Finally, a mature opinion on this drama! We have no idea how much money Barrett earns, what she spends it on, or how much she needs to live - it's childish and ridiculous for us to judge her as outsiders. Maybe she's saving for a house. Maybe she's trying to retire her parents. Maybe she's saving for a nice holiday. God forbid artists should give up their time and be paid for it. She owes fans absolutely nothing, and it seriously worries me that people seem to think they have some kind of cost-free 'claim' upon her to do things for them.
@kittee64096 жыл бұрын
Her dad died when she was 9, and she went to an art school in high school that costed $62,000. Elon University is also almost $50,000 a year. She also had many lessons and coaches. Her mom paid for that on her own. She's probably trying to pay her mom back for all of that.

I followed Barrett a while back and I remember seeing her post on Instagram that during the DC run of Mean Girls people were following her home from the stage door and then I heard that during the previews for Mean Girls in NYC someone had thrown an egg in the direction of the stage door and it ended up hitting her by accident. So she has her reasons for not doing the stage door. and also if cost is in option you can send a letter to her at the theatre and also give an envelope with a return address and the cast, including Barrett, have been know to write back to fans who do that. Yo are not owed a stage door experience that is something the actors do on their own it isnt apart of the cost of the ticket or their contracts.
@alexalson6456 жыл бұрын
And to make matters worse, when she stated that part of the reason why she doesn't stage door is because she has a bit of social anxiety, there's this one b**** that's like "iF YoU hAVe AnXieTy, wHY ARe yOu EvEN iN tHEatER?" Well, excuse me as I, a theater person who also happens to have social anxiety, repeatedly smash my head against a wall for such stupidity.
@emmoxley67626 жыл бұрын
a lot of actors have anxiety or are introverted or even just shy - they might feel comfort on stage but it doesn't me they are comfort meeting a ton of fans every night
@hayleydoesthings5 жыл бұрын
And also with stagedooring in general, the actors just poured their HEART out on stage for their fans. Stagedooring is extra, it’s not required of them. And I went to a matinee of Mean Girls and I assumed going in that there would be less actors coming out than for an evening show because they need that time in between shows to recover and get food and prep for the night show. So it’s not just Barrett and there’s another reason why an actor might not stage door.
@frauleinzuckerguss19064 жыл бұрын
@@emmoxley6762 Exactly. Some people can go on stage and do these amazing things even if they're introverted or anxious. Maybe they can rock it with a script but get nervous when they have to "freestyle." No matter what her reasons are, the fans should respect that.

People get caught up in the idea that because she is famous, she absolutely has to do something for charity. She is such a political activist and donates her time to helping inform other about our elections. She is a beacon of positivity. She does so much good in this world already. What she does with her money is her own business and we have no say in what she does. How would we like it if we had a bunch of strangers telling us how to spend our money? Why can’t we just let people live their lives? This is good tea sis.

I'm not a fan. She just doesn't grab my attention BUT I respect how hard she works on Broadway. It's very challenging producing the goods for 8 shows a week and there's no guarantee that she'll ever have a leading role again. If she's lucky and stays the course it may happen again or her TV/Movie career may take off. In the meantime it is important that she capitalize on her momentum and make money the best way she can. I think she's smart for making the best of her opportunity.
@kittee64096 жыл бұрын
She doesn't stage door because she has Social Anxiety, and now that she has so many fans, it's too overwhelming to go out into giant crowds where everyone's attention is focused on her. She also lives in an apartment by herself in NYC. Rent is expensive, and Broadway stars don't make as much money as major film stars. She also has to pay insurance like Amy said. Everything costs a ridiculous amount of money in NYC. There's also no guarantee she'll get another job immediately after Mean Girls closes (whenever it does) because show business is a fickle business. She's talented, but that doesn't mean she gets whatever role she wants when she wants it. She has to save up more money because if no show comes out that has a good role for her, or if someone else fits that role better, she may not have a job for a while. She has to prepare for that.

Your correct, I have auditioned for many Broadway and off Broadway and tours, and even Disney only pays you the going equity rates depending on if your chorus or featured lead or the main lead. you don't make a 9 figure salary every week like movie star names that are brought in for the shows or you have worked your butt off like the great actresses like path lapse or Bernadette peters and such. You very rarely get in a show that pays you enough to live in NYC and have three houses in different places its just not done, and even hollywood actors and actresses don't fully see all of what they are making due to studio dues, taxes, and their agents, and the actors unions, it may look all over the top and crap, and maybe it is for people who have no clue how to spend their money wisely or hold onto it, but allot of the actors and actresses i have worked with are not loaded or have the mentality to spend their money like drunkin sailers do. Broadway show actors and actresses and especially the kids on Broadway are not making allot of money to buy what ever they want, they need to be careful and so do the parents of the kids on Broadway as well.

I don't usually watch your videos, and I don't follow the theatre fandom closely, but you've given both good insight into what's going on and basically the most truthful view point. This whole drama is the exact reason I don't follow fandoms, musical theatre especially. People get way to attached to performers. I remember hearing that back when Heathers was off broadway, Barrett would get death threats and horrible messages since she makes out Ryan McCartan in the show, and Ryans fans from his disney show he was doing didn't like that because he was "theirs". I know it's not all bad, and sometimes stage door experiences can be great (my favorite moments in shows is always coming out of the dressing room to talk to the audience afterwards, even if it's just family and friends telling me that I did well), but this just shows one of the ugly sides of professional theatre.

All 👏 of 👏 this 👏 Amy is absolutely right. We have no idea how much money Barrett earns, and even if she did earn a good amount, I heard from a student while I was in NYC that apartments usually only go as low as $500 per month. From that same student, I also heard that the average salary (of an ensemble member, however) is only about $60 per show. Frankly, I can see why Barrett might want some extra money! She needs clothes, she needs food, she needs other necessities, and just because of the fact that she lives in New York, all of that is going to be 3x as expensive than it would be somewhere else. Basically, kudos to Amy for calling some people out on this. I totally support what Barrett is doing.

Broadway performers only make 50 to 60K a year, so she’s in the right to not give that money to anyone. Maybe she’s saving up so she can do other cool projects. i totally understand and agree with a lot of what you’re saying. my main concern is that she may be taking advantage of some of her younger fans. $50 is a lot of money, and i don’t think that calling cameo a “virtual stage door” is an accurate representation of what it is. stage dooring by no means obligation of an actor. at all. they owe absolutely nothing to us. however, the stage door is free and obviously, cameo is not. i just think barrett could have been a little more careful with her wording when she announced that she would be joining the site.

Juliana Postrel This “taking advantage of younger fans” idea is ridiculous. Kids spend their money on $50 shoes and $50 hairstyles and all manner of things.This is just one more product they can choose to buy or not. It’s not Barrett’s job to parent her young fans.

A lot of people I a see hating on popular celebrities are those who just seem like their mad that someone else was successful in life and they weren't and that's just pathetic. What seems to be happening in this case is fans that believe that being a fan of Barrett means that she owes them something. That is just not true, she is a human being with a life of her own and can live as she chooses. Being a fan does not make you an employer or boss and it's aggravating seeing so many entitled fans out there that think they have more power/authority then they do. Lending a bit more perspective: if you’re a lead in a broadway show the average pay is around $2,300 a week, not including taxes; and New York City has one of the highest tax rates in the US. So naturally it’s of the most expensive places in the US to live, a tiny one bedroom in Manhattan averages about $3,400 a month not including utilities. And this isn’t including daily living expenses like groceries or other necessities. One of my friends went to NYU for law school and it was cheaper for her to order her groceries off Amazon than it was for her to go shopping at her local bodega.

I'm pretty neutral about it because it's her life and she has the right to decide for herself. There was just one thing that was iffy for me? which was when people were criticising her about charging a large fee and she responded by making it a feminist issue. She made it seem as though people were being critical because she was a woman making money when they were just upset about the high charges. Again, I have no strife with her choices for Cameo but that specific response of hers kind of made me 😬 but that's just my opinion.

I agree!! It’s up to Barrett what she wants to do

I understand what she's done and why she's done it but I do think it's more expensive than it should be.

I completely agree! She’s allowed to do what she wants. People don’t have to pay for it if they don’t want.

Accusing someone just because they don't want to do stage door. Don't audience realize that stage door can be extremely dangerous for the artists? People have SHOT by "fans". People have anxiety, weak immune system or are claustrophobic. You paid for a ticket to watch a play happening on a stage. You didn't pay to touch and hug and push actors on stage door

I heard that she was followed on the way home by a crazy fangirl after stage door. I don't think the fan was aggressive towards her or tried to harm her but the fan definitely overstepped their boundaries and that's why Barrett stopped stage dooring. From personal experience at stage doors specifically the mean girls stage door the security is really great but a lot of the cast just walks home by themselves after they leave so it's totally understandable that Barrett feels uncomfortable especially considering her run in at her own home with a fan who followed her.

Maybe she was donating to charity (or putting it towards a good cause) and just didn’t feel the need to say it publicly. 🤷♀️

I hate how people are so quick to hate on Barett for no reason.

I completely agree. It’s totally fine! It’s not a scam, everyone knows what they’re getting. People will want to pay for a personalised video, why should she not sell them? If someone says “Hey, I’d be willing to pay $50 for this thing” then, let them x

Like you said people forget she is human and start treating her differently, non of her fan know what's going on in her personal life like she might be saving for some surgery for a family member or something but whatever it is she is human and doesn't deserve any of the crap people are throwing at her 💜

I don't see why people have an issue with it, it's not like she's getting people to give her money to do nothing, her fans get something out of it too. I'm sure that if the other cast members hadn't have said their revenue was going to charity, no one would have thought anything of it.

I 100% agree I had the same argument with Lana Parrilla who was almost $400. (Which is a lot but...) Once Upon a Time has a HUGE following and I’ve been to conventions where people pay thousands of dollars to see her and get like 7 autographs and 7 photo ops so what’s the difference? If you wanna pay for it do it, if not then don’t! And people also used the same arguments you’ve been saying and being a TV Show and being in groups with thousands and thousands of fans on each group she’d swamped!!!! She also did like 7-10 minute videos so it’s crazy how negative people are! They were even bringing up her wages from the show saying she didn’t need the money, crazy!!

honestly i think it's none of our business. like you said, we don't know as much as some of us think we do about her life. we don't know her financial situation, or whether or not she actually is giving the money to charity. but even if she isn't, who cares? she is taking time out of her already busy schedule to send videos to fans. yes, you're paying for them, but that's where your involvement stops. if she decides to keep the money, that's okay, if she gives it to charity, cool. like you said, we need to remember that she is only human, and we need to respect her and her privacy.

Some cringey fan girl yelled out to Grey Hensen as he was leaving “is Barrett coming out? I’m gay!!!” and he was being sarcastic and said “yes” and those girls actually thought she was gunna come out 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ lmaoo

Y'all actors and actresses (especially in theater) do not make as much as you think. If she wants money, then that makes her no different then 99.9% of people on there so why are y'all going after her?

I agree 110%, Amy. I’m sick of fans harassing Broadway actors and ruining the experience for the rest of us. Stage dooring is a privilege, not a right.
