Of course you've heard Geoff with instruments before - although they're generally not so much to the forefront. Think of the strings in Misty Mountains and Castamere, and you even SAW him playing the keyboard in High and Dry! 🤣
@shirleykarr5602 жыл бұрын
Not to mention the keyboard in Blackbird and an actual piano in Shenandoah. We've heard him use guitar plug-ins for Country Roads, Bare Necessities, and Saddle Up ... but I think this is the first time using steel guitar or slide guitar. Both are hallmarks of western music, distinct from country music.

Wait! It's possible SauceyDad has a clone of his own doing the other Geoff Castelluci solo reactions and he just gave it away.
@delord16192 жыл бұрын
At the end of Bear Necessities, Geoff shouted out to some software company for the plug-ins they'd provided. Since then we've heard them used with basses off key honky tonk piano in Monster Mash( that could have been a special 'voice' on his electric piano.) But he's not bashful about using plug-ins and other tech in his solo work.
@stephaniegeer16912 жыл бұрын
Also,you must gut have watched him sing Shenandoah in which he plays the piano,or in Black bird in which he also plays the keyboard.😄if you havn't checked either of those out yet,please do.both are fantastic!😃thanks! You might enjoy his cover of Monster Mash or the Headless Horseman for Halloween!!they are both incredibly phenomenal!!!😄✌ out dude.

He has given them names. Started already in Way Down. From left Jeff, Daryl Geoff, Goff(apparently lefthanded) and Jeoph. They are listed by those names as back-up vocals in the description. Why Daryl? Bc he looks like a Daryl according to Geoff.
@christinestromberg40572 жыл бұрын
Geoff frequently uses plugins to give some instrumentation. Not usually this much though. He's excelled himself this time.:) I love the guy. Time? He started this in June but due to various holdups had to put it on the back burner. And yes he spent a long time and at one point felt he needed to redo it, but Kathy put her foot down and said they weren't going to start a tradition of that, after doing it last year. :)

I loved the little "discussion" they had on the BTS video between Kathy and Geoff on that point. Geoff is a smart man, he knows when to agree with his wife!
@janetdw2 жыл бұрын
This one is a double whammy as while the video is spooky season perfect, the audio can be enjoyed all year long. It isn’t what I would normally look for in a playlist, but it is so good that I’ll be listening to it year round. In addition to recording vocals, transforming into ghosts and filming, there was a lot of post production. In the BTS, he explained that each 3d render to remove “artifacts” due to the green screen issues and Eli’s amazing visuals took hours and hours for the computers to process. For each of the 5 characters. And it took many tries. He was showing attempt 13 for one cowboy - that is a lot of time and effort. But the final product is amazing. And amazing is what the VP Halloween video is as well. Rick Underwood and team really got a workout between this, Hall of the Mountain King and the new Halloween song. Even watching Layne being transformed, it is hard for me to recognize him. So crazy-spooky!! And the song is very creepy…. And I can’t get it out of my head 🤯.
@shirleykarr5602 жыл бұрын
Possibly the biggest shock for me was seeing Layne clean shaven. Lol!

Great reaction, SauceyDad!! Kathy said once that if she wants to find Geoff, she doesn't do anything. She just waits because if he's not singing, he will start soon. I can't decide which is my favorite part - either the yippe yi ay that you went back to or the whistling. I love to hear a man whistle!
@StephanieGraham01292 жыл бұрын
Loved your reaction for this! He had started this project back in August but had to put it on hold. He released Rains of Castamere instead. The reason it took so long amongst other things was the green screen editing. Eli did all of the background work and lighting. And of course it was filmed at Pattycake. Kathy helped with the filming. Can’t wait for you to hear the new one from VP! 😊
@jackyfriedman19632 жыл бұрын
They all have names now. Left to right... Jeff, Daryl, Geoff, Goff and Jeoph. This is awesome. This was filmed at Pattycake Productions. Eli helped him with lighting and green s screen. This the first time he's used it in his videos so was a learning experience for him. Great reaction

Geoff hit your sweet spot. Great vocals and ghosts. What’s not to love?
@johnbattles10022 жыл бұрын
You mentioned Layne's part in the production of this, and that is true. But to give credit squarely where credit is due, Geoff's wife Kathy does the lion's share of the make-up and costuming! She's a genius of detail and realism!

This video was a difficult one tbh he started work on it in June, the green screen wasn't working so Eli stepped in with these effects. All Geoff's solos except Sixteen Tons have instrumentation. Rick Underwood does the incredible make up. You replayed my best bit! I tweeted Geoff 'this is my new favourite might as well have that tattooed at this point'. He threatened to start again but Kathy said no they did that last year with Monster Mash.

Sixteen tons has instruments too. The bass strings are not him

There are definitely strings of some sort in the background of 16 Tons, and some drum as well, although they're both very minimal and well-blended into the mix.

@randiskye44442 жыл бұрын
Geoff always has instrumentation in his solo work (it differentiates it from the group's work as a Capella). It's often more subtle than in this work. He plays piano but uses various plug-ins in much of his work. As far as his clock management, he believes in walking away from a project when he gets stuck and letting his mind work through it in the background. He has said it works for him, then also he has said he makes the piece the best he can in the time he has alloted for it.
@M119692 жыл бұрын
I commented on this video that Geoff owns Halloween. He picks great songs, does them perfectly.

Thanks for your reaction! Voice Play recently dropped "Hall Of The Mountain King" and have another one coming out that is amazing (I saw it on Patreon ). Don't forget Halloween is coming and Voice Play and Geoff have some great ones for the season. Also, Omar Cardona is on this season of "The Voice" (Omar's blind audition is on You Tube and is amazing!) We would have like to see Omar as a permanent Voice Play member but are very excited for him and hope he wins.

I actually like this cover more than The Man in Blacks' version. As others have mentioned, Geoff took a lot of time on this one. It took a lot of work and learning on his part. As to instrumentation... basically all of his solo work has it to some degree or another. This one just has it in, perhaps a more noticeable way.

Most times it takes Geoff and Voiceplay a couple weeks from start to release to KZbin to do a video. However. This Geoff started in June. He was having Alot of problems with it so he set it aside and did The Rains of Castamere instead. He picked it back up and of August. Was doing ok til filming. His backdrop didn't arrive in time so he called Eli to help him with lighting and green screen as he'd never done green screen before. Everything went smooth until he was keying the characters (making them transparent). Nothing was working. Night and day he worked on it. Finally a week before he released it to the public he released it to patreon. He said that Sixteen Tons was only a week start to finish. Same with Big John. Otherwise a couple weeks.
