My Porsche Cayenne Is broken!

It was all going so well, but the big bill for my porsche cayenne turbo s has finally arrived and I don't know what do do! Should I fix the timing chain or sell it on with the issue disclosed? If I fix it I'll need to sell some cars to afford the repair. There's no good option here, it's just a question of how much financial pain I can tolerate.
What should I do? Let me know in the comments!

Option 3. Fix it yourself and document it in the channel. Loads of videos about it out there. Push come to shove, if you can’t fix it yourself. Sell as “needing timing chain, parts included”.

Another thing, do the fluid services yourself its pretty easy following videos on how to...also i think i really appreciated and understood my cayenne way more after i started to do the work myself, i did my valve cover gaskets and found a coolant leak from behind the engine block, installed new exhaust system, i have put quite a bit of money into it (mostly cosmetic mods) but driving it everyday is a lot of fun.

Dude I love this. I have bought the worst maintained 955 turbo. When I went to look at it I could not believe how bad it was and I wanted to save it it. I should have walked away. It has been a love hate relationship for me ever since. Today is the first day that it has not had an engine light come on and and all the warning lights are cleared. Victory! But for how long? I do not care. It is great to have an unloved Porsche back on the road for another day!

You’re in a similar situation to me. I own a BMW E70 X5, which is known for timing chain issues. A common preventative thing to do is replace the chain, whilst you’re there you’d get transfer case and diffs serviced. In addition you’d get the EGR sorted, and so on… for X5 owners there is a very well known specialist (X5 Engineering) which sort these issues at a great price, but still an investment. Best bet is to see what specialists are out there for the Porsche and see what the next steps are. At the end of the day, both cars are just cars at the end of the day. 👍

Yank on the door handle hard a few times and cycle the locks. The door latches go bad on these cars and have a hard time cycling between lock and unlock. Keep it!

I’ll give that a try, the car does need a new timing chain and I don’t think it’s worth spending more money on it unfortunately.

If you get the work done on the chain, there will be so many parts that a decent indie would advise on replacing whilst you are in there which makes the bill a lot bigger.

Yeah lots of gaskets, belts etc. I’d sort the boost leak, and get the valve covers sorted as well. Basically if I’m going to do this, I’m going to full ass it.

It really depends on which car you love more. Is it the Punto which has sentimental value for you, or is it the Cayenne which is an awesome car to drive and own. Spend your hard earned money on the car you love the most and scrap the other one.

You know you should really get a 2nd opinion on those codes. I found that on mine when i did any work on it and the battery had been disconnected after restart i would get some weird codes and i would be the type to order the parts and invest all this money thinking that i would fix the issues right away and then after a few drives before fixing the codes everything would be fine and the codes would not return.
@Project40Cars
@Project40Cars 6 ай бұрын
I definitely will, I’m hoping it’s a valve timing solenoid rather than a stretched chain but as it’s been the Xmas/new year period all the shops have been closed so I’ve been stuck with the issue and no explanation 🥲 The battery is about a month old and so it should be fine though.

Think of why you bought it in the first place and how it performed in the first place. Do you want that in your life? It is still a bloody Porsche. Supercar brand and performance, yet practical in real life. I get the sentiment and nostalgia of the Punto but it is not that same car and sometimes it’s best to keep the good memories and move on. You are deciding at a low point and might regret selling it for peanuts later on when you think back at it. Because you bought it cheap and are giving up so soon on it. It’s a beautiful spec, it’s a first gen top of the line. I was quite jealous when I first saw your video. In our market these cars (turbo S) have gone up in value. It’s tough that it happened so soon but given their reliability, I’d chance it to fix it up now so you can enjoy it for a longer time.

Sadly, when you come to sell it as buyers will not pay a price that reflects these repairs. Yes, you’ve lost money (and we’ve all been there) having made some mistakes, that’s life unfortunately. However, you could be just throwing good money after bad because the next time something goes wrong and you’re already so far into it you’re probably going to feel you have no choice but to keep going😮

Man it's not a nice situation to be in. I've been there myself. I have a Porsche Cayenne turbo 2004 which I'm having the water pump done at AAT performance Telford.. I had my car for a year yes it's not cheap but I love it. How I see it if you were going to keep it for a year or two then ok spend the money. If you can't afford it then don't do it sometimes you have to let go. There are not many KZbin videos on Porsche Cayenne turbos there are all American lol. All the very best and good luck with the utube!!

Problem is you've got a very high spec Turbo S in a fabulous non black colour which is also high mileage. If you fix the timing chain issue at great expense then what is the next problem going to be? The car is worth £X amount fixed, but would you be better cutting your losses and getting a 957 diesel or a 3.6 V6 957 and seeing if there's a sweet spot that you can financially live with. 958 Diesels are starting around the £10,000 mark now.

You’re between a rock and a hard place…selling the car with the error will mean you take a big hit, repair it and it’s a big bill on a car that’s still not worth that much. I think you need to get some proper quotes so you can make an informed decision. I had similar with my 335i last year; BMW diagnosed an issue I had as worn cam ledges which the extended warranty refused to cover leaving me with the possibility of a £4k bill on a car worth maybe £7k. A local indy had the car and got it working for a whole lot less.
@Project40Cars
@Project40Cars 6 ай бұрын
💯I’m awaiting some quotes but I think I’ll need to get the car transported over there before we will really know. If I do get it done I’ll keep the car forever and go mad max off road spec I suspect.

Very difficult decision to make. These V8 luxury cars are always a minefield. So... I would play it safe, and sell it on. You can have just as much fun and satisfaction with cars just as special for half the price. It'll take some time to recoup but your channel is growing nicely.👍🏻
