My New PB Swiss Dead blow Mallet, dual heads in the #1 size. This hammer is so cool!

This is my first time ever seeing a PB Swiss Mallet in real life. And it absolutely lives up to my expectations. For what would certainly be less than the price of a comparable Snap On, this PB Swiss mallet is the smallest size and had dual heads, metal and plastic. The handle is American Hickory. I cannot imagine how this hammer could be improved.

You may want to try out a Halder dead blow. Picard also sells them as its own, relabeled. The white nylon tips hit almost as hard as steel with the strike duration of a dead blow. I like hammers and have a couple of hundred from around the world. There's nothing like the Halder, IME. I have a bunch, including a 15lb sledge. The favorite is a little 25mm. Edit: You've inspired me to look for older SO tools. Just now, I came across a NOS 10-piece double-ended screw machine length drills. The sizes seem to have been chosen for threading. The packaging looks perfect, Starrett-like. $15 shipped. Why fight it?

which halder would be equivalent to the pb swiss in this video?

@@chingonbass Likely the 30mm.

I got a halder 20 and 30. I have been enjoying them a lot. the 30 is a nice medium. Surprising amount of weight for the size. almost hits as hard as my 38 mm thorex weighted mallet. the pb swiss is 27 according to specs.

@@WorkingViews do you have a link for the 20, 30? I did a search and pulled up a bunch of weird stuff.

I couldn't resist and picked up the #4. I really like it so far. The discs are alot more positive of a blow than the sand filled Halders. I'm gonna post a short comparing all my mallets. The sizing is kinda confusing on amazon sometimes.

Curious, why did you go with the plastic/engineer combo vs the all-plastic mallet? I am trying to decide whether to do the combo or all-plastic variant.
@WorkingViews
@WorkingViews 4 ай бұрын
@@anthonycvella it offers more option is a single package and i have dedicated mallets, which are nice for repetitive work where you don't want to risk accidentally using the hard face. The extra weight also lets it hit above its weight class. Used it to knock my rear drums loose when i did my brakes. I'll get the bigger ones eventually, when the jobs call for it but the 4 is really the perfect spot to start in my humble opinion.

I always thought it was a bit weird how the steel head is cushioned by nylon. I wonder what difference that makes, for better or for worse.

Lol why do people think wood grain should be straight with the head of the handle. STOP SAYING THAT. Correct wood orientation should be at a 30 degree angle to the head as it normally is on high end whacking tools. Remember one thing. The tool manufacturers know more than you do

My absolute favorite are the Kukko „selecthor“ hammers, here in Germany. Not widely known. Kukko mainly make pullers. The Kukko hammers have a head made from 2 cast-iron halves and have switchable „tips“. They feature a shot-case for the deadblow inside the head. Let me know if you need some pics from the internals….

Great assortment of hammers you have there. But I don't see a rawhide mallet in the mix.

Agree. Garland is the only US manufacturer producing rawhide mallets as they had been for generations. Same design. Thor in the UK also manufactures excellent rawhide mallets. I'm mentioning this for those who may want one. It's a remarkably handy tool.

We know Doc has a lot of useless and clean out of the box tools, but why would he need to add such a useless thing as a rawhide mallet?

Seems like a good tool but I just couldn't spend that much on a tool that would annoy the crap out of me. If I'm not mistaken they have a stack of washers inside, it obviously works but sure makes a lot of noise.
