For whatever reason, this one sounds a little more friendly than the normal 421. I reeeeally like them, but they usually do their best being outside the cone--from my experience--and then you'd blend in another mic on the cap edge for the more direct tone. This version seems to get the job done on it's own. Interesting!

Using the mobile camera to record while the audio plays is such a simple but genius trick to figure out where it sounds the best.

Okay we all notice how awesome the gear sounds….but we need to give props for the riffs just getting better and better. Sounds badass dude.

421s just have this magic mid range detail I reckon, I nearly always blend this with a 57 and 121.

yeah, I can see use it for blending with another mic like the 57, but as a primary.......not so much.

Great video and sounds killer! Considering to buy one of these mics :-) I´m just wondering how you get a decent sound out of the Astro with the master that low? I also have an Astro 20 and with this setting I´m not hearing that much. Ok, maybe I´m a little deaf ;-) But thumbs up anyway!!!

I only have IR's to go on with the OG 421 (just like you) and hot damn do I hate that mic (sounds great on toms, though, as we all know). Pretty surprised how good this sounds.

How would you compare this Mic to the SM57?
@SonicDriveStudio2 ай бұрын
More round and full with a different top end character

Sounds like you could have gotten away with center micing it.

It's pretty smooth indeed! Could have gotten it to sound brighter but I wanted to demonstrate the fullness and roundness first and foremost. Later in the video you can hear it with various mic positions too

@@SonicDriveStudio mic it dark and add it back later if you need it. Easier to brighten a dark tone than take highs out. It’s not even close.

so… old, ancient microphones still sound good? germans developed nice communication technology long ago…😮

Wdym favorite for miking guitar cabs? Guy who almost exclusively uses IRs for everything. 😂 miking your guitar is fun isn’t it? Btw that tape has a shocking amount of influence on the sound as well.
