hey folks, this is just a video that talks about what I use to complete the task of food procurement via firearm and defense via firearm.
I hope you enjoy it, and if you have any questions, leave them in the comments

I am 63, lifelong Arkansas resident, & I have hunted/fished my entire life. Your video shows several things but one of the mostly important I believe is that one does NOT have to buy an expensive firearm to be considered lethal. I love all types of firearms & I have several. But all my guns are of the “friendly budget” group. I have a Maverick 88 (by Mossberg) which is the “budget” version of the Mossberg 500. No telling the meals that shotgun has been responsible for & never one time has that shotgun ever failed in the field while hunting. My 22 rifle is a Savage in which it is also very accurate to my ability in shooting which is extremely limited. I don’t shoot far nor do I practice shooting long distances but I can keep a very respectable group out to 50 yards with any gun I own. This video shows the importance of staying within your boundaries in shooting but also staying with your personal budget. Great video & one Awesome message for all. Oh BTW, 410 only comes in 2 1/2 or 3 inch not 2 3/4!….😂. Sorry & no bashing intended.

Thanks for the interaction, and to be quite honest, I never noticed that about 410. I've shot 1000s of rounds and never took the time to notice that. I think it is because as a kit, after I was old enough to buy my own ammo, it was 12 Guage all that way, and I just assumed I really appreciate you pointing that out

My hunting shotgun cost less than $300 in a pawn shop. I spent more than that for an elk rifle, to be fair. But your point stands: in many or most cases, the cheap gun isn't the weak link. Enjoyed this video, thanks for posting.

If it works for you then it works. I would not feel underpowered with my 357 and my marlin. 30-30 but I everyday carry my 10 mm sig 1911 and when I go into the woods it's my go to along with my 30-30, I don't have use for a long-range gun as I live in the northeast if I did need long distance, I would take my 300-win mag.

unfortunately in my neck of the woods, It is Illegal for me to hunt with a rifle cartridge other than .22lr or .22 magnum for small game and coyotes. Just to clarify, I live in the smallest state in the union. It's because we are so close together that rifle cartridges are illegal. I don't like it but that's the law. If you want to take deer, With a modern Firearm I believe the only one available is a shotgun and you have to use a slug. 12 gauges is the most common in my area.

Well, I technically took the coyote with my truck (unintentionally) but the mercy .45acp did a hell of a job finishing. I typically carry a 9mm but plan on getting a 10mm for woods carry this year. It's an amazing round for larger predators. It's just risky for carry due to its penetration depth. Great video man.

The bolt raceway is most likely filled with old sticky lubricant. Clean it and you will find it to run much smoother with no resistance. The loose assembly of the bolt is normal, Savage center fire rifles have a floating bolt head. In theory, that allows the cartridge to be chambered without any negative influence from the bolt, the floating head will follow and lock inline with the natural seating of the cartridge. Congrats on having realistic and honest values and hunting ethics. Dave & The Girls

410 is 2.5 inches or 3.0. Not 2.75 like every other gauge. With slugs, please try Brenneke brand. They are far superior to all the Remington, Federal and Winchester 1/4 ounce rifled slugs. Buffalo Outdoors is a YT channel that tested these and the results are very interesting. I recommend you give that a look. Thanks for the video!

Good stuff, I grew up on single shot shotguns mostly and spent a ton of time in the woods. That bein said I 100 percent agree with you on that 410. I grew up on a new England firearms co. Single shot 410 that I've personally takin everything from birds to deer with and was my companion on tons of weekend and overnights out in the woods. I have way more options now but still like gettin back to my roots from time to time. I think as of late, my main 2 calibers I use in the woods more then any is 45 colt, in a single action army or a lever gun and 223/5.56. They've both proven to be very adequate for most things I need a firearm for in the woods. Would love to find a ruger black hawk one day in 45 colt, but for now I'll keep usin my single actions or even my 6.5 inch barrel judge magnum from time to time. That judge with the 3 inch cylinder and 6.5 inch barrel has been a great woods gun and very versatile for me.

Rim fires are simply less reliable than center fire. With that said I think a lot of people over exaggerate. With as in expensive as the firearms are and as inexpensive the ammo is compared to basically any other caliber I think they provide a lot of value. If you have a few rounds not go off in ten thousand rounds I think they’re still completely viable for alot of tasks and like I said offer alot of value.

I use an 270win in northern rockies because its factory ammo and reloading components are available and mostly affordable compared to most other choices outside of 308win. I will give you a piece of excellent advice for your practice with your rifle. Go and get your rifle set up with an proper shooting sling for the field and practice as much high angle and field positional shooting as possible. It will make all the difference. Some people claim all manner of expertise and make all kinds of claims but you see them shooting from a bench, a bag, or bipod on a flat square range. That really isnt skill building compared to practicing riflecraft in actual terrain and conditions. Theres some good slings around for field shooting. Theres also an hybrid you might want to look into called the Slogan Sling that might work well for you and there's some ad video avaliable on them. Good luck and have fun.

I’ve hunted elk and mule deer. Never tried white tail. I have a cousin who is a prolific elk hunter and he uses 270. He razzes me for sticking with 30-06. My Savage 110 is an excellent hunting rifle. With that rifle in 30-06 I find most of my elk shots are under 200 and I’ve had a few face to face hunting encounters at closer to 25 yards with elk and mule deer. I try to limit myself to 250 yards but I have taken 1 shot in my life where I shot at 450 yd and was successful. I sure do love a 30-30 hunting as well. Out west shotguns aren’t that common unless you are a bird hunter which isn’t as popular as big game. For handguns I’m still a fan of 45 SAA. I’m not a fan of handgun hunting. That’s what rifles are for. 22s are great. You can hunt small stuff with that. I’ve had some duds with 22lr but that’s not a big deal. I don’t know why people make a big deal over that. But they aren’t great for mid sized dogs. It will go right through them at close range but you won’t see any real effect on them other than thinking you are pelting them with something like rocks or a BB gun.

I’m in northern NM but have lived on and off for half my life in Colorado. I’ve never seen a wild hog except on hunting shows. I’m tempted to get a 357 lever action though. Seems like a fun gun. Unfortunately, here it isn’t legal to hunt big game with buckshot. Only slugs if using a shotgun. Lately I’ve been tempted to try black powder muzzle loaders just to open up more opportunities for public land elk hunting.

You're 110 was made in 1986. I have a 110E in .243 winchester with a blonde stock. I haven't taken a deer with it yet. The .270 is a great round, I have a Winchester Model 70 carbine from the 80s chambered in it. My dad always used 150 grain remington core-lokts in it and had success with them. I plan to try some 130 grain core-lokts out of it this year. One of my favorite firearms is my Mossberg 190 16 gauge bolt action shotgun. In my area, 16 gauge is still fairly available and it has a c-lect choke so I can shoot any shell that isn't steel shot. Great video.

I and shot 400 standing and sitting but I'm too fat for prone at that distance and to uncomfortable with my bad knee to make it at 400. Never shot 270 past 400 as of yet. I, also, love my .357 Ruger Blackhawk with the 6 1/2 " barrel. I've taken 2 wild boar with it. I have deer hunted with it, but they just didn't come into my comfort range. It is the firearm that's most likely to be with when out on the farm. BUT I would not take it bear hunting. With that being said, I'm trout fishing in Montana this spring. I will be taking my .357 Ruger SP101 AND my .45 Colt Blackhawk for bear defense. It'll depend how I feel each day as to which one accompanies me to the River.

@offthecouch1999 you made sound like in East Alabama you it is so remote you can get caught in bad weather than make it to civilization before night fall, so you need have your bed roll ready. Are public lands like that in Alabama? I guessed further North on the Appalachian trail.

Yeah there are parts here that you can get stuck in. Pretty good. Set and people in this part of town would freak out if they saw a white dude. And a cowboy Hat walking down the street with a gun. It's a lot easier to just camp. And get out tomorrow than it is to piss off the local populace. Or risk, actually getting hurt or something of that nature

Closer quote "I would rather get in trouble for taking a squirrel off season than die" you were talking about carrying your 410 in new woods for snakes. Look at about 15:15 in the video. By the way really like the new intro. Maybe drop the scene firing away with the AR-15.

@@offthecouch1999 I'm not trying to be offensive, but it just seems odd to me someone would make a video about firearms they have supposedly used extensively, then refer to its chambering as a completely different cartridge... I own a 270win and have never referred to it as a WINCHESTER MAGNUM

Hey. I know people who have worked as a handyman for 30 years and didn't know the proper term for plunging tool was oscillating saw... also I'm aware it's not a winchester magnum. I simply said it by accident.
