Mine's been on the shelf for several years. I got the itch again recently and got it whipped back into shape. Sure is a fun unit when it's going right but man is it a pain in the dyngus to work on. I was wondering if this platform was still relevant so I Googled it and found your videos. I share your frustration. I think I'll play with mine long enough to finish off this gallon of fuel then I'll just pickle the engine and put it back on the Shelf probably never to be run again. I'll probably get an xmaxx to replace it unless something else comes along to change my mind.

Tmaxx was way more reliable in my opinion. Easier to work on,, beef up, and keep running on a way smaller budget. Not as big and Powerful but I didn't have to replace gears and drivelines/shafts nearly as often. Plus the 8 oil filled shocks were just awesome for bashing
@toyota2189212 жыл бұрын
@@theshapeexists I had a tmaxx way back but standard the plastics were to weak so I never upgraded it to see if it was tough enough but still it's all about the love of rc👍
@theshapeexists2 жыл бұрын
@@toyota218921 yea, traxxas plastic ain't very tough. I changed out my a arms with rpm all the way around the truck 20 years ago. Also needed stronger servos and mounts. Some longer hardware on top of that and mine was tough as nails. Still have THE ORIGINAL pro 15 engine. I heard they were garbage when I bought the truck so after I had my fun I bought a .17 sirio and tried to blow up the pro15. I COULDN'T. I over revved that thing so much and ran it on 35% nitro and it just kept going. Its still in the truck now. Its not as powerful as my sirio , but way more reliable. Now I feel bad about how I beat it up but it still runs 23 years later. Granted it sat for about 10 years with zero care and maintenance, which tells you how tough it is.

Bypass the battery meter on the glowstarter... i have a couple of those glowstarters and found you get a much stronger glow on the plug and starts the engines easier/quicker if you bypass the meter in the end ... solder a small piece of wire onto the neutral spring then trap the other end between the treads of the screw on end cap...

just to comment on the HPI Salvage brake screws always loosening problem. Use bolts instead of screws, if you use a hex key style you can cut off a hex key just past the 90 bend and fit it in or use conventional bolts and just grind down a box end wrench to just around 3-5mm thick and it will slide right in for easy adjustments

always remove fuel from tank if stored for more than two days. ALWAYS USE AFTER RUN OIL OR WD40 AS AFTER RUN OIL. You will never have another problem with nitro if you do this religiously. I do this and i have been able to start my nitros after one year storage on first try.

I know this is an old video but for anyone struggling getting wires routed thru tight spots, tape the wire to the end of a cut cable tie/tie wrap. Then run the end of the tie wrap thru where you need it and grab the end of it with some needle nose and pull thru. Then continue until you are done. Cheers

If i remember correctly you don't have to pull apart the TVP chassis to get to the gearbox. Starting with the Savage X you can just unbolt the side screws on the transmission and slide it out of the chassis plates *edit I lied. I was thinking about how the top half of the case comes out easily.

If you are passionate about keeping it and making it run, but willing to get a new engine, maybe cram a gasoline one in there (the ones for RC cars). Gasoline probably won’t clog up the thing like Nitro or alcohol will. Idk

How come you have put the twin stainless disc's on? When I had those fiber one's, it didn't take long for them to crack when you went over something. So I've used the stainless and they work a treat. Btw you can get to that other break screw. You just need a long thin screwdriver and make sure you ALWAYS stick some super glue in the hole that on the thread's. Since I started to do that, I've never had them back out. Same goes with any other screw that's going into plastic, if you don't want it to come out. Then stick some super glue in & on the thread's to stop it backing out. Using lock tight just makes things worse btw. Don't ask me how I know
