As a much younger man my contemporaries adored Grand Funk while I listened to Steely Dan. They thought I didn’t see the brilliance in GF, I couldn’t understand why they failed to see the qualities of SD. Which has lasted?

I bought the "Countdown To Ecstasy" album the day after hearing "My Old School" on FM radio in 1973. The guy that never gets enough credit is the late Jimmie Haskell for his brilliant horn arrangement on this song. Great to hear this with Lindsey Skeye's voice. When I first saw Steely Dan in April 1974, they left the girls on the West Coast and relied on backing vocalists Michael McDonald and 19 year-old Royce Jones.

@@frankmiller6208 My wife and I were lucky to see them as headliners at the U. of Toledo, where they got the sound crew's best effort and an arena full of fans who were there just to see them. Two night's earlier they had to open for The Beach Boys in Columbus, and my cousin who attended that show said much of the crowd showed no interest in hearing Steely Dan.

I love that legendary drummer bros, Rick and Jerry, are playing the Dan together! Still, one of my favorite drumming grooves is Rick's masterful work on "Peg"!

Yes I find it very annoying when they gt even a few words wrong. With such a fine band that is well-rehearsed and seems to consist mostly of professionals doing what they love, it is quite surprising he doesnt remember them all.
