The fact that it died after you touched something on the USB seems to indicate a static discharge. In principle, that could have utterly fried some random component on the microscopic level. It's super hard to replicate, but that seems to be the only explanation consistent with your experience.

A pc keep giving alarming beeps or siren but still work fine. Usually first thing to do is to replace the PC case and install the RAM in different slots, but some RAM stick are the “leader” stick that must be in the slot 1 to make a pc POST as the other sticks of RAM “follower” sticks that couldn’t POST all by itself. It may not be the PSU has fault, but replace the PSU may fix it if all the fans works fine when there was no POST. Replace mobo’s battery too. In many cases no PC parts has fault, it just need to replace the PC case, RAM, PSU, battery with another working PC parts, so after doing all that, you ended up with 2 working PC system and not a single faulty PC part. May need to replace the PC case because some pc case’s back panel is curved outward and need pushed inward to put in the screw to secure the graphic card, so after some years or weeks of use, it pulled things out of place, bow and arrow theory … … In one of the other cases, each time the power is out in my house, I need to replace the graphic card and installed a graphic card that could POST in the PC, then I install the one that failed to POST back in place and it could POST, so each time the power it’s out I need to repeat that! Some PC could shut down due to static changes when your hand is only touching the power button to the PC that’s made of plastic. Some PC couldn’t POST, just wait a 3 days without using it, then it return to life of POST, this could happen once in a few years of use, like seeing a comet going passing by!

Put the battery in and turn on your pc without the GPU put the HDMI cable or whatever you use in your motherboard and turn your PC on and then go to your bios and put the things in your default settings and then turn off the PC and hook up everything the GPU and the cable in it and turn your PC on. The memory check LED is also illuminated which according to manual indicates a memory issue however pressing the button 3 seconds is supposed to cause the light to blink but it doesn't respond. The CMOS clear and reset button on the motherboard don't respond either. I've reseated the GPU, tried a brand new GPU, swapped the memory sticks in different slots, tried 1 memory stick and no memory sticks, it still won't POST. I can only conclude, that like yours, my motherboard has gone to the silicon place in the sky - RIP! The USB device probably had built up static current, so when it touched the plug, it killed the board. This doesn't happen often because the plugs are supposed to be grounded to the backplate, but sometimes it does happen. The algorithm succeeds yet again! I'm having this exact issue as well(albeit also a burning smell so I'll probably hire an IT company just to be safe), down to the CPU and DRAM lights, though my CPU cooler also appears to not be working. I did check my CPU prior to smelling that and also found no damage to anything so I've been pretty convinced it's the motherboard that is the problem, but I don't want to replace it without knowing for sure. If it's also the cause of the smell, possibly a short, that'd be taking out two birds with one stone.

I bricked my main (and only) PC last week, and it’s a pain in the butt. I knew it was the motherboard, so it was a starting point, but to have to reset cmos, and reseat everything is time consuming in itself (which is made more frustrating when nothing works). Same issue that I've had over the past year, on occasion, on my B450 Tomahawk board. It had previously worked really well for three years, but I thought I'd try to pretty up the cabling. The CPU debug light was on when everything would start, but then stop. No video at all. Turns out that in doing some cable management, I'd managed to somehow wrap the DVD player SATA cable (plugged into SATA port #3) around the #1 and #2 SATA port cables, the result of which was that the #1 and #2 SATA ports were actually bent UP slightly, and one of the motherboard's SATA port pins had snapped OFF, but it wasn't immediately obvious - because it looked like a snake pit at that point - UNTIL the broken headers got pulled up a bit more and the entire port came OUT of the board when I removed the SATA cable. Very stupid mistake, for sure! I should say that I've been building computers since the mid '90's, and have NEVER made a more stupid mistake. It can happen to the best of us! So, be VERY CAREFUL when trying to cable manage, especially if your case isn't necessarily the greatest in the world for making your power cabling look great! BTW, after carefully snipping off the header pins on SATA slots #1 and #2, and plugging them into slots #3 and #4, everything worked fine.

Just had a similar issue with my 5800x. Computer randomly restarted on me one day and would never boot back into Windows. It would get to the spinning circle on Windows 10 and restart. It would try to enter repair after 3 failed attempts, restart. Tried to reinstall Windows on the same drive and then a different drive, restart. I changed everything as I had most parts available. The one thing I did not have was another CPU. I've never had a CPU fail me and refused to believe it was the problem. It was the problem.... I now can boot the bad CPU as long as I set the voltage for it. I read in one of my many searches that someone had success booting theirs by manually setting the voltage and it actually worked in my case. I do have a new processor that replaced the bad one and it works fine on either MB regardless of ram or GPU configuration. I've never over clocked the failed CPU or even abused it in anyway as it's not my go to PC for daily activity. I'm still stumped as to exactly what happened to it. Why does it not work if voltage is set to auto but does if I set it manually? This is on 2 MBs getting the same result. Guess it doesn't matter and I believe AMD offers a 3 year warranty so I might do an RMA on it.

Its was obvious to me, (Technician for 30 years) that you shorted the usb-c port. So you probably blew the usb-c port support ic which went open circuit or shorted to ground. If you had a multimeter you can check to see if there are shorts around the usb-c port by checking the nearest capacitors to the usb-c ic.

What this illustrates is a FACT. All to often these days and I've been building pcs for over 40 years, the truth can be a real pain in the ! to find IF your system fails. Who generally keeps a new set of spare parts ? Also what says those parts won't be out of date or won't fit anyway? You buy a latest motherboard and it won't work out of the box ? ah cos the bios needs to be flashed but you have to install an older cpu to update the bios for the new cpu you're putting in GET my drift? Take this with an existing system and it fails what is to say from the off that it's the motherboard? Believe me they do fail though I've found generally quite a few years later an by then most of you will have upgraded anyways cos the operating systems don't or won't work on the old boards and ! Those of us who do build believe me we've been here, seen it done it got the t ☺and yes in the end its down to a process of elimination or termination☺ I've just put together an MSI Tomahawke 450 max build only for it NOT to post. Not power, not DDR4 nor cpu et so what is the problem? Ah well according to several sources those boards have a problem re post and yes to see what bios you've got on the board you need post. Me? I've returned it as I don't have the patience anymore for problems the manufacturer is supposedly aware of and continues to put out boards that have that problem. I think switching the motherboard manufacturer here in this vid is probably one of the best solutions long term.

@@RAVisuals I fixed it. turns out all I needed to do was fit it really hard on the side and blow air out of my compressor into it. also my water cooler was grounding my CPU and was putting it into safe mode. everything seemed fine though witch was strange. but I sent it to a tech and they just took it off and put it back on and it worked, that's what he told me. so I don't know, and honestly I don't care. my pc is back up and running and that's all that matters to me. still though your video was really informative, and although my situation wasn't as bad (although I had the same symptoms) as yours it did get me a few steps closer to fixing it myself. Great video, but I hope you stay happy, and not going to go through the same thing again and again and again until you take esd procedures seriously. There is so many people who wonder why their pc's go wrong and stop working after never following ESD procedures. Have you ever seen the way rust eats through metal? Its kinda the same thing but not rust obviously, it just will spread the same although its not rust. Many people don't even realise that just touching a motherboard can cause static damage when not following esd procedures its why when those boards are manufactured every single person that touches it wears esd coats gloves,footstraps, wrist straps, and are grounded. They are also working on special esd flooring lol. So doesn't that just show the importance of following esd procedures when doing your own builds? Even when opening up or changing components. 89% of all our repairs have been due to 3rd party companies ie little so called repair shops claiming they are qualified repairsman that never followed esd procedures and charged those customers yet in few months their boards are destroyed. So they all land up unhappy customers because they are then classed as damaged. BR's beyond repair due to being damaged by electro static discharge that came off of a finger or hand. BER = BEYOND ECONOMICAL REPAIR. If electronic devices are worked on while not using esd procedures then 87% of those will eventually get problems and go into repair and all told they need another motherboard. The other 13% are just seriously lucky.

Very insightful! Yeah, I’m not sure what I could have done wrong in this situation as I definitely touched the metal of my case beforehand but this could have been one of those freak mishaps that can happen. Hasn’t happened to me since though!

@@RAVisuals oh good. Bit one touch of a motherboard without esd procedures being used can infact render your motherboard useless months later or even a year or years later depending on where the damage hit, ie the static shock.

@@RAVisuals in some cases people have been so lucky as its just hit and fried a component and as we knew that can just be changed. Just a few pounds on a esd mat wrist strap and plug can save people hundreds in not destroying part of their new builds

Hey RA Visuals, I really like your video and setup. It’s been days and I’m still currently struggling trying to figure out what’s wrong with my PC. I was gaming fine when my PC suddenly shut off and after taking the main components out of the case and thoroughly doing the standard POST tests, I found out that my motherboard will only run with CPU out. If I put back my CPU in with PSU and GPU connected, the fans and lights would go on for a second and shuts off completely. Any advice?
@kathauaaua54872 жыл бұрын
