perhaps a silly question...does a spin on the cue ball impart spin to the object ball?
@PoolSchool4 күн бұрын
It’s a debated subject but the short answer in my opinion is yes. The long answer is far more complex and it depends on many factors. Lots of side spin at slow pace from a short distance will transfer the most spin to the object ball, but it is only a very tiny amount. Quite useful in some instances but barely noticeable most of the time.

Around 3 minutes, that's interesting to me as an American because I played open handed when I first started and then closed after a time. After that I would go back and forth. I dunno why, but I suspected it had to do with me being a lefty- you're always having to come up with creative ways to operate in this right handed world 😋 Cheers mate! 🍻

Just came back here to say that this was the video that made it click for me in terms of getting consistent screw / top. I knew I had to cue through the ball but the tip of accelerating through it was what made the penny drop for me. Dr Dave has a video that proves that acceleration makes no difference and it's only about cue speed at the moment of impact… but for whatever reason it doesn't 'feel' like that - it feels like I get the right action by 'pushing' through the cue ball exactly like you describe here. So thank-you!
@PoolSchool9 күн бұрын
Thank you really appreciate that. You’re absolutely right, it’s more of a “feel” than anything. When you get the feel for the timing, screw back and top spin can become quite effortless.

This video is so short but so important and effective. I've always been focused on potting and then making the most of where ever the cue ball ends up. I have now started learning about positioning. BUT knowing and understanding this is a game changer. My Snooker IQ just spiked up watching this video. Thank you! brilliantly illutstrated and demonstrated

Hi, Whats your feelings on cue length some say shoulder height some say just under the chin ?
@PoolSchool27 күн бұрын
It's more to do with arm length. You could have long arms and short legs, so not necessarily just about your height. With your cue tip touch the cue ball and you elbow at slightly over 90 degrees is about where you want to be holding the cue. You ideally want your cue to then be a little longer than that, so that you have a bit to play with when you need to reach for shots.

Lets assume we are in normal play and in this example I am yellow. A red and a yellow are close together and I attempt to pot my yellow but end up hitting the red and the yellow at the same time. Is this a foul shot?

World rules are terrible how can a deliberate foul ever be allowed, boring and promotes negative pool you do nothing but cover pockets in world rules, my local league is EPA rules but as far as pub rules go over here I prefer blackball rules though I wouldn't complain about playing international. In all honesty them world rules want binning I'm surpised anybody still plays them.
@lukesmith9297Ай бұрын
You missed the middle because you knew you had too much angle and was understandably trying to hold the cue ball to stay high on the bottom red. That should have been taken much earlier from the middle right red instead of taking left middle heading down for the red near 8 ball. Keep your work close and take last ball whichever is nearest to 8 ball. Yes we all have different ways of seeing it but learning your patterns and understanding why we should clear sections instead of going up and down will prove for more successful clearances without being too precise unless absolutely necessary but cut out the risks. As long as your on the correct side to leave a natural angle and use your touch for pace and leave a reasonable shot then it will make it so much easier. Good luck practicing to make improvements.

1:32 - If the player breaking and having potted two yellows then missed the shot on the next yellow, would the opponent be allowed to go for a yellow and be on yellows if potting it?

The main sticking point I have found in pubs is people want to play two shot carry on a foul and even onto the black which I find ridiculous. On place wanted two shot carry & ball in hand

Much appreciated. Just started playing spin for cue ball control and noticed more pocket rattle outs. I thought it was side spin transferred to the the object ball that was causing it to spin out. I'll need to work on getting cue ball position with softer shots especially for sharp angles into the corners.

I'd love to know about drills to help get better at controlling the pace of the white when coming off an object ball at different angles, if that makes sense? I often get poor position because I forgot to take into account that the cut was a bit fuller or finer.

I just used the Whizza and was amazed at the results, I was going to make my own but decided to save time and get one that had the specks well thought out. I put a dab of Aramith ball cleaner on each ball before cleaning them instead of the Clean and Shine which I will try next time.

It is amazing how strongly you can remember playing pool, even though it was really long ago; the last time I played pool was literally in school when I was 15 years old, and that was back in 2001, and it still feels like I played it just a few days ago.

THis is a great piece of advice using the chest as a guide. Im 6'3" and i struggle to get my chin on the cue. What can you suggest to help me get my chin on the cue
@PoolSchool2 ай бұрын
Thanks. Getting your chin on the cue is not essential, especially if it is uncomfortable. To help achieve it as a taller player then you either need to bend the legs a little more (it’s very difficult to do with the straight leg snooker stance if your tall), or work on your flexibility. A lot of pool and snooker players don’t really think about the sport as something you need to be fit and flexible for, but it can really help with being able to have a comfortable and stable stance.

Useful set of videos, im new to pool in England, got to grips with World rules, nearly there with blackball, but im on holiday in Morocco for 6 weeks and they play international rules. Luckily I've been watching lots of Ultimate pool matches, so i have a decent idea about the rules. Thanks for the videos AND for answering all the questions too. God bless.
