That sort of thing has always bugged me a bit about EP’s story. In IS they make a big show about how “you shouldn’t forget your past” and “how you must accept your actions” and then in EP the characters who demonstrate those messages the most in IS IMMEDIATELY forget and don’t remember them again.

The PS1 English voice acting for this game is pretty wonky in places ngl, but there are some gems. One of Katsuya's win lines is "Can you apply the penal code to demons?" which is just so on brand and one of Ulala's intro lines is "Don't underestimate me you f*cking bastards" (There is an actual censor beep censoring the line) making her the first persona character to say fuck in a voice line. Iconic.

I remember back in the days when Atlus was trying to actually connect the games there was this head cannon that "shadows" from P3 and P4 came from the erased world, and the mayonaka channel was part of it. It also kind of links together the dates of the big reset with the accident of the P3 protagonist previous to the game events. There are also a lot of re-used themes in P3 that hint at the villain trying to recreate the oracle of Maia or a little side story from a Japanese magazine where Baofu was implied to be in charge of finding Ken's parents, Aegis being created by a company owned by Nanjo from Persona 1, Mitsuru (P3) and Nanjo (P1) being business partners, or even Philemon losing a lot of his power appearing only as a butterfly guide in Persona 3, 4, Q and Q2. It also meant that if Philemon ever regain his true form Nyarlo also would came back. Sadly, this may be left as nothing forever, because if we go by the official timeline most Persona 1/2 characters would now be 40-50 years old, and we know modern Persona games don't have adults in important roles.

I think also bc then at the end of innocent sin they try to make you think that Maya Okamura (ideal sensei) is the Mayan maiden who's going to die since she claims as much and knew about the Oracle of Maya and all and then just when you think you've averted the crisis--BAM, Maya Amano dies instead.

Um so, about other Persona games being about Tatsuya... There is a quite popular theory that The Reaper from modern Persona games is actually Tatsuya Sudou: Reaper has very similar clothes with Sudou, wears a bag mask, and not to mention it doesn't have one eye - the same eye that Sudou gets injured in both games. Basically theory says that Sudou became Reaper, which is a Shadow/Persona similar to how people in this game turned into Joker, or because he was mostly influenced by Nyarlothotep and thus turned into Shadow forever punished roaming around & looking for prey. Some people also theorise Reaper uses two guns because to Tatsuya Sudou, Maya was the person who ruined his life the most, so he decides to adapt her weapon of choice. So while it's not Tatsuya Suou, technically all modern Persona games have possibly connection/cameo of A Tatsuya.

The way PPSSPP handles saves is just like a real PSP. If you go into the settings, you can change the size of the memory card. Best thing is, since the PSP lets you access the memory card by plugging it in to a computer, you can easily transfer saves back and forth between the real system and the emulator

If this version is the same as the old ps1 version, there IS technically more content. The 7 sisters high bonus post game dungeon where you can choose whose in your party. Unfortunately you need to beat the game again, this time using Eri. After you've done that (beat the game going both the Nanjo then Eri route or vice versa) you should get an option that allows you to Play said dungeon where philemon is the boss, and he's arguably harder than Nyarlythotep.

Tatsuya Sudou, the Leo of the Masked Circle in the original, is named that because he’s meant to be a foil to MC Tatsuya. Sudou was blinded (literally) by his rage and thirst for revenge, but MC Tatsuya is incredibly apathetic and kind of just coasting through life. Both have the potential to go down a dark path, but one doesn’t, and that’s kind of the point. Tatsuzou was also mentioned in the original game as Sudou’s father, who considered his son worthless. He’s just named that, his son is the one with the thematic name relevance. Also, while both Tatsuyas were shown to be taken advantage of, Tatsuzou and many others in the new world purposefully took advantage of others. The main director, the artist, and the writer of both P2 games have stated that Innocent Sin was made to represent a child’s perspective of life, and Eternal Punishment an adult’s perspective. That’s why manipulation is everywhere, and that’s why Tatsuya was acting the way he did throughout this game: he was trying to act like an adult. One of the worst things adults regularly do (as this game shows) is push other people away, so as a result, Tatsuya was slowly isolating himself from everyone and diving deeper into his guilt and pain.

52:00 this is probably the hardest fight in the game but the reasons you give I don't really agree with. What makes it easier is knowing you can cancel the auto battle at any point and taking full advantage of the combat system, considering there are fusion spells that give party wide buffs (also learning that gaurd is broken but thats just a glitch iirc)

Also, the point of characters' names being alike IS a plot point in these games. Tatsuya/Katsuya Suou are similar just because they're brothers as well as Tatsuzou/Tatsuya Sudou being father and son. However, the two Tatsuyas having same name and similar sounding surname is intended as Sudou is kind of an "evil parallel" of Suou, it's especially made clear in Innocent Sin as Jun thought Tatsuya Suou killed Maya, when in truth it was Tatsuya Sudou. Not to mention the game also points out Sudou was a student in Seven Sisters. Now what comes to Takuya, it's likely to parallel how in IS world, Tatsuya Sudou attacked Tatsuya and Maya and in EP world his victim in same incident was a boy named Takuya, not to mention her sister sees him in Suou.

I finished this game with the starting personas, it’s not that difficult either, the metal trio isn’t a bad fight because Rng is involved. Rng is needed so a battle can have different situations and not the same predictable one especially in a game where it’s easy to revive and heal. There is a skill you can use to shield from insta kill, you can have persona which nullify both dark and light (pretty common in EP) more than anything you should use objects to raise the evasion or magic so you can kill the ones with insta kill faster. There are a lot of ways out and this game is consistently challenging as there is not enough XP to ever be overleveled, final boss is literally level 99 and you need to be prepared as fuck to face him. Anyway this game can become very easy with accessories to raise extra stats when leveling and using objects like mirrors. Also in the end game there are so many broken personas you can destroy everything even with underleveled party. If you think the P3 gameplay is fine but this is not then you are completely insane.

I played through the original Shin Megami Tensei Persona trilogy not too long ago and Eternal Punishment was the one where I got so confused that I feel like I still have zero idea what the actual story is lol And now here I am also replaying 3 and soon enough 4 thanks to them getting ported to Switch Could they maybe also get the Q duology and SMT IV + IV Apocalypse out of the 3DS exclusivity black hole. Four of the best games in the entire franchise and they dont deserve to stay exclusive on a dead console (unless. You know. Yo ho ho if it comes to that)
