I have had this same saw for a few years now and I love it. Been using it recently to saw short Box Elder logs into some lumber. No matter what I throw at it the 2 HP motor never boggs down or acts like it's even breathing hard. It's a great saw! Thanks for the video.

Before you get it into the base, a 3" x24" PVC pipe is a great help in rolling it around and over the door threshold. One person can easily move a very heavy machine around. Also, great video. Thanks for the review.

What blade are you using for the re-sawing? I have the same saw and love it! For the dust collection I made a box that fits around the bottom of the table and use neodymium magenta to hold it together and in place the box is made of 1/4 Baltic birch plywood. when I needed to change the blade the sides pop off easily for blade changes and this arrangement collects all the dust. 😁🛫

Ah that's a great idea for dust collection! I may need to look into that! My go-to blade for resawing is the the 3/4" "wood slicer" from highland woodworking. This specific saw take a 131.5" blade. They're the best I've found and they're better than the more expensive blades I've tried.

I plan to order a Grizzly bandsaw soon and I was wondering how I would get the mobile base under the beast. Your explanation solved the problem. Thanks!

My dude with this much power at your hands you must ensure to keep your seed speed up a to keep the gullets full of material and moving through the material the shortest amt of time. Fastest feeding with barely bogging the motor and keeping wood cut good enough. be less picky on surface i dont mean peaks and valleys. But I don't mean glass smooth!
@SamMacyDesigns
@SamMacyDesigns Жыл бұрын
That's actually some great info! Something I hadn't thought about but I'll try it next time I do a round of re-sawing. Thanks for the advice my man!

@@SamMacyDesigns Yep. Like someone with a new entry wood processing saw mill. They think they are taking it easy on the machine, when in reality. They shave too small of a wood slice with each gullet and it leads go more friction. Less agressive feed leasd to saw blade touching pretty nuch much every molecule of wood, instead of rolls of wood a few thousands thick you get powder. should be spitting out "woodchips" of a sort.

I just ordered mine. It’s on back order. I’m really excited about it. My baby bandsaw is, well, a baby. Mine is supposedly to be shipped in mid November. One other thing you might to think about is having a flag or something on the quick tension lever so you remember to put the tension on before you turn the saw on. You probably new that, but I didn’t do it, and the blade almost fell out.

I've had this one for a couple years now and I still love it! Nothing can replace a good quality band saw. And it's funny you mention the tension lever....almost had that happen to me as well😂

I’m going to be getting this G0513X2BF or the G0513X2 in a couple of months when the snow starts to leave the ground. Can anyone give me any solid advice on the necessity of spending an extra $300 on the brake? I’ve read comments like “the blade won’t stop turning until after lunch” or “it’s a safety feature because you might not realize the blade is still moving”. I just don’t have that much experience with bandsaws to separate fact from flowery fiction. I’m not a professional, that is, I don’t make a living woodworking although I do have rentals that constantly need repair. Great video teaser BTW. Thanks
@SamMacyDesigns
@SamMacyDesigns 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you like the video! I'll let others chime in about the brake too but I personally have never touched the brake pedal on mine. Not sure if the $300 is for the brake pedal assembly or the automatic brake but if it's just for the manual brake option I don't think it's necessary.
@daviddille8887

@@SamMacyDesigns thanks Sam. The G0513X2BF has the magnetic switch and automatic brake, just like the one you reviewed. The question I’m facing is wether the 3 second stop is worth the extra complexity (more things to break) , and high cost, over the normal time for the non braked blade to stop moving. I have read reviews that the blade takes forever to stop and others that say it’s only about 15 seconds. Of course the physical properties of the wheels and blade would play a part in this. I have experience on baby bandsaws and wind down is not an issue. Hopefully you or some of your followers can give me the benefit of their actual experience on the time it takes the unbraced version of this machine to stop. I’m not in a production environment.

Two years have passed since this video. What are your longer term thoughts on this bandsaw? How well does it collect dust?
@SamMacyDesigns
@SamMacyDesigns 3 жыл бұрын
Still loving it! At this point I mostly use it for re-sawing wood and it does phenomenal. I think the dust collection could be slightly better but besides that I have no complaints. And when you're re-sawing dust is pouring out of this thing so the little bit left behind is probably just due to the fact that my dust collection system is under powered.

Regarding your comment on caster mounts being on narrow sides of saw so it could go through door. It seems that being on wider sides would be much more stable and less likely to tip. Get it through door another way and choose stable mount. Am I wrong?
@SamMacyDesigns
@SamMacyDesigns 5 жыл бұрын
The only problem with having them on the sides of the mobile base is that they don't allow the bottom door of the saw to open. I suppose an option would be to make some kind of spacer to raise the saw up a couple inches so you clear the casters and then have them on the sides? That would probably be more stable than what I did.

@@SamMacyDesigns - cuts great. If you adjust it too high or too low the blade guard will cock and get into the wheel. I ruined a tire setting it up doing this. Now that I know, its not a big deal, but it is still an annoyance. I also really like the fence.
