Shout-out to MPJ from FunFunFunction for seeing my anxious Tweets and messaging me. It would have otherwise taken a lot longer before I got this sorted out. This is also why I took a break from Discord and streaming, apologies to any communities on those platforms. My next dev log will focus on some of the writing and design work I've done over the past few months :)

TheHappieCat I kinda agree with the literature being"classier" statement. When it comes to Fantasy is too convenient to the author's favor and everything is just chalked up to magic in the end. Follow this up with the power Fantasy, and then it's just not important going through anymore ... unless it's one punch man.

It is truly great to see that there are women in game dev industry. It isn't as common here where I'm from (Czechia), because even right now during my IT studies here I can constantly feel that the teachers are automatically prejudiced to underestimate girls in IT, which is kinda sad. Thus I always get the feeling I have to outdo myself and my peers many times over just to be acknowledged for my skills and that takes a lot of willpower. I'm into game development myself, that's one of the reasons I subscribed to your channel, and it really brings me hope that one day if I work hard I can also get a job that I'll love at a studio somewhere. Congratulations and good luck! ^.^ Keep us (the subscribers) updated if you have time!

@onewhocartsthings6 жыл бұрын
Hey! The phrase where the author's icky voice is leaking through the prose is "authorial intrusion," which fits really well - they're intruding on the experience you were having with their art and being like "hey, what's up?" when you were perfectly happy alone in a room with their story.

I’m also reading “A Canticle for Leibowitz,” among a small pile of sci-fi classics that I picked up from an indie used bookstore, just having finished “Dune” (again). “Canticle” has some hilarious and unexpected turns, but it’s very familiar because so many post-apocalyptic stories seem to have borrowed from it. (Mad Max: The Road Warrior” and “A Boy and His Dog” certainly come to mind.) Bradbury, Clarke, and Ballard are also in the pile. All well worth visiting (or revisiting)!

As a software developer working mostly in front end and sometimes in backend, and in my free time playing around with Gamemaker and doing some things in C++ and learning, how someone should prepare for a Gamedev job? Congrats on the new job! just to make you feel better, just wanted to let you know that I know exactly what you are talking about when reading a book where you are aware of the kind of author writing the book and then not really liking him/her. I had that experience about a year ago with a book I thought was interesting when I read the summary of it about two rival hackers. But then I felt that the writer had a rather immature personality that resonated in the book. I stop reading after the first 20 pages.

✨Congratulations!✨ I enjoyed hearing you talk about what you were reading. One of the things I dislike most about games is the same difficulty you are having with hack writers. Wouldn't it be wonderful if game companies hired well-read, literate and articulate people to write their dialogue? Even the lovely Banner Saga has a horridly jarring conversation between two women on the subject of eggs, that completely ruins the immersive experience. Bad writing is like bad breath; it is impossible to ignore it.
@TildaM19946 жыл бұрын
I gotta say there are a few fantasy novels I enjoy, not because they are good but because they are absolutely terrible in the best ways. the story still flows well but the character interactions may be off or the dialogue is weird and I just enjoy it for some reason, like watching a bad movie, sometimes it is just so enjoyable. My favourite fantasy novel is The Redemption of Althalus if you'd ever give it a go or have read it. I really love the characters and how they all blend together and the romance wasn't even forced or ridiculous
