Just got a Miller Multimatic 220 and I love it! It's also a multi process welder that does MIG, stick, and AC/DC TIG. I did a lot of research, and I knew that i wanted a 220v machine and the ability to do AC TIG for aluminum.

Definitely get a bigger bottle. You don't need as much gas in an enclosed area, but need A LOT more when welding outside on a breezy day.

The Little Klutch MP-140i is super powerful on Mig output It's stick is quite a bit lower at 70 amps rated output. Tig is the same, so not really a great MP unit. The mig is excellent though. I had the Thermal-arc 141 too. I believe the Lincoln is a very nicely built little unit. (looked at one today) and should serve you very well..The new Lincoln machines from the Welding stores are all built great..
@Spruce-Bug4 жыл бұрын
If you need to weld thick, can't you just use a stick and do multiple passes like how pipelines are welded? Sure 240v welders are more powerful but is it that big of a deal if you can still do it with 120 on multiple passes? Or am i missing something?
@cortneywebb16774 жыл бұрын
You are correct most people dont realize the 5/16 inch rating is for single pass so if you need deeper penetration then you just need a slightly bigger gap and do several lap welds for build it up... unless i don’t know what I’m talking about... but pretty sure that’s what you do lol
@cortneywebb16774 жыл бұрын
Biggest benefit to 240v and a higher single pass is if your welding something and just don’t have a large enough gap to build up from... or if you only weld larger steel you would over use the welder having to constantly run pass after pass and not letting it rest

Me too. I have a Lincoln 180 DUAL mig with gas in my garage and an Ironton 125 flux core welder for tacking & small/quick/outside projects - but I'm hunting for something cheaper than my 180, more powerful than my Ironton, light enough to easily carry, and enough power to burn strong welds onto 1/4 and down steel. (this would be for use as a trail/camp welder when we go on wheelin trips)

You can do either, but pushing will produce better penetration with solid wire steel. There are times you don't have a choice and have to pull though. Practice and know how to do both, but favor pushing if possible.

Pull or Push does not matter. You'll have to do both when you are in awkward positions like building a roll cage, etc. Pratice both. Wire speed means "Amps" too. So as you turn up the wire feed speed, you also turn up the amps ... Lincoln guy so far. Since back in the days when I got my first AC/DC gasoline powered field welder (1970's). Have Lincoln LE31 coming right now (on order). Prolly get a Hobart 140 for Flux Core out doors on household current as my "portable" machine (gas gets blown away in breezes). My LE31 will stay on the bottle ... Put my old transformer Chicago Electric flux machine on the street today with a free sign. Gone in a couple of hours. All Inverter for me from now on :-)

I honestly can’t remember if I went through one spool or two but I was reading the wrong side of the gauge so i was using over double the amount of gas.

If you were getting a lot of spatter running flux you had it turned wrong. Flux runs buttery if set properly. Helps to have quality wire too.

Can I build a dump trailer with 140??
@cortneywebb16774 жыл бұрын
Sure you can. With a 140 amp it’s rated for 5/16 inch steel but many people don’t realize that’s for a single pass. So if you weld something thicker just think ahead and if possible increase the gap and lay 3 beads down or so by lapping them... one on each side then one down the middle just make sure to keep them clean before you run another bead
@emeraldseablues4 жыл бұрын
Did you change the polarity for gas? I just bought one of these so I'm learning and this is the 3rd video that didn't show changing polarity for gas, wrong polarity makes it hard to get a good weld.

The spatter isn’t because of flux, but your settings. You just have to get it dialed in right.

@adrdnk3 жыл бұрын
Has to be a mp unit
@MrCbell572 жыл бұрын
Nice. When you play with it you always get better. Ha. the key to getting good is to weld two pieces together. For practice instead of laying it in a flat piece only. Then look at your penetration. Wish I could afford to buy a tig, mig, separately as the thing is with multi use machines usually are limited and also if something happens or goes wrong you can lose use of all functions. You can lose it all at once. .
@moabwheeling5 жыл бұрын
Very nice welder . I have been looking at the one from Lowes , however maybe I will get one from a Lincoln retailer instead . I like you will have to do some practice welds to get it down . I'm happy you finally are able to get to use yours . The outlet that you used is it on its own or is it used in conjunction with other 20 amp outlets ? t
@jtmoffroad5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think either option will do just fine, I liked the aspect that this did other types of welding so that helped make my decision. That outlet is on a 30 amp breaker with I believe 3 other 20 amp outlets.
