Emma, the front mount hitch needs a) be above the waterline, and b) you need to use sealant in the holes, under the plate, and under the washers. If you don’t do this, the hull will rott! When you reposition the hitch, fill the holes with thickened Epoxy!
@tomhobbies68887 сағат бұрын
Always put that type of thing well above the waterline . As it will loosen with use and leak if it's below the water line. Love the vids Later

A bonus of a white roof is that it will keep the boat much cooler inside.

Sitting in my bus in Arizona aka 105 degree sun, procrastinating the hell out of this roof raise. Almost half way there, hanging sheet metal. Watching someone else work helps me work. Already blew through the series on Birbie, thanks for the motivation! Ahhh back to it...

Every KZbinr seems to find a sweet spot for subscribers, likes, and supporters over time. Same with viewers. My preference is builders of off grid homesteads mostly, then builders of overland off grid vehicles like buses which brought me to you. Then world sailors, and what you are doing now. I travel and camp so that doesn't interest me much since I have done it from motorcycles to motor homes. I am guessing that most of your followers are similar to me, so can't wait to see where you go next. Watching you float on lakes may be interesting for a bit, but your developing building skills are what make your channel. I love your insecurity but learn and get it done attitude. I should also mention that even old guys like cute and well put together other than just the project... 🙄 😎

FYI - that router baseplate assembly is basically a tube. The router itself will move up and down within that tube thereby exposing more or less of the router bit depending on your needs.

Your boat house is looking awesome Emma. If the white roof bothers you, you could always stencil some greenery/flowers/sea life etc on it.

You're doing a great job Emma! I do hope your to-do list includes "Navigation Lights". I don't know about your state but most every state I've been in, they're mandatory. Even if you have no plans to be running on the water at night. As a wise old man once said, "Doo-Doo Occurs"!!!
@donnydavinci17726 сағат бұрын
Awesome job! Maybe solar panels for the roof? It'd be nice to have a source of power on the boat.
@nothere71985 сағат бұрын
You could always do a faux round shingle look with paint. Simple pattern and a spray gun if you're comfortable that way. And, being paint, if you don't like it, just paint over it again !

As mentioned, the front hitch mount needs to be above the water line. There are a few issues having it below but the biggest is when you want to hook the strap to the boat the pull it back onto the trailer you'll have to dive under the bow to place the hook.

The boat is looking good Emma, maybe you can make some kind of stencil to make the faux shingles and use different colors. I am looking forward to seeing it on the water.
@DeAnnaG_KissingFrogsMedia6 сағат бұрын
yeah, like sponge dapple some soft greys or browns and then do a darker shade to create the scallop shaped shingle edges.
@nothere71985 сағат бұрын
hehe... beat me to it, I agree a faux shingle look might be the solution.

I am in the process of building my own boat (Tahiti Wayfarer 21). I feel your pain. I've already had a test run with mine though, and I can promise you, having it on the water for the first time will make it all worth it :)
@BlueSparrow13Сағат бұрын
for the router, you should be able to adjust the depth of the bit by adjusting the plastic base piece. Short of that you could .ount some ply the the bottom
@tobiasn65918 сағат бұрын
Right before bed time. Perfect. Not because you are boring but you are so calm and this calms me down too🙃greetings from germany if you wonder about bedtime. BTW: normally you need no shorter bit because you can loosen the plate and push it down.

Check with your state but most do not require registration until you add an engine. So you could float test it an row around a lake for a weekend, then add the motor an controls later. You could paint on shingles, use thin paneling board or use foam insulation board an paint it. Boat looks good Emma.

Still too far back…on the flat in front, above the water line, would be better, IMHO. Patch the holes with epoxy and bits of dowel. (And of course I realize my comments are moot as you have already done all this.) Great job on the boat, BTW. You should feel very proud and accomplished! Don’t forget, paint will not cure over silicone. 😬
@tonysutton65595 сағат бұрын
If your router can't be moved up and down within the base mounting, you could always use double sided tape our hot glue to fix a bit of 1/2 inch ply as a secondary base and have less of the bit exposed.

If the round shingles are just decorative you could think about using the thin clear cutting boards from the dollar tree cut them to shape, then use a light coat of roofing tar or caulk underneath then and staple them. it would be time consuming, but wouldn't add much weight and if done right may add an extra layer of sheathing to the roof. over time mold may be an issue but that could be true with many materials.

Okay, stupid idea, and you can totally laugh at me. But do a fake terracotta roof. Give the boat a "sunset" color scheme vibe. Cut PVC tubing in half (lengthwise) and paint it orange/terracotta. Then pop it up there like Spanish roof tile, but WAY lighter in weight. No more white, and I bet no one else has that! (I felt I had to share that idea, it just popped into my head and it seems crazy enough that you'd like it)

Large washers under the nuts to help spread the load or those nuts will start to migrate in to the wood. Could have been more forward too, but overall the project is coming along really well!

So your pull out eye location has a lot to do with where it causes the boat to stop once it's on the trailer. The eye will sit in or really close to the bow stop. Too far back and the boat dangles off the back, too close and the bow hits your truck on tight turns.

5:40 I over think things and still screw it up. Not in the screwing up the project so much as over thinking it and in the process of attempting plan A, realize there's a much better way and ALL the stuff I just bought for doing it was a useless waste of money. Hopefully I can get money back on it but I also have a weird history of using everything I buy in error for something else so..... Maybe I'm just buying for a few projects ahead?
