My Parents Leave Istanbul After 40 Years - VLOG

Leaving Istanbul After 40 Years. My mom & dad are living in Istanbul since 1984 in the same area in the city. After living in hometown for summers, they finally decided to move permanently to Kastamonu in The Black Sea coast of Turkiye. Always praying for what is best, I have to face to be far from them again.

I lived in Turkey for 5 years, married for 22 years to my ex-Turkish husband. I will always love the people, culture, country, and kindness. I still cook the wonderful Turkish dishes that I learned while there. As an African-American, I felt more loved in Turkey than any other country.

I understand the sadness, the emptiness one feels when the loved ones leave. It's hard not being able to just go over for coffee, lunch or for a short visit. But God willing you will travel more to see them. Best of luck to your parents!

I spend a few days in Kastamona a few years ago. A nice city with friendly people. Very different though to Istanbul, quieter and clear air. I would like to have spend more time exploring the area. I had the best bean soup and rice in a little local cafe there. Delicious. I wish your parents well with their move. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪

I think I know how your parents feel about moving to Kastamonu, a more provincial environment. You'll be able to visit them, often, on the beautiful Black Sea coast where I'm sure they will be comfortable in a more laid back, less URBAN-paced environment. I grew up in an ultra-urban Houston, Texas, but when I retired, I settled in a much smaller, rural university town, and I have never regretted it (well, maybe a little - I miss some of the urban activities that are unavailable in a rural setting.) Rural living is an easier, less cluttered lifestyle. It's not for everyone, but the older you get, the more you appreciate an environment with less of the urban din. Home gardening comes to mind...and fresh foods right out of the garden!

Hello Michael, absolutely it is what they were thinking about. Istanbul is vey big and crowded city. We have tons of places to go, flea markets were my father used to go almost 3-4 times a week :) but it was getting harder everyday. The thing I refused still because it is also the time they will need us more then ever. But we always pray for the best, so looks like this is the best for now. Thanks again…

When my parent divorced they went 300 miles in different direction from where they raised their daughters. It was hard but I think made me a stronger person. I learned early to take life as it comes and try not to worry.
