Very Nice- Thank you!!! OT... As a much, MUCH older person, I feel obligated to make suggestions to younger people. :) My suggestion: when piercing shipping tape on a box use a car key or something less risky (and shorter) than a Samurai sword ;) -especially on a box containing an expensive DCF tent. And finally never pull a knife toward yourself (it can become a bad habit). Thank you again and keep up the great work!

I'd love to see a full review of the DCF "The One". I own the sil-nylon one myself and I love it, but I am hoping to do some longer tru-hikes in the coming years (looking at the AT) and would love to have a DCF tent if I can afford it, so I've been looking at "The One" again and also the Zpacks Duplex...still undecided.

I was torn between the DCF and SilNylon 2020 version. I actually went for the SilNylon not because of price but because that version is quite a few inches longer than the DCF (and 2021). Having tried it out once I'm pretty glad I chose the SilNylon 2020 just because there's plenty of room at the head and foot (I'm 6ft) with a nice thick pad still.

I bought the 2020 version of sil-nylon version on sale. Down sizing from the Two. Looking forward to getting it out soon. Thanks for the info/first look.

@@pieonthetrail did you use the One on the Sierra High Route? Tentatively planning the JMT this summer (have the permits, trying to sort out work schedule) and plan on using the One. Considered freestanding options, but the packability and weight of the One are hard to beat. Thoughts?

Like the SilNylon DCF combo very much. But using #3 zipper instead of #5 and .51 instead of .68 or higher denier makes it a no go for durability reasons!

Thanks for the review. Trying to decide between this and the silnylon version. The price and packed size of the nylon seems much better, but the advantage of DCF in moisture handling is also a big factor. Since you own both, in which situations would you bring one over the other? Do you think the silnylon one would get the job done in most scenarios?

@@pieonthetrail Realistically how much of a difference there is between the Silnylon and Dcf regarding condensation, Pine? I am in the market for a new tent, for when I am out with my girlfriend. I am looking for something a little bit spacious. Currently have my eyes on the Tarptent Stratosphere, but the weight is my only concern. The other one I have my eyes on is the Two, but being such a light tent, thinking about durability :p. How durable did you find the one in Silnylon? Thanks

does dcf version have attachment loops on the outside top where the trekking poles would come to the top so you can set the tent up without any poles.

Sil floor no thanks. I'd love to see the size packed compared to the TT Protrail Li. You want tons of space that's the tent to get.

@@pieonthetrail A silnylon floor is fine but on the Sil One version they have 10D, on the DCF One they have 7D, much lighter and more fragile. They recommend using a groundsheet with it so add in the weight and price of that, unless you do Polycryo which is cheap but still ~1.7oz added weight. I get why they did what they did but I prefer DCF floors myself. Plus shouldn't it be a bit cheaper than an all DCF built tents? Zpacks and TT both are around $500 but all have DCF floors. Sil is much cheaper than DCF. Why it doesn't add up for me: 2020 Sil One is $240 and 19.9oz, 2021 Sil One is 17.7oz and $300, and DCF One is 15.3oz and $540. You're saving 2.2oz but spending $240 for that savings if you compare the 2021 Sil vs DCF, or $109 per oz. Add in a ground sheet (say 1.6oz Polycryo) and now you're just not saving any money or oz but spending $240 for nothing. Doesn't make much sense to me and I think most people will see that and opt for the Sil instead. The Protrail vs One: My Protrail Li is 16.5oz with a DCF floor + 1.5oz for the stakes. My Duplex's stakes (8 total) are 2.5oz same amount that the One takes. So DCF One 15.3oz + 2.5oz Stakes = 17.8oz (w/ ground sheet ~20oz). Protrail Li 16.5oz + 1.5oz = 17oz. Protrail Li I don't need ground sheet so even though the DCF One packs a bit smaller, due to the Sil floor, than the Protrail Li add in the bulk of that sheet and we are probably around the same size in the pack. I love GG have a few of their things, Thinlight and LT5s, but think they missed the boat on this One (pun intended). Also, I'd be curious on how the floor holds up on yours if you're running it with no sheet? Are you using it with or without one?

@@consumedesign completely agree, I found it truly perplexing aside from saving money to go with the Sil bathtub. It’s heavier than DCF, less durable, and takes longer to dry. The only thing I could possibly think of was packability, and yeah that seems cool but hardly worth the cost of admission. I’ll stick with my Aeon Li, although the packability is poopy, it’s light af and super roomy.

@@GettingCrunkBrotha Ha, I didn't even think of how much longer it would take to dry, but also I'm assuming it's pretty slippery like most DWR fabrics? I shake out my DCF and most times that gets rid of it. If anymore than that I setup early with it and let it dry out or hang it when I can which will completely dry it out. Try out the TT Protrail. I went from a Plex to that because I couldn't stand trying to fold around that huge piece of carbon and it never fit in the pack good. I don't have a ton of time in the Protrail but so far it's amazing. These guys are getting the DCF One for free and hell I'd love it if I got it for free as well. Who wouldn't?

@@consumedesign lmao same, I mean I’d take one if it was free but damn. I almost went with the Protrail but decided to go with the Aeon for two reasons. 1. Not side entrance :( I owned a Fly creek for years and have experienced the woes of front entry day in and day out. It may work for some people and Ik it probably would for me but damn I love the side entrance life. 2. No side guy lines, seems weird to not have them considering the normal one does, I feel this would add stability and room 🤷‍♂️. The packability and weight were alluring and who knows maybe I’ll switch, but so far I’m loving my Aeon and I can fit it horizontally at the top of my HMG junction.

@@GettingCrunkBrotha Ya I get that I had a Fly Creek at one point as well and if I remember correctly that was a pain in the a** to get into and out of. With the Protrail, and I'm not a young guy, I can crawl in and actually turn around in it to put my head at the door. Of course like most gear there's a few things that bug me like no mid panel tie outs, like you say, and that pole right at the opening. I angle it when I know I might get in and out a lot, but honestly, for me, I'm always solo when I go out (my friends suck) and I just hike till I almost drop, eat, setup my gear and crawl into bed. There's not much in/out unless nature calls. I love getting new gear and selling my old so, hey who knows maybe I'll dump the Protrail at some point for the Aeon as well, ha.

Hopfully doing the PCT next year... How was it using an trekking pole tent i the Sierras? Im looking at taking the DCF Tarptent Notch Li as my tent on the hole PCT. A lot of people recomand a freestanding tent thou... whats your thoughts?? Best regards from Sweden

I have that tent and I’m from Sweden. If you’re using trekking poles a freestanding tent is a waste of weight. I’ve added extra guy lines with loops to use rocks as stakes where you can’t use regular stakes.
