Pool School

Күн бұрын

Over the last few months I've been busy building a new pool room at the bottom of my gargen to house my pool table. The room is also an office but gives me a nice new space to make new videos for the Pool School channel. I often get asked lots of questions about my pool table and the room size required so I've given some facts in this video about things like that. Here is a summary of the things shown in the video:
Home built office 23x13.5ft
7ft English pool table - Supreme Winner
Hainsworth Precision cloth in Silver
Super Aramith Pro Cup pool balls
Supreme LED table light

With your help I just had my first 3-0 (EDIT 4-0!!!) night winning three (four) games using all the information you gave me. awesome looking room. liking the silver/grey cloths used on tables these days. it really brings out the ball colours, and its alot nicer to look at than the traditional blue or green. also may I suggest adding some sound boards to the walls so it isnt so echoey, and it'll reduce the noise for your neighbours 😁😉

Good to see you back mate. Nice room, I've just had a cabin built for my pool table. Good tips. It's surprising just how much room is required. Love the lines, not so much the music, which in my opinion isn't needed, the drumming especially is annoying. Have you thought about sound proofing the table? I did and it's made a massive difference that everyone comments on. I used vinyl flooring in the pocket runners, upside down carpet in the main body and rubber matting in the collection areas, also vinyl along the sides of the main area and in front of the chutes so the ball doesn't hit there either, can send you photos if you're interested.
@PoolSchool
@PoolSchool 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Sorry you don't like the music, it's not something I always have on (mainly because everyone has different tastes anyway), but this was just because it was more of a "tour" video than a tutorial where I don't tend to use music. Yes I've done some similar things with the inside of my table with capret in the main body and collection area.

Hi mate, been watching your videos for a couple of years now and finally getting a cabin in the garden to get my first table at home in the next few weeks! You used to have a diner table, which I'll need to go for. Could you offer any advice on what to go for/anything to avoid? Are different brands of significantly different quality? Will definitely upgrade cloth and balls from day 1 at least Looking forward to the next video All the best Paddy

I have only had the one dining pool table and that is the only one I've played on as well so I'm afraid I can't really compare any of them. Mine was from Home Leisure Direct and was fairly decent. It was obviously not as sturdy as the Supreme Winner I have now but then that is always going to be the case with the shallower body of the table. I wish I could help more but I'm afraid can't!

Hi, I have the same LED light and was wondering where you got the correct measurements for the distance or was this the best distance for your table? Thanks in advance. Ps, I have the same cloth and find it really does mark badly 😕
@PoolSchool
@PoolSchool Жыл бұрын
I just did a Google search but most pages seemed to be in agreement of around 32-36 inches from the bed of the table. That light is quite bright so you could get away with higher if needed. Unfortunately the finer the cloth the more likely it is to mark. I’d rather have to change my cloth more regularly and have that speed and control rather than have a hard wearing thicker cloth that is slow. Just one of those sacrifices you have to way up unfortunately.

I have a similar set up with a supreme winner also. 2 quick questions: Do you think the pro cup balls are worth it ,even if you already have a set of the Aramith standard balls? Big fan of your videos, love the new pool room. Would you have any interest in designing a poster for different 8 ball rule sets? I would love to buy one for my pool room wall. @PoolSchool

@@PoolSchool Cheers. Maybe multiple posters, like a Top 10 rules to remember for this rule set. Ideal for competent players who just need to know the main quirks and specifics that apply, e.g. where you can break from; how many balls need to hit a cushion on the break; options for first visit after break; options for opponent's first visit; requirement for object ball to hit a cushion or be potted; skill shot; loss of turn shot; where cue ball can be placed after a foul; etc.

Just depends on where you need to hold the cue and your arm span. A lot of people hold the cue too far back (just because it’s a longer cue). You might be ok with a shorter one but would need to make sure you still have the full range of your swing.

I don't really use the cut break, I prefer to hit the lead ball as ful as possible. I tend to find cueing more awkward for the cut break and any slight lift on the cue ball can see it come off the table. That's not to say it doesn't work for other people, it's just a personal choice.
