I have the Ally X and the Legion Go, I'm returning the Ally X, I do like it, i prefer the Armory Crate over the Legion Space software also I prefer the tighter analogs but its just the same 7inch screen I cant justify as I'm so used to the Legion Go, the Ally screen is just too small for my eyes...Lets hope the Ally 2 increases the screen size and possibly OLED.

Rog Ally is finally getting the love it deserved from the beginning. Hope everyone tries out how awesome the Rog ally and the Ally X. Is. Ally x has the best battery and performance. Ally still has top tier performance just smaller battery (solved with a 50000 mah battery pack tho)

Great video, as always! I had a Legion Go, but after updating Legion Space to the latest version, the app wouldn’t open. Following a BIOS update, the device completely bricked itself. Fortunately, I had purchased Best Buy protection, so I returned it and ended up with the Ally X. I haven't regretted the switch at all-the ABXY buttons work perfectly, and while I do miss the larger screen of the Legion Go, the battery life on the Ally X has been fantastic.

The battery life was a bigger jump up than I had anticipated. The battery was double the size, so I was expecting double the battery life… I don’t know what black magic they used on top of the battery increase but I’m getting close to 3 times the battery somehow.

Ally X if you want most performance and most battery life Steam deck if u want… trackpads. Oh and easy console interface but it’s very limiting tho

if you want to emulate and play smaller games and you have a desktop steam deck oled no question the ally x is overkill. if you want to have one system that can replace everything else and the option to play ANYTHING handheld ally x for sure

Ally X, it does everything the SD but better and more. Use gamepass, play games that have anticheat, fortnite, destiny 2, CoD, ea sports titles. Linux is an inferior experience when it comes to gaming. The whole console interface is overblown.

@@FierroSev it doesn’t play kingdom hearts because of rdna3, it doesn’t have trackpads to support games that use them , it doesn’t perform nearly as well at low TDP, even with the bigger battery it doesn’t outlast SD Oled in lower power titles, no hdr , doesn’t support quick resume, etc. Let’s be honest though Linux can be frustrating but that won’t always be the case the Deck shows devs there is a less power hungry alternative to develop for and let’s all hope that continues so our software can be open source and we can stop replying on windows for gaming. Gamepass for PC is not great, not even half the console catalogue so that’s not a selling point, if you’re a pc gamer playing anti cheat games with a controller instead of mouse and keyboard on a desktop you might wanna reevaluate cause you can be light years more precise so that’s not really a selling point , and as far as the Deck’s console interface, it’s the first PC in history to do it so it’s not really overblown, it’s actually very good you don’t have to see any of the nasty back end stuff you do on windows you just click play. This is a double sided coin however cause if a game won’t run it’s much more frustrating on deck to fix it or figure out why than it is on full windows 11. I have the SD OLED LE and I just got the ally x but I also have a 4080 desktop, and I will say the Deck is still the best it’s what you want out of a handheld and I wouldn’t consider selling the deck even though I picked up the ally x. Desktop for shooters with keyboard and mouse, Ally for bigger games(open world and such) where 1080p and vrr will enhance the experience, Deck for everything else

Well said. If I did not have a portable PC or gaming device, the Ally X would be on the top of my short list. Battery life is king for portables. Nintendo knows this. This is one of the reasons why the old school Nintendo Game Boy out sold the more advanced Sega Game Gear. With that said I am totally fine with my original Steam Deck, my Switch OLED, and my Analogue Pocket. Even after so many years of use my OLED PS Vita, my Nintendo 3DS and my Nintendo DS are still powering up and work perfectly. One can only hope the new portables have the durability of those old systems and before people say those old systems are out dated tech, when they came out they where cutting edge for their time especially the OLED PS Vita. It all comes down to quality engineering and design and quality control. Personally I could see my Switch, Steam Deck and Analogue Pocket lasting for many years to come.

Loved the Ally, but that battery life was killing me. Ally X has solved that, and I also use it as my desktop replacement. I wish reviews would mention this dual-purpose nature of the Ally vs Steam Deck, Ally X is such a good replacement for a desktop or mini pc now that the ram is up to 24gb.

If on an intense game where steam deck would need its full 15W tdp, total power draw would be about 25W, same as Ally X if you set a 17W tdp. At that point SD (oled) would get 2 hours of battery life while Ally X would get 3. Ally X has a 60% larger battery than SD Oled. At lower tdp where SD is more efficient, the bigger Ally battery makes up for a lot. I can get 3+ hours of elden ring or bg3 on ally X.

I wouldn't be surprised if they makea new external GPU. Battery life issues reminds me of the Game Genie and how it would eat up those AA batteries. Besies battery life, I'd say the next issue is storage. The cost of price per GB with an NVMe is still not within the HDD range. It wouldn't be as bad if they had it so you could easily upgrade the internal storage and it had 2 NVMe slots.

As someone who has experienced external GPU enclosure (I'm using Razr) via Thunderbolt port, there's certainly some input lag (maybe unnoticable playing AAA, but you will definitely feel it playing RTS/FPS games)

It's a USB4 port not a TB one. You would think a system that has more RAM would be perfect with the XGM port but nope. I got the OG Ally with an XGM 6850M and I have no regret about it. The total cost was only $1,300 for a decent spec PC setup. I don't use it anymore and gave it to my daughter for her to use while I just got the Go again myself. I originally got it at lunch but returned it as it wasn't ready for primetime but now it is and I saved a lot of money at the same time as I only got it for $580 new then updated to 2TB just like what I did with my OG Ally. I won't be getting the Ally X and will be waiting for the Strix Point handhelds next year. Can't wait for that 10-20% uplift in performance! Hopefully with an large VRR OLED screen!

It’s a great device but I want a place for all my games again and I’ll purchase through Best Buy with no issues when returning. I used the og ally and legion go for 45 days a piece then returned them and they didn’t have issues I just wanted to try steam deck Oled.

Hi I received my ally x on launch day going from a steam deck oled, I checked all the buttons upon opening the box and they were all good, a day a later pressing down on the Dpad it squeaks, and my left trigger works fine but it feels like a little click feel at the end hopefully these things resolve them selves I can imagine returning and receiving another with worse problems like light bleed on the LCD which mine has none.

Yes I recommend as well. I have a steam deck Oled and it’s great but I want a place for all my games natively and a bit more power. I never use the track pads as I don’t play RTS games. Both are great devices but it’s nice to have game pass and not buy every game on steam.

Yeah. You’re getting more fps performance at 1080p than the deck can get at 800p Ally battery and chip combo makes it so that the ALLY is stronger, last longer, and can’t be scaled down much better than deck. When using equivalent settings and resolution, the Ally doubles and sometimes more than doubles the deck’s performance

It is mostly the same. It has more RAM and better battery life though, but it does not look like it has significant impact on the games though. At least not yet. They can tweak it with updates, but for now really you can compare Ally vs Steam Deck videos.
