That exceeds her botanical knowledge. Since plants produce it to attract ants that will protect the plant from herbivors there‘s no way to reduce the production. The only way to remove it is by showering the plant or using a wet paper towel and removing it manually

I dont think you can really limit the amount of them in plants. From my understanding, it's in their DNA, and while you could get rid of them in hybridization, they're there for a reason. But I definitely would watch a video on this! Good suggestion.

@@jhndr0nia that explanation never sat well with me. Ants farm both scale and aphids, why would philodendron want to attract even more ants? Ants on a plant usually mean trouble. Unless the ants in rainforest behave differently than in gardens ;)

@@horace6851 Either they behave differently in the tropics as you said and the aphids/scales need to be present on the plant before ants start to protect them and farm them. But I don't think, it makes a difference for ants whether they get the sugars directly from the plant or through pests and they can't have both at the same time. So I assume if they already get food from the plant, they would rather protect their safe food source instead of starting to protect occuring pests on the same plant

hi kaylee, can you do an episode about best plant apps that you use or have tried, or teach us how to be more efficient in managing our plants and what must be done? i'm interested to know and be on top of things because i have things to do like remember to repot a plant in x weeks, and water alternate days and everyday for different plants. i would want to separate that from the work calender in google, so an app would be the best, i think? but then again i've not come across a suitable one yet. can you share how you manage watering and repotting?

My orange marmalade is about the same size as yours. Leaves are larger though. She was $120 here in Texas. Not super cheap.

That's a good price for a plant that size. To be fair, Kaylee deals in plants that can be 4 figures or more, so anything low three-figures is more affordable than that.

The leaves on my orange marmalade is almost 4ft and thoroughly varigated and hardly turns back into the dark green. All the other plants have died on me ...atleast i am winning in one. 😂
