This is why everyone has to read their lyrics. It is so important to know what they want to say to us, how much we mean to each other. Their message through music is literally the biggest reason why we love them so much. I won't see you as an Army but as a casual fan if you don't make the effort to read the lyrics.

i have a funny story tho jsjsas the first time i've ever heard a bts song was in 2017 when they performed at the AMAs and i liked the song but not that much to listen to it i guess, i started to see them on twitter A LOT, but it was during quarentine when everything started for real for me, i watched the carpool karaoke bc i was bored and literally i spent like HOURS AND HOURS watching their videos, the crack videos and everything and just falling in love with their concepts and how different they are from every other group. even my boyfriend get in to the black hole with me hahhaha he never liked them bc he says that they are really commercial and everything, and now you see him OBSESSED with their songs, dance practice videos etc etc. his favorite is hoseok and tae hahahaha, he said that what he likes about bangtan it's that their music is so different from every album and their personalities are just hilarious. as jhope says: BTS WAS THE BEST DECISION EVER

Almost same story, ARMY sis! Got familiar w/ them back in 2017 through my nieces. I got to like their songs but was never a big fan (tho I always defend them from people I know that are haters -- cause seriously, to each their own, but to exert effort to say negative things about them when really, they are talented 🤷‍♀) Fast forward -- now I'm an ARMY 💜

I just met BTS by coincidence actually😂 I was just scrolling through my KZbin and came across their Fake Love mv and of course as a curious 14 year old kid I was back then, I watched the MV then another mv appeared on my timeline and I was like: "Ok, I'll watch this one last time then I'll stop." it was then i realized that I have watched bts mv after mv and almost watched all of it😂 and after that, they caught my interest and I started listening to their songs without actually knowing about their MASSIVE popularity at that time. I actually just treated BTS like an entertainment back then like you know, just watching them when I'm bored, doesn't really care about what's going on in their life and stuffs but when I started digging deeper into the fandom, I fell into the pit of being a hard core army and they literally became my life since then😂 and now, I can't believe I'm crying over Tae being bitten by a mosquito😂

Omg same! I was 14 when I found them and by seeing their Fake love MV pop up on my recommended, I was like Ooh looks intriguing and before I knew it I was replaying it and just being AMAZED cause I never saw anything like that before and then fell into the bts hole and started searching their names

Loved the honesty, introspection, and EDITING of this. I didn't get upset at any of the points because lowkey I was just a casual fan for years. But as a Korean American who has been following Korean entertainment and media since the late 90s, BTS stood out to me from their early days. I got to see them as one of the opening acts at KCON LA (2014?), had no idea who they were prior to that. And I was SO IMPRESSED by their stage presence, charisma, choreography, the overall music production quality, etc. I remember making a mental note that they'll get big (couldn't predict THIS level though). Compared to the literally dozens of Kpop groups and solo singers I've seen over the last 10+ years, they left one of the strongest impressions on me, a formerly elitist snob when it came to pop or mainstream music. By 2014, I was already mid/late 20s and not so into Kpop or any fandom (used to be into 2nd gen idols like TVXQ, Big Bang, etc.) so I didn't really keep up with them much except for the odd song or video here and there. I only started digging in deeper over the last couple months and WOW, just wow. Even their earliest songs had very deep, socially-conscious, often poignant lyrics. I was super impressed they released songs criticizing things like the Korean education system, the wealthy elite, etc. And they brilliantly packaged the songs to make them catchy and make tough subjects very palatable to a general audience. I wish all ARMYs could understand Korean language, history, and culture because you can't absolutely *fully* appreciate every nuance and layer of meaning in their works without the cultural and historical contents. Plus some of the lyrics they write are just pure poetry. I have a background in media production, took film analysis courses (multiple), took art history courses, did theater classes from grades 8-11 - art is a passionate subject of mine. And I swear you can do an entire college course in the symbolism and concepts from BTS videos and songs, no joke. I regularly watch reaction and analysis videos involving Korean professors, industry professionals, pro dancers, filmmakers, and even Classicists and historians who break down the elements of BTS MVs, songs, lyrics, choreo, etc. I've truly never seen a group of this level with so, so, so much depth and content.

Thank you for sharing. I had a pretty similar story. Eversince I was in elementary, I was already fond of watching kdramas but I never really got into kpop until 2008, my first year in college. I was a BIG fan of DBSK but I did support other groups so I guess I was also a multi until DBSK split up in 2010. That was when I left kpop altogether because I was so heartbroken. Years later, a friend of mine showed me dance practice videos (BTS & EXO). I didn't know anything about kpop at that time but I developed this prejudice against the new gen of kpop (3rd gen) because they're more into showy dance moves so in my mind, the new gen is "less talent, more visuals (entertainment for the eyes only)". I know, such immature thinking. Anyway, because of that prejudice, I MISSED THE CHANCE TO SUPPORT BTS IN THEIR ROOKIE DAYS!!! Fast forward to 2015, I was addicted to reaction videos on KZbin and came across Dope. That was the first BTS song I liked since I was into EDM/House at that time. I think I watched all Dope Reaction videos day and night but I was more a fan of reaction videos than BTS at that time. I still didn't know them. I just knew Dope. 2017, I had a mutual on Twitter who is constantly tweeting about respecting the 2nd Gen groups (BB) and at the same time, it's 2017, how can you miss BTS on Twitter at that time? They were nominated on BBMAs so that's when my curiosity started. I followed their journey in the US closely. I watched their AMA performance that made me feel proud as an Asian; I watched their interviews in the US; I witnessed their first BBMA award, etc. But I still considered myself a casual viewer even if I already followed them on Twitter and followed several ARMYs too. The thing is, I didn't like their music except for Dope, Fire, Not Today, and WAB Pt2. I haven't read their lyrics yet and just like you, there were times, I found them cringey too (please understand that BTS broke through all these prejudices I had before). I officially fell in love with BTS after watching xCeleste's "From Nobodies to Legends". I fell in love with their story, with their passion, with their determination. From that, I also found out about their artistry, their lyricism and message. That's when I really started listening to their music. On Twitter, ARMYs would make threads discussing BTS' lyrics and I would read them all. I was so fascinated with their music and themes but I didn't have the guts to call myself an ARMY (because I felt like I am not worthy of the title yet) until I have seen their shows such as Run BTS, Bon Voyage, VLives, Docuseries, etc. My first official comeback was Love Yourself: Tear. And my gosh, did that album spoke to me. I needed those words at that time and they really comforted me. I fell into the rabbit hole and I'm still falling hard until now. This is the reason why the bond between ARMYs and BTS is so strong. This is the reason why we keep saying there will never be another BTS, try as others may to replicate their success. It's the incredibly genuine and unapologetically sincere music that BTS creates which is rooted on who they are as individuals and as a group. They are well-loved and successful because they are BTS.

I used to have this misconception too back in 2018 and that time i feel like every kpop idol is manufactured until i came across one vid. It was a fanmade video and they used the song "Human" by Christina Perri and I was shooked at first. I never knew they had this hardships and i started to learn more about them and eventually became a fan. Some of my friends were Army that time and i remember kept on asking them questions. After i watvhed their hardships video i eventually found their music and dive into it. "Butterfly" hit me so hard it became the song that made an Army. Looking back i could say its the best decision of my life. Remind me of this comment in the upcoming years plsss ;)

I know it's dumb and weird.. and very hard to explain but the reason why I will never become a blink is that 1/2 of them aren't Korean.. and 3/4 of them has western influence growing up.. I just can't see the humbleness and sincerity that I see in BTS in BP. I always say. BTS choreography and visuals made me look. Their music and Lyrics made me stay. And their personality made me loyal.

you'll never become a blink bcuz 3/4 of the members had western influence? I'm sorry but that's really stupid. so what if lisa is thai, rosé is Australian nd jeni's nz? they're proud of their nationality and sk adores them. and bp are really humble and down-to the earth if I tell you. it's just that their company wants an 'elusive' image for them and that's why they portray bp as 'rich mean girls'.

Same. I knew of BTS right from the start coz my sister is an ARMY right fron the beginning. I was into Super Junior and Exo then and I stopped stanning kpop groups after I watched a youtube video about how idols are being treated. It's just all business and the idols are the ones who suffer in the end. I did use BTS and Blackpinks music videos in my class but I was not a fan. Although I enjoyed some of their music since my sister played them a lot, I did not make any effort to search what the songs mean. I was into Linkin Park, Evanescence, Breaking Benjamin, My Chemical Romance. And as I grew older I stopped listening to pop music and just played Christian songs. Then, during quarantine, I found myself on that end of youtube and twitter. The reaction videos made me cry and understand their songs. They were so deep and meaningful and relatable. I love their MOTS, LY:Answer and BE albums. Make it Right, Epiphany, and So What won me over plus their colorful personalities and closeness as a group ( I liked that about Super Junior too). It took awhile before I succumbed but here we are today...

I meet them because my sister was going to sing their song(Save me) in Smule. So she showed me the Blood, Sweat and Tears MV, cause after she participated in the contest she found them interisting and so do I. At first I was like "they're the same, but with different hair colors", and yes, I was so lame. It was around November 2016 that I became a fan. My sister and I searched everything about them and we knowed their songs. Sadly we fall into the toxic part of the fandom, like calling them "Alien", "Horse", and those things. The good thing is that through this 4 years being a fan I changed and know I'm educated. I hope this doesn't happen to any other new army, cause you really fall into thinking those sort of things are right, when it doesn't💀 Sorry if my english is kind of weird, it's not my first lenguage:(

Wow, you wrote this one year ago and have only 3 likes??? I am a new fan of BTS and still learning about them, that what you wrote is very interesting is this truth? If yes, that is sad what they have been through and at the same time amazing how strong and persistent they have been to get where they are now... When I first seen them on KZbin in my recommendations videos I straightaway noticed the potential, talent and uniqueness from all the other Western boy bands. I could say that when I first listened to their songs I was shocked how on earth I and the rest of the Western world didn't know that this amazing artist existed before.

The massive ignorance in this video really knocked me back a bit, honestly. I wish people could look past these prejudiced opinions regarding BTS sooner, and that their music was lyrically analyzyed. The color of the DNA MV was so vibrant and colorful due to the storyline of the Love Yourself Series, where the boys stumble upon an incredible love that they're sure is destined to last forever. And in the Fake Love MV, the sets are dark and not everything is "poppy." Everything ties and belongs and communicates to a broader concept, which is what makes BTS so attractive to listeners. Comparisons between Blackpink and BTS are seriously a joke; no hate to the girls but they didn't experience the journey BTS had to endure before success that didn't happen overnight. The personality comment was pretty offensive as well, since it's a colossal part of why we adore them as people, and not a manufactured group. It wasn't exactly fair to judge them based on earlier videos. However, watching the video, I was shocked at how much denial you were in, but I gave you major props for sticking with them throughout their career. When you mentioned the emotional impact Magic Shop had on you, I hesitated on clicking the dislike button. People don't have to like BTS, or feel obligated to, but they should at least make the effort to get to know them and their music before making judgements. This is my opinion and I'll stand by it.

Wow, we are so different. I ended up liking BTS before even knowing what K-pop was. A close friend of mine was interested in the band, and because I wanted to hang with her I watched run Bts with her. Wasn’t a fan of the popular music at the time, my fave artists are Hozier, yebba, Zayn so you can imagine that Boy with luv/ Dynamite did not appeal. I liked that underground raw vibe. Anyway, what got me into BTS was Jimin. I have to be honest. I watched him in a run Bts episode and just admired him. I feel like it’s hard to be neutral towards BTS when Jimin is your bias, it’s almost a one way ticket to being a hard fan. In fact, although K-pop had no appeal, I’m actually finding it difficult now to put it in its place time wise. Thanks Jimin 😅 Anyway, he really cared for his members, so I became curious. Watched more documentaries to understand their culture. Then I heard Mic Drop and loved it. It made me realize that there was so much more to their music beyond pop. So I began listening to Jimin’s solos first, and when I heard Promise I was sold. This was exactly my music style! I never thought K-pop had these type of songs: mellow, emotional and calming. His voice moved me, I loved it. So that moved me to not just like them as entertainers, but to see them as artists. I started diving into their albums, the lyrics. Then I watched a Jimin fake love fan cam and that moved me to watch their performances. They have now moved from just a K-pop group to an artist I admire. I enjoy their albums and music as I would any of my other western faves, even without the added bonus of content. That was my prejudice with K-pop: getting you to like music because you like the artist. To me, art and artist have always been different. And for a musician, it’s the music that should take precedence. But seeing the Behind the scenes made me respect the music more, like when an artist dives into the meaning behind his work. So I can say I love chapter 2 BTS: lessening the content and letting their music shine. And even though I was attracted to Jimin’s personality at first, I’m happy that his music is what is really holding me. His song “Like Crazy” is that good, and I love the story of FACE. BTS are artists first, and I applaud them for breaking the K-pop mold to focus on their craft before the military.

My story is pretty much similar to your story as I didn't wanna get involved with BTS because of them being asian and I wasn't sure what asian people were like in my own personal opinion so when 2020 happened *cough cough* and I saw Jimmy Fallon one night, I heard BTS was going on the show. I had heard of their name BTS but not the members themselves...until...the part where they intro themselves individually and that's when i got hooked. RM spoke to me INSTANTLY because he's a leader & leading my life the way I wanna lead it is something Im aspiring to do so after that, I got off the train till this year at the grammys when they did Butter. THAT PERFORMANCE :'D so HOT yet got me back into them! so if you were curious: My Bias is Namkook but my recor is JIN. Jin's line in butter where he says "Ain't no other That can sweep you up like a robber Straight up, I got ya Makin' you fall like that" with the eye look....KILLED ME INSIDE and still does! so what's your bias? :D

in 2018 was when i first heard BTS everywhere i went , dynamite played in the background. even in school , some teachers and students or some of my friends talk about BTS. last time , since i saw how so many girls fangirled over BTS , i dared not find out about them as i thought it was like a virus and i wouldnt be able to focus on my studies. i talked bad about BTS just so that i can tell myself that i hate them such that i wouldnt bother finding out about them. funny thing is that i listened to blackpink's 4D & how you like that back then , it actually wont be any different but since blackpink didnt have as big of an influence , i had no idea it was kpop so i just listened fastforward to last year , when i decided to find out about BTS since nobody talked about BTS anymore so i wanted to find out more about them and why they r so popular , fun fact it that ever since butter was released , it somehow landed in my playlist and stayed there. i pretty much liked it but since i had no idea who the members were , i tried finding out about whatever happened since 2013. and tbh , i wasnt really attracted by their looks , i didnt quite bother but after watching run bts , i got to know them more and started choosing my bias. i luv their personality. but after having a bias , i found out i could actually be ot⁷ so here i am , an ot⁷ army who mixes 3 languages when i speak with someone im familiar with 😌💜 i dont regret the fact that butter was randomly in my spotify playlist. im a late army and i dont want to seek forgiveness for being a late army bcs i learnt that we dont have to be blood related to be family and family means we'll accept each other even if i dont stan bts anymore , they were once a big part of my life , they helped me find my interest , and especially my bias back then when i tried having a personality like him which i found attractive which kind of made my personality a bit more mature than i was one year ago (the bias which influenced me for the better is in my pfp but i am ot⁷)

I got into Kpop because I used to watch Koreans react a lot (I still do lollll), then I heard the song idol in 2018... I wasn't a huge fan, I did like it a bit but I thought the music video was weird and too much. I also watched a few funny video compilations and I laughed at them. honestly, I tried so hard to get them off of my KZbin recommended because I didn't want to like them... then in 2020 I watched my first kdrama in lockdown because I was bored. I watched a lot of kdramas. I decided to give Kpop another try and got into bts first. now I like multiple groups :) also i'm learning Korean and want to live in Korea for a year or two lmao

I really want to told you guys about this. I literally not BTS fans for a very long time. Tbh, I just like for certain group. And yeah I become kpop fans since I was 11 years old and now I am 23 years old. Imagine how immature I was when become a teenager kpop fans😭😭😭😭. But early this year, I faced difficulty to handle my emotion and mental health. Its really effected me a lot, I got sick and even pass out so many time😭😭. One day, when I was open my KZbin Mp3 apps, there was recommendation song which is Spring Day by BTS. I dont know why but I really want to know how the sound of their song. So, I click and play the song. In just a minute, I crying so loud. I dont understand the lyrics but it make me cry. After that, I try looking for the english lyrics and that time I really broke apart. The lyrics "Past the edge of cold winter, until the spring day comes again, until the flowers bloom, please stay there a while longer, Please stay" It is really brokes me, I dont know but those words just like telling me to stay on the ground until a new beginning arrive for me. That time I really had my respect to BTS and literally listen every of their song. Thanks to them, I know how to love myself more and be confident. In the past, I really was an immature fans but thanks to BTS I realize that spready love is really a heal for yourself and others💜

Considering how quickly you became a blink, bandwagoned and then decided you weren’t anymore, and now you’re claiming to be an “army,” it’s hard to believe if you truly love bts or even take them seriously After calling them childish and their music manufactured you suddenly like them after listening to magic shop..? Give me a break It seems like practically forced yourself into liking them just because they got popular

As we, ARMYs, say, we don't find BTS until we need them. Magic Shop is a very powerful song and 10x more if you really needed those words at a certain time in your life. I can relate to her because when I heard Paradise, the first thing that came to my mind is "finally". Finally, somebody is saying these words. Finally, somebody knows the feeling I've been carrying on my own for years. Finally. I believe there is a BTS music for everyone. And someday, that music will find them when they need it most. 😊

Hope you accept all the things you hated before colourful videos, goofiness childishness lacking in English are all things we love about them because they are genuine.. and hopefully you’ve also seen the sides of all the seven of them that are stylish intelligent kind generous thoughtful polite and cool! ☺️💜

idm they sing using their language but somehow it would be best if they can speak English during interviews, as their foreign fans put effort to learn abt their song they should at least know how to communicate in English. Just saying, i like their MVs looks fancy.
