My Personal Marvel Champions Buyer's Guide - [ I Wish I Had Done This! ]

I completely agree with the idea that the first thing you should add to your collection after the Core Set is Sinister Motives and its following wave. A while ago, while thinking about how to make the most out of the Core Set heroes by buying as few packs as possible, I realized that by just purchasing the Expansion Pack and SP//dr, you get to build the Captain Marvel Justice S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Iron Man Protection Tech decks almost entirely (and more than sufficiently enough for both of the to be very functionnal). Add to that Spider-Ham, that comes with lots of staples both in Justice and Neutral, and you are off to a great start. I would even advise to buy the 2 remaining heroes of this wave along with the Spider heroes, since Nova comes in Aggression with a lot of staples in that affinity as well, and Iron Heart is just a solid hero.

Agree with assessment of core box, I've found a new love for Leadership Iron Man using Tech Upgrades recently. Only one I dont enjoy is She-Hulk but I think thats more a disconnect with the character (owed to the terrible tv show) than her actual mechanics. I maintain Ultron is still the best villain in Marvel Champions

Hi! I am coming back to Champions after selling my whole collection. I like you recommendations since I don’t want to get The Red Skull box again, since I already played that one a lot before. However, I have a question. Sinister Motives comes with Protection and Justice player cards, and SP/DR and Spider Ham also come with Protection and Justice precons. Don’t you think it might be a “problem” getting so many cards of just 2 aspects?

I think that depends on your perspective. If you don't like Justice and Protection and don't enjoy the web warrior archetype that comes in basic, then I imagine that would be a problem. This video was specifically just my preference though, and for me, I like the web warrior basic package, and I really like the S.H.I.E.L.D. archetype that comes with Justice and basic. So I would be very satisfied with that. And having a complete S.H.I.E.L.D. and web-warrior archetype for me outweighs not getting a leadership or aggression pack. Another factor in this, is that I don't think the corebox cards are as incomplete as other people do. For instance, with just the core box cards I was able to defeat every villain on expert mode. And I was even able to use Iron-Man in solo to defeat Ultron on Expert with the Doomsday Chair modular. I find all of the aspects to be viable with the exception of protection in solo can be a bit rough with only the core box. So out of all the aspects to "fix", getting extra protection cards seems like the most valuable investment to me. The SP//dr pack comes with repurpose, energy barrier, and forcefield generator which is game changing for protection and especially iron man! And clarity of purpose also comes in the back of the SP//dr pack, which is a great card for leadership. I hope this explains a bit more of why I think the web-warriors would be what I would get if I were to redo it. But also, it's just my opinion. @ I do love protection and Spider people. Justice is just whatever. I get what you are saying. I have been playing just the Core Set for a while know, and it really surprised how robust it is. I even think that with another IP (one less prone to raise expectations infinite expansions) it would be considered a great game by itself! On my last time with the game I went straight to expansions because of the influence of internet wisdom (😅) and I now see I missed a lot. Anyway, I am sold. I’ll order SM and the other spiders right away. See you around :)

I'm pretty new to champions. I've had it for a while but only played it a handful of times. As it turns out, we actually have bought the core and then the Sinister Motives. The biggest issue with this game is just managing all the cards and sets and setting up before playing. You mentioned modulars, I haven't heard that term, can you explain what they are and how they differ from the packs? Was the Hood that you showed when talking about modulars not just a hero pack?

Glad to hear you are getting into champions! Regarding Storage: That is definitely a factor to this game. Finding a storage method that lets you find everything is really important in my opinion. For me I use one box for everything and use white dividers to separate sets. Regarding Modulars: Modular sets go into the encounter deck. They are called modular because they are interchangeable. So in the core box, rhino comes with Bomb Scare, and Klaw comes with Masters of Evil. You can switch these though. You could play Rhino with Masters of Evil and Klaw with bomb scare. Mixing and matching modulars is something you can do to mix up the scenarios, create thematic encounters, or adjust the difficulty. For instance, if you are struggling with Ultron you may want to switch his very difficult modular set (Under Attack) with Bomb Scare to make his encounter deck easier. The Hood is a scenario pack. He is a special villain that uses many modular sets. He comes with 9 modular sets that you can mix and match with different villains to change the encounter and they are all very well themed to go with sinister motives! For instance, one of the modular sets comes with Shocker, which you could throw in with Sandman or any other villain to have an even more spider themed matchup! The Hood also comes with Standard II, which is a more difficult version of the Standard set. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions, either on here or in discord! -Stay Zesty

Interesting video. I started out with getting the Heros I wanted. I have a question about Spider Ham this is a character I do not have interest in. But my question is does he come with cards that might be considered a must for or that will make other heros better? Have you ever thought about doing a vodeo on for example. If you have Hulk (or who ever) and want to make him better get this expansion for this card ir cards?

@@douglaspearson4853 spider ham has great cards for justice in general and web warriors! And that’s a good video idea. I’ve thought about it, but I haven’t got around to it. If you check out the original buyers guide I made it is a lot more detailed and discusses that but from a different angle.
