I'd like to give you my opinion on the AOS Falcon 7. It flew great and the video was vibration free. But the clearance at the top towards the props is just millimeters apart. Add straps to that. If the battery slides it's game over. Sure, batteries should be properly fixed to the quad but the clearance was very limited. I chose to put the batteries at the bottom but this caused a problem with the CG (actually the CG is still a problem even if the battery is placed at the top since the GoPro is placed so much forwards). The back struts were in the way of the battery when I tried to align the CG. With the back struts removed, I could move the battery enough to the rear (it flew great). But placing a single Li-Ion battery pack at the bottom would result in a big lump of mass at the rear for a properly aligned CG. The quad would just tilt forward at take-off position. Arranging cables for a dual set of Li-ion packs at the bottom isn't easy since you have to make sure you have enough clearance for the props. Overall, I flew great but the limited options to place batteries is my biggest criticism with this frame. In this regard, RAD-Li-ion appears not to be that much better. Thank you for the content you provide to the community. Keep up the good work.
@FalconRadFPV Жыл бұрын
I don't get it. I fit 2 x 6s 21700 packs on my falcon 7 many times. I designed the top plate specifically to fit 2 6s 21700 packs. Are you using really tall motors? If so you should get some longer stand offs to get the top plate above the prop tips. I've done over 200 flights with each falcon 7 and RAD Li-ion and never had an issue mounting dual 6s 21700 packs on either one. Maybe watch my release videos for them to see how I do the battery installation. I've never had anyone mention batteries not fitting before?! I actually spent a bunch of time adjusting the falcon 7 design just for battery fitment and placement options....
@icp-trek Жыл бұрын
@@FalconRadFPV Perhaps we have different definitions of clearance for the props. The motor is Iflight 2806.5. With a pack of 6S 2170, the battery pack actually obstructs the air passage (from above). Distance from the tip of prop to a battery against the frame is about 3 mm (without any padding/antislip material under the battery). This is with a stacked 6s Li-Ion (3x2) with 0.4 mm between cells. Not saying that prop deflection at maximum rpm would actually hit the battery but it's close enough to make one concerned. Overall, my criticism is the clearance and the CG imitations. This is written to you as an owner of the frame and what I discovered as one mountain surfer to another. Would be happy to contribute to any future projects of yours.

This build uses Gemfan 7037x3 and the Falcon 7 uses Gemfan 7040x3. Check your black box analyzer display. The lower frequency resonance spike will likely be the cause of your jello issues. Quite likely that it will be most notable on the pitch axis. The props vibrate more quickly at higher throttle positions, as the prop frequency changes it will crossover your frames resonance peaks. Often its when they meetup that you get jello causing vibration spikes. Different props will vibrate differently, try checking the throttle vs frequency portion of the analyzer display (Blackbox)and you can see which throttle positions are causing the issues. Check with different props and see if there is a reasonable throttle value for cruising that doesn't have a red spot to the right of it. You can add throttle position to your OSD and then be able to keep it within the best range. For this frame and build, I try to avoid spending long periods of time at the throttle positions between 40 and 55%. Which works well for me because cruising out and back is when I stay at the same throttle position for a long time, but I do it at 30 to 40% throttle for efficiency so it works well for an extended range build. The Falcon 7 is different, it performs well at higher throttle positions. This is all with my own personal builds and and experience of course.

@FalconRadFPV2 жыл бұрын
Yes 1300kv F90's. An HDZero would fit as part of the main stack if you got the 35mm standoff option. In the back there is only 20x20. It would fit in the back but it would need some sort of mount for it. The Rush Solo VTX that I use has a smooth bottom and doesn't get too hot in flight, so I just use double sided foam tape/gasket to secure it down in back.

As long as you are not behind trees or something, you know you always have to have direct line of sight to the quad at range. I get video that is fairly similar no matter what my range is. With analog it will get a bit less bright and or crisp at the edges of objects but the overall quality remains, even at several km out. This is of course when using a good antenna setup for your video.

I like how complete this design is with all the TPU parts. Good job. Couple of questions: 1. Is there 20x20 mount on the rear for vista or vista can be used only with that TPU holder showed in video? 2. I cant find that vista holder on thingiverse. Probably will be added later 3. Will there be DJI Action 2 mount? 4. When ordered from cncdrones those short standoffs (5,8,10 mm) for HD cam receiver cover and immortal T antenna will be included or we have to source them out? 5. Will there be any protection for 6s pack on the bottom? I dont like those long landing supports. Would prefer some thin TPU cover for bottom pack and could be used with battery strap to secure for example 6. Will it fit 2x 6s 18650 on top plate without HD cam? Or you have to go 1 top and 1 bottom only. Thanks
@FalconRadFPV2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. 1. There is a 20 x 20 mount in the back but it is M3 holes and two of them are used for arm fastening. If the vista had M3 mounting holes it would work but they are M2 I believe so a TPU mount is needed or m3 to m2 adapters. I was just looking the design over, I could adjust the set of 20x20 holes away from the arm fasteners if I countersunk them so they didn't get in the way of the arms. I think I'll look into making that change. I'll have to check if they have 20mm M2 countersunk fasteners at the shop. If you want you can email me @ falconradfpv@gmail.com to check in about a timeline for the store version to be updated (as long as the test version I'll be getting works). 2. Sorry last thing to add is the vista holder, I'll do it now. Ok done. 3. I can make up specific mount requests if I can find an appropriate source to remix with my mounting. 4. Yes all the short standoffs and required fasteners + washers all come with the frame. As well as all of the motor mounting fasteners, 25mm stack screws, and extra 8mm fasteners for anyone that does not want to use the new standoff method of TPU mounting for the immortal t and / or GoPro. At the moment I only have the old style of mounting for the hero 8 on thingiverse. 5. Good thought about using a battery "skid cover" to protect the bottom. I've thought of it but always pass on making it because of the weight it would add if it was a 3D printed part. To cover the whole surface of the battery and a bit past the edges it would be getting pretty big, even with only 20% infill and 3 top and bottom solid layers it would still be fairly heavy. I'll calculate the aprox weight.....ok, well I was wrong, it's only about 10 to 12 grams. It's not nothing but it's reasonable. I've made up two simple versions of battery protection with strap slots, 1 x 20mm strap and another for my way of doing it 2 x 15mm straps. Ok, I'm printing it now to check the fit. I guess email me for an update on that one as well. 6. With no GoPro it will fit a 6s2p 18650 pack on top. They need to be long end to long end, if made in the square format it will get in the way of the props too much. (The motors are kept close in on this frame.) Mine are two separate 6s packs WITH padding on both ends of them and they fit, end to end. Just need to go easy on padding the ends if you do that. For a long one piece 6s2p 18650 it should fit the top plate easily. 153mm from back of the top plate to the cut out for the FPV camera up front. I'd recommend about 65mm or so as the widest battery it will fit. 150mm as the longest without GoPro. 120mm maybe 125mm long battery with a GoPro mounted up front.
@lackoluki2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for response. 1. Would be nice change as for example I like to use short standoffs and elevate vista little bit and run cables from vista and gps under vista. Will wait how this works for you. And also I noticed same 20x20 in front area where there is 1 more hole in the middle to pass immortal T antenna. Maybe would be nice to add some slots for zip ties as well if someone wants to use buzzer there or spike absorber with cap and secure it to the plate better. However then you cover that middle hole when you place buzzer or cap there. 2. Nice 3. Check this. www.thingiverse.com/thing:5083561 I use this on halorc archon v3. Works well. Maybe good platform to remix. 4. Nice 5. Looking forward how this works out 6. Regarding batteries I am thinking only 2 options. Either 18650 VTC6 3000mah 15A cont or Samsung 21700 INR21700-50S 5000mah 17A cont. If I go with 1 pack 6S2P 18650 6000mah 30A cont dimensions would be 110x70x35 and 600g weight. I guess this would fit top plate with HD cam mount but not laying flat on the 70mm side but would have to be on 35mm side. Then battery will be 70mm high. Not sure if this causes CG issues. With 21700 I would have to split it I guess. I would get in total 10000mah 35A cont and 900g weight. Could be still worth it. 10000 vs 6000 with 300g weight penalty.

@FalconRadFPV2 жыл бұрын
A more square profile is better for vibrations. BUT the price for carbon fiber jumps between 6mm and 7mm so it's not really viable to make a decent profit mass producing a frame that uses anything thicker than 6mm. 6mm carbon fiber is about 33% cheaper than 8mm.

Why did u chose fuzzy analog over HD ?
@FalconRadFPV2 жыл бұрын
The video reset lag on DJI seems sketchy to me, you pretty much HAVE TO enable GPS rescue mode with ANY video drop out because of the time it takes for the video to reset and start up again. It is a robust system and it doesn't happen easily but when you fly proximity at range, brief moments of video drop out are likely. I sometimes fly behind volcanic, peaks (like in this video!) for brief moments. No video system, no matter how robust will give you a constant video signal through several meters of a volcanic plug (high iron content) as I do in the video. With analog is goes totally fuzzy for a second then back to perfect. With DJI it goes blank then takes an amount of time to reset before video resumes. The way DJI passes the digital signal, video WILL NOT RETURN UNTIL it gets back 100% of the data for every single frame. A blackout of video like that can cost you your quad if flying in close proximity to the ground, as long rangers really should always do.

@@FalconRadFPV that was a brilliant response thankyou for that. Yea it must be nice to fly at awesome places like that. I live in indiana flat land and my goal only is to fly at free will 6mi. north of where my condo is to lake michigan tip which is where i work ( cleveland cliffs) and back. Or take to beach and fly down beach. Today my second flight of my new chimera 7 pro i guess i didnt have gps rescue set right or due to having buzzer on same switch on middle position was not good, and not having failsafe set to cut. When i tested gps at like 300ft up half mile up i noticed it was not coming directly back towards me after flicking gps rescue switch so i then put it back to take control and the bastard lost control and fell to ground which i thought was right on the only road at that distance but fell 3ft north of road thankfully and props still spun some and basically was just real dirty. Set it up right now i think but was raining so i will test tommorow. But i do not plan on using that one to go that far. I think my also new rekon 7 pro will fly more efficiently . And id rather do far flight down a beach or in 99% field land only . Going directly north i have to cross several roads and homes and dont care to accidently drop on one till i better trust my stuff.

The Falcon 7 won't go quite as far but it gets beautiful smooth GoPro footage. The RAD Li-ion fly's well but not on rails like the Falcon 7, but I can get further out with the RAD Li-ion and corner more aggressively. To manage the weight of 6s2p 21700 cells the weight of everything else needs to be keep down. All of the long range footage in this video was recorded with this build using that battery setup. The ideal setup in my opinion is 6s2p with 18650 cells. Like you mentioned, diminishing returns with the weight of the 21700 cells, I don't think the 18650's are far behind for range. I just got some P28A cells to make some new 18650 6s packs. I'll also be trying out a lightweight HD camera more soon. It should manage the 21700 weight better with a naked gopro or SMO 4K on board.

@FalconRadFPV2 жыл бұрын
I would recommend starting with a 5". It won't fly for as long but a good 5" build is crazy tough. EVERYONE crashes, especially when learning. You'll want durability to be the deciding factor for a first FPV drone. The bigger the props and lighter the drone the longer it will fly, and the more easily it will break. Going to light can cause issues with jello if using a GoPro or similar camera. This one does freestyle decently well though.

The emax eco 2807 are heavy motors but 55amps is alot. Is the current meter calibrated correctly? Send me a DVR and a picture of the quad with battery on it check out, falconradfpv@gmail.com I'll see if I can spot anything wrong or figure something out.

Sorry to hear that. Strange since my channel is 99% analog stuff. I just bought a DJI system for short and mid range stuff but have posted no videos about it yet.
