Everyone is picking on the parents, but her brother was old enough to be responsible too. He knew exactly what he was doing.

The parents were the responsible adults, so they inherently own the lion's share of the blame. The brother is a spoiled brat, but he was literally raised to be one -- while he certainly knew exactly what he was doing, it's genuinely hard to *know better* until he reaches college age and has to actually live in the real world outside the parental bubble.

Remarkable how the parents missed all these milestone events in OPs life because of non serious injuries and illnesses of little brother which materialised at the precise moments of said events in OPs life.OP should resolve to miss Golden Childs wedding for a flimsy excuse and see how well the blinkered(or are they really?)parents react. I bet they will not have a "oh well" attitude if that should happen

A sprain ankle isn’t even an emergency room visit.

I am behind what she did with that video it had to be done. None of the things that her brother had were life-threatening or anything major first it was a sprain then it was a fever then for the wedding it was a bad sprain. That is not a reason to miss your daughters wedding. Your son is no longer a child. He’s an adult. You did not have to be there when he had a badly sprained ankle. But all you could see was your son, your son your son you’re very very bad bad parents and I’m glad she never took that video down. You should never favor one child over another because they’re both your children.

I grew up in a family where I was born as the youngest of 5 children. The only male was died after only two weeks, long before I was born. As a result, my father, also being the youngest and only son, having four daughters was a male chauvanist and showed favoritism towards the illegitimate son of the second eldest daugeter who named her son after our father. That son, used his name to bring shame to the entire family as well as to my father's church reputation by stealing money from the church. Yet, when that same sibling's son physically assaulted me, my father requested me to not report it to the police nor press charges against him because he was a "man, with a family to support". That didn't make sense to me his daughter, and I found it to be extremely disrespectful. I left home to never return, and have since cut off all communication with the rest of my relatives who support male dominant attitudes. My own son knows better than to try me with a male dominant attitude, and had better respect women or get the snot slapped out of him by me, his Momma! No one in any family should ever choose to favor the needs one child over another, especially when it comes to gender. To do so, they must be ready to face whatever consequences that will incur down the road regardless of however unfavorable they may become as the result of their actions.

I can only remember once in my kids entire lives where an unexpected urgent situation arose at the same time as one of the kiddo’s events. What did we do? Husband went to one event and i went to the other. Both events were shown equal importance. It wasn’t rocket science.

The parents said that they try to balance but sometimes things just come up with Brian. Obviously, they don't. Since there are two parents, a tried balance would be one parent support Brian, the other Megan. The father missed walking his daughter down the aisle. As for Brian, he knew what he was doing. He could've easily told his parents to be there for his sister. He knew he was the favorite.

Am I the only one surprised that the mc kept in contact with her parents beyond university…I guess prior to them showing up to her wedding, she was still holding out some small hope that her parents would change their ways…otherwise I see no good-rational reason why she wouldn’t just cut them out of her life. 2:15

A father should never missed their daughter's wedding and walking her down the aisle, only way a father would be prevented to come by death itself.

My husband and I would split up if our 2 kids had activities at the same time. If one was sick and the other had an activity, one of us stayed home and the other went and supported the other. It's truly very easy to do when they are young. But OP's parents never put OP in their list of priorities. So screw them. She found happiness, love, and built a family with the people who truly loved and respected her.

Megan didn't have any extended family members such as aunts , uncles, cousins, or grandparents?

That's not the point. She wanted her parents to be there for her just once. To show that they cared and she mattered to them.

This sounds really familiar to a story I have heard before. Though in that one it was the best man who made the video (without the groom’s knowledge). Also it was the groom’s parents and sister. The sister’s pet was sick and she “needed” emotional support from the parents.

Even if they didn't post the video I'm pretty sure they would've been chewed out by extended family when they found out they bailed for such a stupid reason, they desevered to chewed out for being terrible parents for refusing to love their children equally.

I know how she feels and went through I'm 44yrs old and the oldest of f kids and was a single mom to 3 beautiful amazing kids. I've tried to build a relationship with them but it was proving to be moot meanwhile my kid sister and 2 former friends have done nothing but demonize me and tell me I'm not making any attempts to build a relationship l. After years of being treated like garbage there final lies and blocking me on FB because I pointed out to them they owe me 12grand and my 'mom" (and I use the term loosely) considers that to be throwing back on m her face this was the first time in 18yrs I spoke up. I put up with there crazy nonsense long enough how much more did they expect me to put u p with it

Kind of a flat ending. Did OP remain in contact with her parents? Did they learn anything? Were there any repercussions on their end?

We're you ever ignored as a child? I had several siblings, but even as difficult as it could be to get attention, I still wasn't ignored EVERY TIME a major life event occurred. This is a story, but I know people in RL who want through that disregard. They, however, dumped their toxic families far earlier than this character.
