As others have said, its about police brutality. The song was written after Rodney King was brutalized in LA and triggered the famous LA riots. A side note, Bulls on Parade is a phrase used to signal that cops have shown up to a protest. Ps. Anyone complaining about the Ad can go to hell. Get that bag.

Actually, no offense, but I still think you aren't quite understanding the message. This song refers to police brutality and the overall oppression of minorities in this country. When the song says _Some of those that work forces, Are the same that burn crosses_ they are referring to white police officers who are also in (or act like) the KKK. The KKK was known for burning crosses in the yards of black people as a form of intimidation. "The Machine" in their name refers to the government, or other large, repressive authoritarian body. They don't just rage against the American machine, either. Their songs address many injustices around the world.

@@AGDinCA Right Papi. He'll get it. When you get older and see or experience a lot more your perceptions change. Tbh his interpretaion showed innocence (imo). One can surely say that such innocence can leave you vulnerable and out of touch with reality but i thought it was a bit refreshing. Untainted. lol Is that Coolio on your pic? Im sitting here (South Bronx NYC) trying to figure out your name's meaning. So I guessed Accelerated Gradient Descent in Califonia then I guessed Attention Getting Dude in Cali then Ambitious Gay Dude or A Gangsta Dude then A Gay Duo ( thats from a Saturday Night Live skit) lol then A Gamer Dude or A Great Dude or Alpha Gamma Delta or A Grown Dude or A Grown Dork or... @@Animal_Liberation_V Yep, that's Coolio. Your guesses about my screen name were hilarious! AGD are my initials and I live in California. Nothing too creative in my user name. The funniest thing though is that I'm a middle-aged white woman. Most people assume I'm a black man because of my Coolio pic. LOL 😂😂

@@Animal_Liberation_V The issue is this generation has no understanding or knowledge of 'the machine' anymore. Have the kids out in force 'raging against the machine' and they don't even realize as much, or why they're even out there. Maybe someday they'll understand it's about the NWO that the world has fought over since the earth has been populated. Not a single government on this planet is 'here to help.' Kids need to learn that in today's world. They don't see what's coming, and they're in the middle of it like puppets these days. Being used by the machine and they have no idea they are, makes me laugh.

The line "Some of those who work forces are the same who burn crosses" is referencing police officers and KKK lynchings. Also important, this song was written right after he had lived through the LA riots. Those riots occurred after a jury aquitted 4 LAPD officers who had been charged with using excessive force in the horrifically brutal beating of Rodney King. That was the final straw for a community who had been subject to police brutality for far too long. Sadly, as you must know, it has not stopped. Great reaction, but time to up your history game. Keep going, you'll get there. Enjoying what I'm seeing. Having been at these shows it's great to see someone your age responding to them with passion..

So the video (not the live version) is much better in terms of understanding the content of what RATM is about. Police forces in America were primarily used to catch slaves and ensure slaves weren’t “out of line”. The creation of what is now our states police departments are inherently a racist structure that does not have the primary goal of ensuring public safety - its goal is to force compliance. The officers aren’t taught to use critical thinking skills, discretion, or de-escalation. They are taught to rely on quick thinking, fear of others, and they use force to gain their objective. People whose belief systems are biased (like KKK members) cannot and should not be in systems where they enforce laws and have the power to take someone’s life without any repercussions or without even having a reason to have done so. This song is urging people to stop complying with these heavily biased systems that do not attempt to deliver equal treatment to everyone in the US and abandon the idea that they are there to help you.

Zack is spittin’ facts!!!!! This song is pretty hype, not many bars. Simple, but potent. They have many other songs that are more bar heavy. Political, all the songs are political. They’ve got mad knowledge to drop. Tom is a Harvard graduate, Zack’s great grandfather was a Mexican revolutionary. They are educated ( traditional and self) and they are pissed

RATM was a extremely controversial band in the day, in some case they were even banned from performing, when they performed in the U.K they asked to not drop any F bombs, but that didn't happen and they were cut off, LOLOL. This band was great in the day, very politically charged but so were the times, just like today. RATM would have a field day if they were still together. Tony Morrello, and Tim Cummerford, Zack De la Rocha I believe still play. After RATM, there was Audioslave, Prophets of Rage, Axis of Justice. All were very good iterations of an idea and Tom Morrello brought it all together. Check out Prophets of Rage and Audio Slave, Audio Slave's lead singer was none other than the late great Chris Cornell of Sound Garden fame.

Nahh. This song is telling you you can live in the world and be who you want… it’s acknowledging the box we are kept in, meant to believe we can be who we want to be… as if the borders that surround us are the default. Keep us thinking we are free so we don’t challenge those who create and maintain the box.
