Down side some ferrets might think it's a toy and try to dig out the water making huge messes may take a while for everyone to understand it's the water they drink from and not a toy.

I have a few recommendations for your ferret!First,cover the wire that he steps on because he can get bumble foot and it is also really uncomfortable.Try to give your ferret more free roam if you can, 4 hours is the universal minimum (I know that would be hard since you have a ton of animals 😜),so if you can't do that the best things would be to give him his own room or get another ferret so he doesn't get depressed.Water bottles are not good for ferrets,they can chip their teeth and not enough water comes out.I recommend a clip on crock if you are worried about him spilling the water. He is such a cutie!Cinnamon ferrets(I think that is what he is sorry if I got it wrong) have to have some of the cutest coloring ever.Also be careful with the ferret and the rat.Ferrets are obligated carnivores and will (sadly) eat your rat.(For the rat:I recommend to get another rat too 😬rats are very social creatures(just like ferrets) and need a buddy,also the rat cage is extremely small,their cage needs to be about the same size as Ollie's cage) Love your animals!!!!

As an owner of 5 ferrets let me tell you that they need to be the center of attention in your world they are very social and loving pets and need ALOT of outside cage time way more than 2 hours especially if they’re gonna be single ferrets🙄 they should always be in pairs and seeing that you have rats I hope you don’t put them in the same room together because pocket will become prey also you should get a litter box tray I use a large grey one from Walmart really helps with them not pooping in the corners and use pine pellets to cover the bottom of it, it should help with the smell change the water bottle to clip on dishes and you should be good also a tray for the floor of the cage so they don’t hurt themselves(: honestly love ferrets as pets and they’re absolutely amazing 😍 you won’t regret it and probably will have ferret math!

Gonna give you some tips on ferret care: You mentioned you only give him 2 hours out the cage, ferrets need a minimum of atleast 6 hours of of the cage. They are highly intelligent and since he lives alone and doesn’t have a buddy he will need more interaction from people/ play time. Think as him as a dog or cat, you wouldn’t lock a dog/ cat in a cage for hours on end You need to cover the cage bars with something, even if it’s just cardboard for now, it’s very uncomfortable for him to be walking over bars and he’ll end up getting bumblefoot. I noticed you have a water bottle in his cage, get him a clip on bowl that attaches to the cage instead, bottles deprive them from water and ferrets will get dehydrated very quickly. Bottles will also chip their teeth over time since they’re carnivores their mouth/teeth aren’t shaped like rodents. The food it looks like he’s being fed looks like marshal food, which is the worst food you can give him. Ferrets are obligate carnivores and therefore can not digest grain, fruit, veggies, plant matter and overtime will lead to health problems and possibly death. Since ferrets are so prone to health problems their diet is essential, a balanced raw diet is best but it’s something you’ll need to look into. If a raw diet doesn’t suit your lifestyle the other best option for food is Ziwi peak, it’s 100% dried meat, no fillers veggies or fruit or any nasties in it just dried meat. Another option would be freeze dried raw also. Please please do some research on ferrets, their care isn’t as simple as you think. There’s some great youtubers who provide educational videos such as Pazuandfriends, friendly neighbourhood ferrets and ferret world, check them out! Everyone’s a beginner at some point, but you should’ve done basic research on this stuff before getting a ferret same with any animal. If you have any questions please go ahead and ask

Thank you for providing such an informative reply. Makes me wonder if ferrets are as misunderstood as rabbits given how they seem to face some similar struggles (negligible free roam time, insufficient companionship, water bottle instead of water bowl etc.) It sucks that such an overwhelming amount of people do not bother doing research before taking another life on their hands. Cats and dogs aren't the only pets you need to care a lot about.

Hey, I’m coming late to the comments but with the best in mind. Please read the following! 1. You should really cover the wire flooring in the cage to prevent injury. 2. a) Seeing as you’re slightly bothered by the scent, which is completely understandable, I recommend changing his diet. Pellet diets are highly recommended against due to the grain which ferrets are not able to properly digest. Oliver is a true carnivore and should be fed as such. Not to mention, poor diets within ferrets lead to increased risks of developing insulinoma and adrenal disease. 2. b) Furthermore, you can prevent a build up of odour by providing a litter box, and ensuring Oliver uses it. It can also make your life considerably easier. On this topic, he was most likely using the second level to defecate as the bottom layer had too much faeces. 2. c) You can also considerably reduce foul smells by getting him neutered/ spayed, however I am unsure if you have done so already. Speaking from personal experience, it works wonders my friend! 3. Hydration is important for any organism, so providing him with a better water source than the bottle alone will serve Oliver’s health well. Not to mention, if he gets dehydrated, which he clearly is by going to the dog’s water bowl almost immediately after being let out, his poop will be much more firm and possibly painful to push out. Additionally, since he is on a diet that his body isn’t able to properly process, his poop is already firm as it is due to having to get rid of more waste. Lastly, I just want to recommend a fellow Petuber whose channel is called ‘Pazu and friends.’ She is absolutely amazing and has multiple degrees and qualifications in pet nutrition, and has had ferrets for an extensive amount of years. She can really help you to look after Oliver :)
@asatms4 жыл бұрын
I am so glad most of the comments are trying to educate you. Please, PLEASE do right by your ferret. Cover the wires in the cage, give him stainless steel bowls to eat and drink out of (never bottles, ferrets AREN'T rodents), provide a better diet (ferrets are obligate carnivores, and their ideal diet is raw, whole prey), adopt a friend for him and do proper introductions (2 week quarantine + neutral territory meetings), a MINIMUM of 6 hours of daily interactive playtime, and never let him near any prey species. I hope you do better research on your future pets to give them the highest quality lives. ❤️

Blaze or panda ferrets (those with a white stripe on the top of their heads, like badgers, and white bibs; or those with a white head and bib, without a mask) tend to be prone to deafness, and Waardenburg syndrome seems to be genetically linked with the white markings on the face. Waardenburg syndrome can be found in black-eyed whites, and that albinos can be hard of hearing due to the fact that they have abnormally small hearing mechanisms in their middle and inner ears.

@@PrettyDeadThings it's not true at all that 70-85% of ferrets are deaf. I have personally been hands on with over 100 ferrets of different colours and not one has been deaf and I speak to hundreds of ferret owners world wide and I've only ever talked to maybe 50 people with deaf ferrets.

@@PrettyDeadThings This is wildly inaccurate. Pandas, Blazes, Albinos, DEW ferrets often are hearing impaired. However this does not make up "70%-80%". If a ferret is not those patterns it likely can hear exceptionally well.

Just some recommendations for ur ferret! Pls try to cover the floor on the cage because it can cause bumble foot so maybe put a fleece blanket or a hide out! Also , I would recommend giving oliver a water bowl and no pellets. And let him have atleast 4 hour outside cage time

It hurts me seeing him walk in the wire cage you really need trays man also they need atleast 4-5 hours of playtime each day needing your attention I’d do more research on them before you got one. Your rat is not being taken care of well at all. It isn't being given enough enrichments since that is a terrible cage. The cage has no height as there should be hammocks and climbing toys all over the place. Just stick to the animals you know how to care for and be extremely careful when introducing a new rat. Just a tip for everyone: research a ton into the animal before you buy it

I'm sad you downgraded your rat to a smaller cage for the sake of adding another animal to your collection. The new rat cage is too small and doesn't provide enough climbing & enrichment, he (I say he but I saw no testicles, idk if he's neutered) needs to be able to forage and climb; ropes, hammocks and ladders are a great way to add this enrichment - ideally in a taller cage for more climbing activity. Wood based shavings are also not ideal as rats are very sensitive with their respiratory systems. Paper based substrate is much better (i use cardboard squares) as it is less dusty, not to mention super cheap. I'm not going to argue to age of the other rat since I have no way of proving it but it just seems fishy that the rat looked fairly young in the video and has now, several months later, died of old age. Idk. I know you said you are getting the other rat a friend but please do this with urgency, be careful of the sex of the other rat and Please take the time to do proper introductions - you can't always just plop one rat with another and expect them to be best friends. They are intelligent and social, but that also means the social hierarchy is more complex. There's no shame in learning as you go, no one expects you to know everything at once, but the stuff you're lacking with is fairly basic when it comes to rat (and other rodents) care and improvements over time have been little to none. I know most of this stuff has been said in previous videos where it seems the rat was bought on a whim/without enough research being done beforehand, so its a shame to see the standards are actually dropping lol. As others have said you need to be doing more research, these are sensitive animals, not cool new toys to show to all the kids that watch your videos. ((Before any of yall clowners wanna say anything, I've cared for rats for over 18 years, I love them very dearly and what I suggest for care is suggested from years of learning. I just want what is best for them since they're so commonly mistreated.))

They are so cute! Bit one thing u need to fix is to put some type of blanket on the bottom of the cage bc ferrets have very gentle feet, and walking on wire all the time, would eventually give them bumble foot which is very painful, but besides that everything looked fine, he/she is so cute💗
@lonewolfblumoon52844 жыл бұрын
Smh Exactly what I mean, gets animals on a whim and doesn't care to do all the research first. Then the animals suffer for it. Please STOP getting more animals especially without doing PROPER research first. He hasn't even fixed his rats set up yet and he's had them for MONTHS. He doesn't care for people, who actually know better, advice. He shows no care for the actual animals wellbeing. "Live their lives to the fullest here" HA So again PLEASE STOP getting more animals and START bettering the animals life's you already have. If you ask me get rid of everything but the fish, pigs, goats and ducks. Better their lives THEN AND ONLY THEN consider getting a new animals AFTER MONTHS OF RESEARCH on different websites and from different people so you know you're giving them the best if you get them. Even my boyfriend who knows nothing about animals agrees it's obvious your neglecting most if not all of your animals.

When my daughter owned her own home, her father helped her create ferret world. She turned her basement into a ferret rescue. She had hammocks, tubes, toys & litter boxes. They definitely have a musky odor even though they are descented because they are in the skunk family. I forget how many she had at 1 time, but most don't live very long because most are sold as adults & the rescues are usually much older.

Your ferret is so cute! I have two things you can try to improve on (Not to be rude, just as constructive criticism!) First off I recommend a water bowl (or even 2), because water bottles can be hard to drink from and they also can build up bacteria easily. The food they also eat is usually salty so they are gonna need a lot of water! Second thing is try replacing the wire flooring to something that will feel more comfortable on Oliver’s feet, or even just a few layers of towels or fleece! You don’t want to get his foot stuck or hurt between the wires. I hope this helps!

I used to train ferrets they’re great pets!! Make sure the ferret cannot get into the rat cage he will 100% kill it horribly! Fish are also not safe if he can get into the fish tanks he can kill and eat the fish! Get him a ceramic bowl for water that bottle water will not work for him and his feet shouldn’t be straight on metal which you’ve heard from many different people. So change that out too! I’m excited for you though 😆👏🏼🥰
