that has some crisp and it will be a really good improvement everything is so amazing! I'm trying to make my comment professional maybe that's why it wouldn't seem as much real but that's how I really feel lol. I loved the video and I love Eminem please do more :) You can do more Juice WRLD as well cause I'm really a big fan of his.

So in the 2nd verse Em is telling you he keeps having this dream while in the third verse he is still talking about this dream, but realizing that the dream has become a nightmare. He then wakes up and realizes that in his quest for making sure his family has a roof over their head, he lost sight of what really matters. Em’s story telling is insane.

As someone who grew up with her father gone all the time for work, I listened to this song a lot.. but I did understand that my dad was gone to provide for me and my siblings. It does hurt that he wasn't there for a lot, but I knew he loved me, and when he was there, I was so happy to see him.

Another great reaction. Thank you, Tom! It’s crazy how I still know all the lyrics to this song even though I learned them like 1.5 decades ago. Anyway, I know I’ve suggested a few songs so far but here’s another one for your list (hope that’s ok): Endless Nightmare by Josh A and iamjakehill. 😊

I had a father who worked out of town most of my childhood. Depending on the time frame, he was home weekends, monthly, or less. It creates more problems then people initially realize. For example, because of his rarity my mother would get jealous of the positive-only attention he tended to get. So much so she’d store up punishments and demand he discipline us when he got home, sometimes weeks later. It didn’t work well because we knew it came from her, so it just made things worse. It takes a long awhile to understand and get over things.

With the last part in the third verse, with the consert and when he says he killed slim shady, he’s saying that he kills the old slim shady and his crazy thoughts, and the whole consert was just a choice for him. If he were to choose the crowd, and not killing the old slim shady, he would lose Kim and Hailey and become slim full time. But he didn’t, he chose his family and waked up to everything being alright. So the consert part was just a dream of him having to choose.

Mockingbird is a great song to react too. I know the 2 artists aren't usually mentioned together after everything but machine gun Kelly's '27' and 'glass house' are great too. Em wrote this during a huge drug addiction so it hits hard.
