A big one with these that people don't talk about enough is the transmission torque converter seal. When the coolant pipes fail (or during replacement), coolant will run into the bell housing and find its way onto this seal. With the immense heat in this area, it will harden into a nasty white substance which will eat up the seal and cause a transmission fluid leak. Fixing this generally requires removal of the entire drivetrain from the car, which as you can imagine is a massive and costly job. There is also some anecdotal evidence to suggest that burned exhaust valves are not too uncommon. Not only will that warrant an engine removal, but the head(s) will need to come off.
@Project40Cars11 ай бұрын
That'a a good tip, so far the transmission seems to be ok (famous last words), but I do need to get a fluid change done soon.

I bought a cayenne turbo 955 about 8 months ago, I've drove 30,000 miles without any problems. I bought from an older guy who couldn't afford to run it anymore, paid the correct amount of money for it and seems like I got a good one so far. The only issue was the main carrier bearing went on the prop shaft (20yr old car so wear and tear) and I used a clever jimmy fix I saw online which saved me about £600. Absolutely love the car, fully loaded V8 Porsche turbo for £5,00, bargain

I've had to deal with the coolant pipes. I got coolant everywhere. A year after it was fixed, at my expense as I wasn't original owner, the coolant rotted out the transmission seal. That was expensive. U joints are watch point. There are better aftermarket U-joints. If you're on the look out for a 955 look for rare off road package or Turbo S.

Can you attempt to fix the panoramic sunroof, i have the same issue you have the blind wont open or close and neither will the sunroof
@Project40Cars Жыл бұрын
It's on the list to try in the spring, with the wet weather I am kinda scared to attempt a fix and have it stuck open. For the blind, have you tried resetting it (hold the blind close button for 20 seconds and switch ignition to acc), it should extend. There are three motors, one in the front for the blind and two in the rear for the pano roof. There are three manual releases. If you have a code scanner like an icarsoft por 2/3 you can scan the sunroof and see what the issue is.

Hi, I bought a 2004 V6 Cayenne, which at the moment I'm happy with apart from the fuel economy and the relative hard ride. I have 275x35x22" wheels, I've bought some wheels what can accommodate 255x55x18" which I'm hoping that will solve the ride problem. Recently we had snow and I thought now would be a good time to test the 4 wheel drive by the way mine is a manual Transmission with a recently new battery and I have a full air installation which works good. So to get on with my problem, I started the engine made sure that it was in neutral and hand brake on, toggled the lever forward and waited for the relevant light to come on, the only thing I got was a message in the middle of the cluster telling me make sure I was in neutral with the handbrake on. I have tried it on several occasions and have received the same message. I suspect a an electrical contact some where. Is there any information you could give on the problem.
@Project40Cars2 ай бұрын
The car will ride so much better on 18s. Regarding the lack of diff locking etc, you’d need to scan the car and see what codes come up. Could be transfer case related (either connections, the transfer case module etc). If your car has a sun roof, check the drains aren’t blocked. Also check the wiring that runs along under the door sills for breaks etc.

A very interesting video as I too am looking into 955 Cayenne's! I want one to stick my roof tent on and to enjoy a little more offroad capability than my E Class estate, haha! What kind of price would you say is right for a vehicle from say 2005 to 2008?
@Project40Cars4 ай бұрын
Thanks, it was a my first try at a buyers guide 😁 It really depends on condition. The cars can do the mileage but I would focus on the service history. Making sure that there are lots of invoices that show the car has been taken care of. You can spend as little at £1500 on a Cayenne but that is dangerous price point imo. A 955 turbo will have less chance of bore score, but they are more expensive. Any of the versions will still be pricey to run. I’d budget at least £2k for servicing in the first year, up to £5k in some instances. I definitely want to own another Cayenne at some point as they are genuinely great cars, i just had bad luck with the one I picked.

If I'm looking at a car that's for sale and the engine bay is dirty it would be hard for me to know whether oil that's you know let's say near the filler cap is just overflow from improper filling or if it's from a leak personally I would prefer a clean engine that I can then take on a long test drive and then see if leaks develop during my test drive then having an absolutely dirty engine bay and I can't see where anything might have been coming from or if it's just messy feeling.
@Project40Cars2 ай бұрын
That’s fair, though getting a long test drive is pretty rare in my experience (for both private & dealer sales).
@richw66902 ай бұрын
@Project40Cars I've sold both privately and at a shop. When Private I'd go with customers as long as they put gas LoL! And at the shop we let them take it to their mechanic even giving them a demo plate as long as they put down a deposit and if the mechanic doesn't find issue the deposit goes towards purchase. If the mechanic doesn't find issue they really have no reason not to buy right? Win win 🙂 We usually inspect our vehicles and do repairs before we put them for sale because we sell with a limited warranty.
