I just joined the notion from scratch community and have learned so much about notion in just the few videos I have watched. I was so excited by the idea of finding a way to get my life organized that I couldn’t wait for the next build from scratch video that I had to go and purchase your A complete notion 2.0, and I am so glad that I did. I’m still watching videos to learn how best to use your template so I can tie everything together but I have already begun to organize my life and become more productive. I’ve said it a few times already, but thank you once more for not only creating videos on how to make these systems ourselves, but for making the ready to use templates and having a comprehensive walk through and videos on how to use them!

Yesterday, I purchased the Pro version of Notion. I think the free version offers incredible functionality, but the pro version allows larger file size uploads, which is what my workflow requires. I feel that the cost is fair (under $50US) for that expanded ability. I also invested in this 2.0 System from Simon. WOW! What an amazingly useful timesaver! I do still need to watch tutorials and read the guides in order to teach myself how to fully implement all the things that Notion and Simon’s system can do for my life, but I don’t need to reinvent the wheel! YAY! I am beyond impressed with what I’ve seen so far, and am feeling ecstatic about how much more progress I will make this year. Thanks so much for sharing your work, Simon! This template you’ve created is truly something that is changing my trajectory for the better. I am deeply appreciative!

I have to say Simon, you indeed are one of the Better Creators out there. I recently saw one of my favorite creators kinda sell out to the point where I can not trust impartial opinions from him (wont name names) and like web stuff productivity does have this problem with people just pitching the products for sponsorship they do not declare or affiliate.. Being a reviewer and discovery person in the gaming sector myself I see this there too. But your stuff I trust very much and your taste is exquisite. Please never sell out! Make money of course...

So I'm trying to give this 2nd brain idea a try. But every such video I watch make it seem so complicated. Lots of clicks, drop downs, areas to check, go here and then there and here again...It's almost turning me off of the idea. Also, for some things (daily habits/tasks/fitness) wouldn't a pre-made app be much easier? I mean how often do you really need to archive (for quite some time down the road) your daily tasks or how much weight you lifted 5 months ago? Even for notes, notion doesn't allow Apple Pencil to draw/write. I guess for written notes and journal and storing web clippings it makes sense, but why the need to keep everything in 1 app and not spread out amongst pre-made easy to use apps? I'm wondering what all the fuss is about genuinely. @better creating I'm not dissing your template, it looks like you put a lot of thought and time into it, I'm just confused by the need
@thomaspeintinger34302 жыл бұрын
I feel you, Jacob! I love to be productive, especially if there are tools out there which help me with that. I also like to work on my iPad and the thought to use notion (because somehow averybody does that) always attracts me. But.somehow every video I watch confused me to a point, where I don't see the reason of investing a lot of time in a project management tool, which complicates things in the short term. I now use ticktick as a task manager and I really enjoy and love it. I have lists for different clients, I have an intelligent widget on my home screen, which only displays my private tasks which are due today. I can drag and drop tasks into a calendar view and plan my work day. I can really recommend that app. It can also communicate with Google calendar or can sync with Google tasks. Habit tracker is also part of it. It's quite powerfull, quite minimalistic and easy to work with.

I would absolutely love it if you could do a separate example video where you do a couple different scenarios for kicking this thing off properly. Thanks for this, Simon. I bought your template and am really excited about using it. I'm trying to get my head around the different databases, and I have a question about the Knowledge Bank / Second Brain bit. Am I right in thinking that the "Knowledge Bank" is the dashboard, and the "Second Brain" is the database that powers this? I'm finding it hard to get my head around putting Media (books, videos, podcasts, articles etc) together with notes. I'd love to know your reasons for putting those two things in the same database? What would I lose if I separated these into a knowledge database (synched with Readwise) and a notes database. And finally, do you ever store media that you consume for entertainment? I am thinking of adding a second category to the database to tag either for "knowledge" or "entertainment". Then I can add films or TV programmes we've watched (I always forget these). Interested in your thoughts on this one? Thanks!
@BetterCreating2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, yep - would totally be fine to separate them if you wanted to. I simply made them the same database so you could search everything in one place by tags or titles: nice way to find related content all on the same place. This said - it would equally be good to recreate the notes section as it’s own database - particularly with new database options this year. Re tagging Knowledge and entertainment etc: all down to the user: I’m sure my approach and titles won’t be perfect for everyone: change to what works best for you. I don’t have a need to capture entertainment: I just input stuff that may have value in my work later. Thanks again :)

I'm a bit confused about the page structure/hierarchy of your system. I've got your Complete Notion template. But how did you create the main "A Complete Notion:" page/dashboard with all the sub-pages - and not have all the sub-pages listed on the main dashboard? When I create a top-level page and then put databases or subpages inside, it adds all those pages to the parent page? I must be missing something really vital about the way Notion organises things. I just don't know how to create a dashboard as a top level page and put all the databases or pages inside and not have them all listed in the dashboard. Does that make sense?
@BetterCreating2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, I structured the template by creating all the main pages inside the dropdown menu column at the top of the hope screen. Click on the 🔑 to view them. That means they all sit within the Homepage but are hidden. Then, the main dashboard views of these databases, are created using the /create linked database function: a view of the original that you can filter an organise independently. Hope that helps! Thanks, Simon
@ianandersongray2 жыл бұрын
@@BetterCreating ah, that makes sense! I've watched so many YT videos on Notion and no one explained that. Thanks! I'm probably a structural nerd, but I want to structure my dashboards and databases within different pages "databases", "dashboards" etc.

Looks great! One question though. In your "Logged so far" and "Progress" formulas. Let's say you finish the goal of this year and want to set a new one next year. How does your system handle this without messing up the formulas? I'm thinking "Logged so far" is also going to show the previous years logs, isn't it? Keep up the great work! Enjoying these videos!
@BetterCreating2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. Yes you are right - it wouldn’t carry across a year. That’s why I tag them a specific year from each goal. My system works by starting a new version of each practice each year. If you wanted you could potentially do a roll up calculation to keep a record of multiple years of the same practice I expect. But I don’t feel it’s worth it. I like keeping a record just for the year and starting fresh. Hope that answers your questions. :)

Hi Simon, I’ve downloaded Notion and am feasting on tutorials such as yours at the moment, before I really dive in deeply myself. Of those I’ve seen, yours appears to be the most complete - and straightforward - at least for the way my brain works. If you could, please show how to make a “roll up calculation” to track multiple years of a practice like you’ve just mentioned. Wait. Scratch that. I’ve suddenly just remembered hearing you say on a different video, that a PRACTICE is something you’re working on - something you’re trying to integrate into your life, over time, until it becomes a HABIT, correct? If that’s the case, how and where can one track HABITS year over year, if that’s a possibility? Like you, I’ve had a stack of journals for awhile, and I do sometimes look back at them for review - and encouragement when I feel like I’m not truly progressing - but if I could input that data into Notion and have a way to click quickly to see the progress of something I’ve worked had at for years, I think that would be neat. I appreciate your channel quite a lot. Keep up the great work! Cheers!

One thing I noticed that is absent that I often have on my task lists is a completed tasks section. I noticed that there's no checkbox option on your task template and it seems they just get deleted. Is this intentional? If so, how would you recommend working this out if you like to see when you completed tasks?
@BetterCreating2 жыл бұрын
Ah thanks Brent! There is a completed tasks bin in the main menu. If you want that view in projects: just add a linked database view to the project template page and filter it where done is checked and by the template project relation. That should do the trick! Hey Simon, I love your enthusiasm and teaching style. I got your OS 2 and am really confused by the practices section. The video tutorials are outdated and apply to last years version. It is impossible to work out how to log practices as complete for the day. Im sure there is a simple solution but for the life of me I cant work it out. Ive looked at the built in instructions- they refer back to the outdated video tutorial. Please please add a response for those fans who really want to use your system but cant get past the changes. I want to log practices as complete.
@BetterCreating2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom - thanks for the message - i’m sorry this wasn’t clear - I’ve explained the details in the new tour videos this year and in the guides in the template, but will look to make this clearer. 👍 You now log practices by adding them as a relation to a daily log page. So each day - create a new daily log entry and just link any practices or fitness tracker exercises in the relation field for practices or exercises. If you would prefer to just log things purely in the practices database like last year’s version - you need to change the ‘logged’ column from a roll-up back to a number column where you just update the number. That will be why you can’t log them I think - because you are trying to edit a rollup. That should solve it! Thanks

@BetterCreating2 жыл бұрын
It is certainly a choice people have to make for themselves and it is an area I feel Notion HQ can work on for clearer and stronger security. Personally I offer all my template to people as something to inspire and rework / use as they want: we all have to make our own choice with this question. For me - I’m happy putting my work and ideas on it - I don’t personally use it to store my financial information or overly sensitive data. I’ve taken the calculated risk to use Notion for its amazing usability - I recognise there is a risk in investing your work into a more closed system like this if you want to migrate later. Good luck! :)

Hi, great video. I am very tempted to purchase but does your template link directly with readwise as I currently have the readwise integration setup for my media vault? Or is there a database setup within the template that will work with the readwise automation?
@BetterCreating2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alistair - I would suggest your best approach is to integrate your existing media vault that is already set up perhaps? You can study all the relations and database templates across the system and replace them with yours maybe. Or - you can set up the new one with readwise fresh - either way you need to go through process of replacing and connecting existing one with the readwise one you make. You are right - I can’t just make a template where your readwise is already linked!! :) All the best and hope that answers tut questions. Ultimately - you will need to make sure you make your Readwise knowledge vault etc integrate with the rest of my template - but the existing one is a good guide. :) very best, Simon

I just bought your A Production Notion Life OS: 2.0 (not the creator pack) and under the Knowledge Bank, when I try to send my test book to the Readwise Database, it comes in just under the database and the page is empty. If I move it into the database, all the information such as author, etc. is gone. I changed the relation to text as you suggested, but I'm doing something wrong somewhere. Would you make (or have you already made, by chance) a video showing how to do this correctly? I'd be forever grateful! Thanks for all that you do!
@BetterCreating Жыл бұрын
Hi Kelly, Thanks for downloading - yes - There is a fair bit more involved that you will have to do to set up the connection and integration with Readwise into the system if you wish to add this feature. I take about it in this video and there is also a guide toggle in the knowledge bank dashboard talking through the details. Warning is: be aware it involves merging databases and unlinking and re linking relations to the rest of the system that will require some Notion proficiency. :) hope that helps! This is the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4LGl3d7fLWrers

Ps. Looks like you are following these instructions - not sure if the vid will fully cover it- but make sure you change everything back on the relations once it’s all merged and maybe the issue is that you will need to change the source of the linked database view in the knowledge dashboard to the new readwise database - good luck!

Simon just today the index at the top of the page with the icons to navigate from disappeared form my page. I looked at my back up copy and it has disappeared from there as well and I downloaded another copy to my backup area and it disappeared from that copy as well after a short time. Do you have any idea what I have done to make this happen to all of my copies? I assume it has something to do with syncing but I would not have thought it would occur with my backup copies as well. Also how can I get them back into the page? Thank you.
@BetterCreating2 жыл бұрын
Hi David, ah yes - that’s a shame! You are right - it’s a synced block - so you will have accidentally somehow deleted all instances of it. You’ll Have to make a new one yourself and drop it in. A. Create a /synced block. B. Put a /h2 heading in it. C. Type out the emojis with the | between then. I put two spaces either side of each emoji: look at the images on Gumroad if you need a reference. Drag over an emoji to select it and click the ‘Link’ option. Search for the DASHBOARD pages of your live OS system clacking the breadcrumbs below it show it’s the correct template workspace and link it to the page. I also added a /divider below the emojis within the synced block. D .once you’ve made it click the synced block and click the copy and sync button top right. E. Navigate to each dashboard page and paste (command V on Mac) the menu where you need it. Cheers!

I think I have finally found the culprit. At some time in the past I added software called Notion Enhancer to add some fonts and different color schemes to my notion dashboard. It had worked well and looked good with this software in place. After I started having issues I turned it off but left it installed. When I continued having issue I completely removed it from my computer. I was able to rebuild my index and so far it is staying as it should be.

Hi Simon! I’ve been one and a half week with this system. I’m trying to translate some tittles to my native language (spanish) so I can’t minimize the friction for the daily use. I also revisited the GTD system. But still… I don’t think I’m getting into the system flow in it’s totallity. I mean, probably I need to sit down for a lot of hours until I get everything, and also probably in a desktop computer (I’m traveling with my ipad and iphone since I got the template, never tried on desktop) - I think I’m starting to generate some friction to input tasks and I still don’t get the daily log function, and the relation properties. Maybe I’m too new in Notion (2 months using it) Do you have any advice for me? Probably I already answered myself in this text: I just need to break the friction and just use the system. / I already watched a lot of your videos (great work, btw!), but I got a little dizzy.. is there any order in the videos for learning the system step by step for dummies? haha, thanks Simon!
@BetterCreating2 жыл бұрын
Ah thanks for the message - yeah - sounds right to me. I suggest you go further with looking at it on the desktop as this can definitely help. It sounds like, as you are newer to Notion - you need a little help in understanding how the relations and roll ups work to best connect things in my template like the daily log, tasks to projects and easily using the weekly review. I’d also recommend watching my super early video where I built the task and project manager think it’s called - “how to manage your time better - build this productivity system with me’: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqHHdWmmeK2me7c and my tasks and projects video from a few months back: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZ3Fo4Cwh9Ggjas - thess should help a bit. You use the daily log by creating a new day and then linking exercises, practices and journal entries to that page in their relation columns. I.e. you set up workout options and then simply select them / same with practices you have set up. This will then automatically track the instances you have added them as a relation and keep a log / stats. Hope this helps a bit - I’m aiming to do a new video soon on the daily log. :) thanks again for downloading! If you are really needing more help - I will be offering some solo and group online consultancy sessions soon :)

I like my organisation as simple and straightforward as possible. But this sounds like an impossible to use steam engine. It looks like a shit ton of knowledge on how to use this particular tool is needed. I was going to buy at first and wanted some explanations, but this video actually made me back up. Thought I'd be honest, I'd surprised to be the only one feeling like this. I would have much more appreciated if you presented one or two of the pages in details, clearly, not THAT fast and then let us discover the rest in a separate longer video. Here it feels like you tried to fit everything in 20 minutes but what you've done is huge and I'm pretty sure it's impossible, you're gonna need an hour anyway if you want to present something comprehensive. I'm always looking forward tools to improve my productivity and I'll keep updated on your channel and works but please, explain to a 4 year old, at least you know you won't loose anyone nor potential customers in the process.

Wanted to love this update, but it’s pretty rough. With so much screen real-estate dedicated to getting information IN, there’s hardly any focus on getting it back OUT. My todo list is massive and I can’t see any of it without several clicks, expands, sorts, and filters. This new system entirely breaks my flow.
@BetterCreating2 жыл бұрын
Fair enough: certainly you should adapt it to your workflow - everyone is different and this has been the adjustments that most helped me personally. I will say thou - 80% of my ‘Out’ in this system happens through project pages with the linked database views, the creator dashboard, client manager etc: all stuff for video 2. I previously had a priority, day, week and month view of the todo list and this worked for many - but I found it too messy across devices. It’s an easy adjustment thou which is good. I’d also completely disagree that screen real estate is dedicated mostly to in - its 6 blocks - it’s just that the rest of it has been put in toggles to keep it clean on mobile when needed. I keep all toggles expanded mostly on desktop. Thanks for the feedback - will certainly look at making the action section more accessible for people again.
