In order to classify the niece as a peeping tom, she would have to be getting sexual gratification out of seeing her and taking the picture, which is hard to prove unless they caught her in the act (so to say). It’s not really worth keeping people like this in your life tbh, they don’t respect you, they don’t care about your comfort, don’t treat you with basic humanity, and seem to think being a peeping Tom is totally okay?!?!? Let’s put it into extra perspective for you: she took the photo through a window, the curtains were closed, she invaded your privacy. That’s 100% a peeping Tom. That’s not name calling, that’s what she’s doing, and your sister is trying to harass you into backing down. No offence to your religion, but it’s not actually the important factor here. It’s important to you, yes, but it’s not the important factor, your niece was still a peeping Tom posting an intimate photo of you (even tho you’re not showing anything) WITHOUT CONSENT. That’s the important part here, the peeping and uploading photos without consent. Also your sisters “law friend” has no doubt been misrepresented the facts. And yes Facebook are useless when reporting anything, I’ve tried recovering my account for over a year and it’s been useless, Facebook doesn’t have any administration to contact, I’ve even sent identification forms as per Facebook request and still never received help and still can’t gain access to the account. So Facebook are completely useless, so reporting will sadly not do anything. If you’re so adverse to police action, then blast them on social media with all available proof you have. S1: Here’s what you do: 1) File a police report against Peeping Tina. 2) Report the photo to Facebook and they can have it taken down. I’ve had pictures of me/my kids taken down when relatives post without permission. It’s not the same situation, but I reported another page that was, well, a gofundme for a rapist’s legal fees. They were unhelpful and as that one comment said, basically told me not to look. I threatened to take it to the news, and miraculously, the page was taken down! You might have to fight dirty, and I’m not sure how to do that with personal photos. Maybe add a note in about the hijab and your religion? 3) If you’re feeling extra petty and like throwing more fuel on the fire, you might make your own Facebook post about how you were shocked and saddened to see a private picture of you getting dressed, in a private room, was taken through the gap in the curtains and posted without your consent. Say you would never have thought niece was a peeping Tom, and are sad that she both refused your right to privacy and your request to take it down, and then tag your niece. When your sister comes to blow up at you, remind her that, just as she said niece has the right to post what she wants on her personal social media, so do you. ETA: They are wrong or lying. It does not matter if you were in their home and the “landowner gave permission;” they do not own YOU. The photo isn’t of the property, it is of you and as a human, you have your own rights to privacy. If what they say is true, you could put a camera in your bathroom, take videos of people undressing, and post the videos because “they belong to you and were taken in your home.” They are bullshitting you in an attempt to get you to stop. The sister and niece do not love OP, they have no respect for her, they dont deserve respect or a relationship with OP. She needs to go to the police and, indeed, take it up with a judge. Hell, it could theoretically be spun into being revenge porn, because they did not actually post it with good intentions (otherwise, theyd take it down when asked; they posted it specifically to hurt OP).

Inheritance: I was concerned that OP's GF was only with them for the long con of the Inheritance but I'm pleasantly surprised to find she doesn't also have her hand out. I think a sit down conversation with GF's side of things in which OP explains that his money is not their money and that there will not be any handouts is in order. There will be fallout but, honestly, who cares? These aren't great people in the first place, so is it really such a great loss for them to rage quit when OP doesn't give them a free ride?

If the sister's friend is in fact studying law, they're full of shit. That standard is a pseudo public places standard, ie. A business owner gives a person permission to record on their property, you still can't record in the bathroom though. When it comes to private property, simply because the niece had the ability to take pictures, does not mean she can take pictures of anyone and everyone WITHIN the residence. You can't just walk in on your brother when his door is shut and take a picture of him, you CAN'T take a picture through a window either. Wherever an individual person is, if they create a screen of privacy, you cannot record or take pictures of them. This changes slightly when it comes to surveillance cameras within a house.

Get a pic of sis and niece with funny faces-like they're stuffing food in their mouth or making other weird faces and post it. When they ask you to remove it-remind them that nothing illegal is going on and make some bs excuse like "This is art"... Blackmail them into taking down your pic. Stay true to your word. Sometimes people just don't understand until they're the victim... Also, I'd ask a lawyer. The niece could be lying about the friend. Also, students don't know all the ins and outs of laws even if she wasn't.

Story 1 IF in the US posting a photo of someone without their knowledge or consent on any public forum is illegal....Facebook is a public forum and the last time I had to tell them I"d files suit for damages unless was removed. I'd call sister up and tell her that you have consulted legal council and will be filing a cease and desist against both of them as well as a civil suit for damages unless it is taken down and deleted immediately.

my grandma died and my mum got an inheritance and has openly shared with me, she uses it like 'our' money (i dont ask or expect her to but she knows there are things that will make my/our life easier like my new wheelchair) but shes also using it to have some sensible fun in one of our hobbies. i havent told my dad and half sister how much it was (not a big amount) despite theyre "subtle" (not) queries, but also theyre prompting of 'oh woe is us we have no money but this thing would be sooo good' only a few people actually know how much and how were spending it, a close friend is an accountant and good with money (unlike my dad) and has given us some good ideas on how to make the most of it while still getting to use it

I am so confused by the aunt and neice. If I took a picture of anyone and posted it for them to then come to me later and say they weren't comfortable with it, I would feel bad that I made them uncomfortable and remove it. How is that not the default reaction, especially for someone you supposedly care about? OPs religion shouldn't have anything to do with it, but, unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a factor here.

The great thing about problems around having too much money is that you can always donate it to charity, problem solved. Even if it's tied up in a business, push to turn it into a cooperative. There are so many ways to solve this while doing a lot of good.

call a family meeting, have everyone on the same meeting. And you tell the family no one is allowed to ask about your money question your money or ask for money for the rest of your lives because it's none of their business. And if at any point you or her feel like you being generous that is your decision but if anyone pushes the subject of money they will be forfeiting their opportunity to ever receive money and if they're persistent and nasty with it they'll be put on no contact

Story 2: OP needs to get in touch with a financial advisor and if he wants to keep a relationship with his GF, he needs to acknowledge that he'll have to set up a family trust to help his future wife's family. But make sure there is a cap to how much each of them can withdraw and for what needs. Be it a medical, educational, emergency reason or if they wis to enjoy a little windfall themselves. Don't ever let your family and friends bleed you dry. But do "spread the wealth" in order to help the people close to you help themselves.

In the us it is absolutely legal to take a photo of anything you can witness from a public location. Google the Supreme Court ruling. You have no expectation of privacy when visible from from a public location. It's on you to take measures for privacy.

As for the guy with the $$$. Set up a trust for her family to be used in emergencies. Set the parameters to medical and educational debts. Let them apply through the trust for money and have the manager deal with it. You can’t take it with you, so you might as well toss 100k into a pile and let them apply for it. That way they can’t call you stingey and will still only get money for good reasons- and not bother you constantly for it.

Story 1: OP seems hesitant about this whole thing 'cos they're family (and whatever), so i'll ran with this argument: if the niece can take a peeping tom's photo of her, she will and can do the same to any other muslim women . It's honestly islamophobic. If she doesn't want to take it to court only based on her own violation, then I hope she realized she SHOULD be taking it to court to prevent any other muslim being a victim to her sister's and niece's islamophobia acts: this is a 'nobler' reason. otherwise I hope she grew a spine and take it to court. She can figure out it might need cease-and-desist letter, so she should do it. Hopefully she can grew an extra spine on top of it and explain to everyone who had shown that photo on the whole situation.

I think OP was right to not include the religious angle. You’re not more entitled to privacy based on religion. Everyone has a right to privacy regardless of religion. This was such a violating and they’re both disgusting people. She’s literally the definition of a peeping Tom. Peeping through a window and taking a photo is the textbook definition.
@chuckles7070 Жыл бұрын
I mean it adds another layer of context for OP's POV and clarifies why she was so upset by the photo and the niece's actions. More context is always good imo

Who wold tell that the owner of the place owns the photo? Like, if I went to Disney for a professional photoshoot Disney would own my pictures? Why? I always thought that the question of ownership of the image was between the artist (photografer) and the model that owns the rights to the image. Imagine if Disney owned the rights to every photo taken inside the Parks? If you think they are ruthless about songs and mercandize, what would you think they would do to contless photos taken in their property dayly? What about Airbnb? Putting cameras up to see guests would end up that busyness. What about creeper renters? Hotel owners would put pornHub to shame...
@axepagode33626 Жыл бұрын
Call the cops and ask them to speak to her. Your sister and niece will get the message. She took the picture through a window to see you inside your dwelling. That is peeping Tom behavior. Your sister should have sided with your immediately.
