Hey Evan. So I detail professionally. When compound sticks to the paint it is because you’re creating too much heat (speed is too fast and movement is too slow, or your moving too slow with slow speed, or too much pressure not allowing pad to spin will cause this along with a couple other things) When using wool or microfiber pads you will get haze because you’re using a buffing compound which is aggressive so you can cut into the deeper scratches, swirls, and imperfections. Subaru has hard clear which makes it a little harder to remove scratches. But basically you’ll want to do a 2 step. I like microfiber pads with whatever compound you want to use and then follow behind with a light polish and polishing pad which will restore the gloss and get rid of any haze. Glad you’re giving the STI the much needed love. My jaw dropped when you picked the car up because of how dirty that guy let it get.

How do I get into the detailing industry
@hoondagang4919
@hoondagang4919 Жыл бұрын
@@LukBacca you are going to need to get license and bonded and a llc first then your going to either need a buisness credit card or have cash to buy products then you will need to fine customers charge a good price and remember you have to pay taxes on all money you make at the end of the year, keep all receipts for taxes..other than that you need to DO IT and not get in your own way…..simple

Have to be aware of the residue build up when removing a lot of the clear. It builds up in the pad and then just gets spread around, could be to blame for the haze you saw. In Between small areas, you should be using compressed air or a tool to remove the product and clear from the pad and it’ll help the finish come along faster

Evan, I want to begin by saying this was a good informative video showing what even a DIY level detail can do to turn around a tired, neglected car. Your skills and knowledge are impressive for a self-taught person and I like how you encourage people to have a go and explain your process. I’d like to share a few tips as I own a detailing business myself and I feel a few tips and tricks could really turn someone of your skills into someone who can get a next level result. If I missed something when watching or it was done off camera please disregard but some friendly advice I will try to keep succinct to not bore you: Prep work: Prep, prep prep. Much the same as actually painting a car, with detailing your prep work is the foundation for a good result. I can speak for Griots if they make an iron decontaminating product, but seeing the video of the car with the high spots and contamination in that paint, I feel an iron and tar decontamination could have benefitted greatly prior to the clay bar and would have assisted with leaving less imperfections as a result of the clay. Whilst the clay is the first step, myself and many detailers believe strongly in not making more work for ourselves! Masking and removing parts that could be in the way: I understand it’s a big job and most DIYers don’t want to half disassemble their cars during a detail. That being said, some items are a quick removal process that make the job significantly easier and the result way better! For example, your window washing jet. I noticed in the video (and I apologise if this was later touched up) the area around the jets was still dull and somewhat swirled. A quick removal of these would have let you stay flat and go over the holes for the jets and not make these particular parts stand out. It also reduces the risk of the plastic of the jets (which break down as a car ages) contaminating your pad and consequently your paint when correction! Which brings me to masking - always mask your black plastics, rubbers and any other surface that could contaminate your pad, or in your rubbers case end up going white from polish contaminating the rubber surface. Process: I noted you started super aggressive without checking the paint depth. The risk here is reduced with experience and likely in the STI’s case was pulled off without issue, however in detailing we always start at the least abrasive method and work our way up. No need to remove more clear coat than necessary when a less aggressive pad and compound combo can get the job done. Subaru’s in particular have a very soft clear coat (soft in the detailing world being it’s super easy to cut scratches and imperfections out with a correction - anyone who has worked on a Subaru, then examples such as a Corvette or Mercedes with ceramic-clear can attest you’ll have far more fun and need a far less abrasive method for Subaru clear). Your ‘sticky’ feeling when cutting stems from a) going very aggressive and building up heat in the panel, as well as an enthusiastic amount of product. Whilst your abrasive cutters will always be harder to wipe than your polishes or final steps, it never should take two hands rubbing hard to remove if temperature and product amounts are managed. Particularly with Subaru, they can quite easily be subject to further marks if the wiping process is too difficult (which as you likely discovered can at least be mitigated with the later levels of correction). I’d recommend experimenting with less product and seeing the results you can make with less product - not only is wiping easier, but you also can “see through” the product better to see your correction process as you buff. Finally, not to step on your toes, but a friendly disagreement - focussing on the panels that catch light is a bit of a misnomer as light will catch on every panel depending on light source and angles. I highly recommend - painful though it may be - try to create as uniform a result as possible over the entire car as you never know when the light will catch on an area that hasn’t had as much love and attention. That being said - this is probably from a perspective of providing a result to a paying customer and not a DIYer working on their own vehicles. Hopefully some friendly advice can help with your future details as even with your experience, we are always learning and developing. It’s great to see someone encouraging DIYers to have a crack and show what results can be achieved with consumer level products. Great video and keen to see the build and progress of the STI!

Take it to Autoscience, you won't regret it. Currently making 940whp for a year now and 750whp for 3years previously. Same block and still running strong.
