Peter Criss is the reason I got into drumming...after hearing 100,000 Years, I was hooked. I love playing older KISS songs, particularly Detroit Rock City, but I think one of the most difficult songs to play is Almost Human. To all the wannabe Neil Peart's out there who think Peter sucked....I doubt any of them have played in front of hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of fans and played on gold and platinum selling albums. Peter may not be the best drummer ever, but he is definitely one of the coolest and deserves respect.

Man do I sooo appreciate you showing just what an intricate drummer is Peter Criss. Plus he played hard and had endurance of a beast. Many, many thanks for taking the time to show this! Keep rockin' brother.

Heh, I JUST commented on the other video about how my drum teacher taught it to me this way. I didn't know it was actually the way Criss played it, I just thought it was a variant. But adding the hi-hat makes it a little more shuffley, and again, for anyone that thinks this isn't 'that' complicated, it's not - but playing it well is an entirely different beast. There are so many drum beats that can be played note for note, but not have the feel, which is what Criss excelled at here. Bonham was the same way, a lot of what he played wasn't overly intricate, but the way he played it made it shine.

Criss was a Monster drummer up to Alive 2. His swing style and jazz background brought alot to the early Kiss sound. Always loved his little ghost notes he adds in certain songs. Dressed to kill and Destroyer are his best albums in my opinion.

Had to watch this one too! Great job listening to your viewers. Shows you care about getting it right. I have always loved Peter Chris’s drumming. I’m 54 and I’ve been listening to kiss since my brother brought home kiss alive back in late 75 or early 76.

Very cool, thanks for pointing this out!! Shows how much natural swing Peter Criss had; remember, that Gene Krups was one of his favorite drummers..........👍🥁🎶🥁👌

Great video, I was also surprised by the complexity of that part when I had to play it. Took a lot of practice to do it decently.

Nice to have seen both of your videos on Peter Criss' drumming techniques on 100,000 Years. Shows that Peter has talent even though others may disagree. Love to see you tackle Eric Carr in a future drum video

Nice! My ears might be playing tricks on me, but I think there's a similar thing going on in the verses in Detroit Rock City, but there's a hi hat bark as well. Can't hear it in the solo and stuff, he pulls back there to let the other things shine. Pretty cool beat if you ask me.

Great to see some love for the one n only catman Mr Peter Criss! He took lessons from a drum legend by the name of Gene Krupa, definitely has a jazzy flavor to his playing. Pete is great! Great singer to.

As someone born in 2000 I shouldn't have much reason to care about Kiss yet I do. So I noticed and appreciate how every now and then you'll plug some respect for them. The first line-up especially is very musically interesting when you start looking close. A cool vid idea would be trying to emulate the subtle differences between Ace Frehley and Tommy Thayer's soloing. Thayer is seen as clone to many, but I wonder if you can find stuff in the same solos that Frehley did better, or even stuff that Tommy does better.

People who knock Peter Criss for his drumming have not a clue. What was wrong with his performance on Kiss Alive? Nothing that I heard. That wasn't a true Live Album because everyone of the members had to go back into the studio and fix a lot of their mistakes. But Peter Criss didn't have to fix a single cymbal crash. Kiss Alive wasn't a true Live Kiss album, but it was a true Live Peter Criss Album. His drum work on Destroyer, Rock N Roll Over, and Love Gun were excellent as well. My Favorite drummers are Jazz drummers. Peter Criss learned nearly everything from Gene Krupa. And nobody is running around saying that he sucked!"

Also the Detroit Rock City is not just that beat continuously through There is the 3 snare hits in a row mixed in during the verses and other variations to the main beat

You're exactly right!...the verse shuffle is a bit different...two big hits on snare at beginning of each phrase (two hits are on the "feel up"..."9 o' ", "hear my" getting in sync with lyric phrases)

Thanks for a great video. Peter Criss and Jerry Nolan of the New York Dolls were best friends and students of Gene Krupa. They are/were superior drummers. Every bit of what they did was taste and style. All the haters and doubters can sit in the corner and shut up because you will never be good enough to kiss the platform shoe of either one of those guys. 👢💄💋
