My Painting Process in Procreate (Part 2)

Welcome back! In this video, I'll be showing you how I add colour to my sketches using Procreate. This part of the process took 5 hours to complete, so I've condensed it down into just 12 minutes. Let me know what you think and if I should make more like this! I'm hoping to do more detailed tutorials in the future too if you're interested :)

thanks for sharing your process. your painting looks very beautiful and expressive. it seems you didn't use the blending tool, did you? how come?

Thank you so much!! I like the oily texture that the HB Brush creates and I knew if I blended it, some of that texture won’t be as prominent. I also think blending is easy for me, so I like to push myself with layering the colours every now and then too 😊

@@artbykrishie yeah, sounds reasonable 👌 and yes indeed that oily grainy texture is the key in your painting. Love it. And is there a certain method to layer, I mean do you use multiple procreate layers with certain blending modes or are you layering in one layer (no clue how you do that) 🙈 ?

@@IamMaiLan With my canvas size, I don’t really have that many layers to work with. But I usually start my first layer with flat colours, second layer with the different planes of the face, third layer is gentle blending of the planes (so flat colour without using the blending tool), and then all the other layers is about refining the transition between each plane. If I did a video breaking this down, would that be helpful?

Nice painting. What brush did you use. HB Brush was listed under the video but I don't see how you could paint with HB Brush

Thank you so much! And this was the HB brush - I just increased its max size in Properties to around 50% to get the grain. If you do this with pretty much any of the sketching brushes in Procreate, it create a really nice oily texture! ☺

Am a beginner and i learn to draw and paint for fun, but damn i like your style! You inspired me to make my own first brush ( i use krita) But i hit one big problem! How do i learn your painting style? I mean i don't wanne copy your work i want to learn the brush strokes and blending methode style. How does that style name ? I really want to focus on it Sorry for my langue :(

That’s amazing - I’m glad these videos are helping you! The style I’m drawing in is realism and hyper realism. I’m going to do a blending tutorial in the next few weeks breaking everything down. This will include the tools that I use, the methods I like to use and different ways to make rendering easier. Would that be helpful? 😊

@@artbykrishie i now music is hard to find because of copyright.but some ambient stuff would be good i like a dude called tim hecker. it was a bit loud. i watch a dude called kim jung gi. he is not around anymore sadly he did not use any music check him out super ANi korean your work is really good thank you for sharing i will be watching sounds strange you now what i mean haha
