Alaskan fan here. I genuinely hope everyone weathered the storm without any loss of life, limb, or property. The devastation in western N. Carolina is tremendous and all-encompassing, and we hope you are all well and will continue to be into the future. Best of luck and best wishes to the whole crew!!

I'm in southwest Virginia and that storm was awful... I had a tree fall hit the side of my house and crushed my back porch and luckily it didn't destroy all of my wood working tools... It almost crushed my car that i had in the driveway.. i got off easy a lot of people down here are still without power and trees down everywhere. My work is sending people 2 hours up the road to help with cleanup around the community near 1 of our facilities

I know you all were talking about the worst case scenario of having a deck fall off your house... but that happened to me! When I was a kid our next door neighbor had a party on their 2nd-story deck when we heard a big crack and the whole thing collapsed. One guy was paralyzed, I broke my ankle badly. And it was from exactly what you mentioned - the framing of the deck wasn't well secured to the house, fasteners rusted, and... boom. So +100 to the advice you're giving on that front!

This is a selfish question as PBB is my favorite channel on KZbin, and not having videos on Thursdays and Sundays is a big disappointment for me (and likely a million other subscribers): The question I pose surrounds the future of this project and the delays you will face in getting to the job site, to having power (thank goodness for your generators), for the concrete batch plant, for the companies that supply all of the materials, and for the homeowners (and so much more). I expect that you will put together an update video at some point in time, fairly soon, where you give us an update and let us know how we can help you all. I will faithfully watch the videos you put out, Eric, probably twice, and if it’s months of cutting trees and helping neighbors get their homes repaired, I’m in.

Hey guys, better check that those Grade 8 bolts are ok. We typically don’t use those for structural steel, they are too brittle. Structural bolts are A325.

Hey guys, try spraying WD 40 on the bit while you're drilling. It will help displace the heat. Allowing you to drill the hole faster and extend the life of your drill bit's sharpness.

If you guys are going to keep working with steel, you may want to invest in one of those mag drills - an electromagnet holds the drill firmly in place, and then it works like a drill press you can set in any direction. I've seen people use them as core-drills to get through concrete also like if you forgot to bring a sewer line inside your foundation.... I've even seen them drill through stone - someone will fabricate a steel bracket to hold the drill as it makes the hole. I know Jesse Muller has one now... and I think Jake Rosenfeld has one - in case you wanted to see one at work. Great to see you all okay after this storm... and that you are back hard at work, like usual. Thanks for sharing so much of your lives with us.

@benjaminreinhardt2597 сағат бұрын
That catch at the end of drilling steel can be avoided. You can feel/hear when the bit is about to punch through, at that point reduce the pressure you are pushing on the drill. It will slide right through the steel then without snatching your wrist. Drill a couple hundred holes and you get the feel for it.

Borrow a mag drill. And use some cutting fluid. Been there, burned up drill bits. And a long right angle handle on the drill saves broken hand bones. 😢 Just a question, but do you brush and blow out your concrete drill holes for the epoxy? You dont show this, but if you don't your bond is to the dust not the solid concrete. Another lesson learnt the hard way. Watching from NZ. Learn a lot from what you do.

7:20 better tip: get a heavy duty drill which typically comes with a clutch that auto-releases when it gets caught... I did so myself, after I first got my drill randomly stuck during a simple hole saw cut, which almost broke my wrist, and the second time, shortly after the first incident, it slammed me the battery pack in my face... I usually can pack a punch, but that made me go down the ladder and sit it out for a few minutes... Oh boy...

Instagram would support that too, I’m sure y’all could get a ton of money towards recovery efforts. I’d also gladly buy a recovery styled Perkins shirt if the proceeds went to that.
