Hi Kassi, I’m 31 weeks pregnant and my doctor called me today telling me that I have preeclampsia. I have a history of PE ( pulmonary embolism) and I’m on lovenox that I have to inject 100mg twice a day, and this new situation is scaring me. I had this weird headache a few days ago that lasted for 2 days. My blood pressure was 130/74 when I went to the doctor yesterday but today it was consistent with a reading of 116/70. I started to watch videos about preeclampsia and came across yours. Thank you for sharing your experience, it really gives me hope.

Thanks for sharing. Gave birth less than 48 hours ago and currently dealing with this. It’s so scary and frustrating not knowing why your body is doing this. In fact, my BP kept rising even after my third dose of medicine. Right when I was supposed to be released from the hospital, it spiked again and I had to stay longer. Sending love to all mamas dealing with this.

Hi all, hope you are doing well. I had postpartum eclampsia with my daughter. Just after 6 days she was born it happened. It started with a horrible headache, then my blood pressure spiked and I lost vision of my right eye temporarily. Then had seizures and became unconscious. My family rushed me to the hospital and I thank them everyday for doing that. They saved my life. It’s been years now but I can never forget how horrible the whole experience was.

It makes me so sad to hear so many stories of how many people this happens to and the scary outcomes. I am SO thankful your family took you to the hospital when they did and saved your life. I had postpartum preeclampsia too and was readmitted a few days after my baby and I were discharged. This is a great video and I think raising awareness about this is a must.. I am also a nurse by the way, so your story sounds SO MUCH like mine, minus the symptoms you had. The only symptoms I experienced was a headache/dizziness that would go away after eating or sleeping therefore it was hard to pinpoint whether it was related to hypertension. My pressures in triage were in the 200s SBP 110s diastolic; the highest it’s ever been. I was shocked considering my BPs during pregnancy were all normal. I went home on nifedipine and am still taking it, but trying to wean myself off of it. I hope I can be off of it soon. ❤ Anyways, great video again!

I am in this situation I am on the lowest dose. I am 9 weeks post partum and am praying I can get off meds. I get really shaky and wonder if I am going to low. But then when I take it in the evening it is either good or slightly elevated. My morning numbers are usually better. I find my bottom number is the one sitting too high. The top number is usually really good. No idea if anyone else deals with this. I have had no issues with blood pressure ever before. This is baby number 5. I had to have a crash c section.

Thank you for telling your story. I had a very similar experience however my situation was a bit more severe. But I can totally relate to the feeling of just wanting to be home but also nervous. I too thought I was going to die in the car on the way to the hospital. My mom was also my companion. I was released from the hospital with my BP still high but they let me go home. I was induced at 37 weeks ( 4th baby) with high BP as my only symptom. I did give natural childbirth with her and my BP just was not getting better. I went home and within 24 hours I woke up and felt awful and we raced to the hospital. I was there for almost 7 days! Every day I would pray my BP would come down and every day they had to make an adjustment to my meds and give is 24 more hours. I was on 3-4 meds when I came home and weaned myself off one by one until I was on the lowest dose which I am still on BP meds now almost 4 years later. Thank you again for sharing and yes it was a horrible experience. I had the most amazing nurses too!

I’ve never had someone describe how I felt in such detail with my post eclampsia and I don’t even mean the physical signs and symptoms. Two days after I gave birth to my Angel baby at 26 weeks I literally crawled into my husbands vehicle on my hands and knees I felt so odd and as if I was on the outside looking in at myself. I did not have swollen legs or protein in my urine. I didn’t have any issues with the pregnancy aside my child had Trisomy 18 severely. I’ve given natural, unmedicated and unassisted (at hospital though) births prior to my other children. My bp was so high that my heart began having major issues. I never had medical issues like this prior in my life. It was just a traumatic experience overall for me to the point I want another child, but I don’t want to go through that ever again. I would not wish it upon my worst enemy. I gave birth to a baby who passed and two days later I was fighting for my own life. That was two years ago. It took me 8 months to begin feeling better completely and still to this day I experience spurs of bp spikes or that strange head sensation, not so much a headache but as if you spun around to long and all the blood went to your head. Thankfully it doesn’t happen often. Still I’m so glad your making this aware to others.
@KassiReyes

Wow, what a hard road you took. It has been two years for me too and I still feel a lot of intense emotions around that traumatic experience. Hi momma, I am so sorry you are going through this. I know that feeling of just wanting to stay home and be healthy for your baby. Hi. Watched your story and it was like I was re living my post birth period. My gynae discharged me even thou I told her I'm not well, i was terribly swollen and my bp was high.. Once I got to my mums home, that night when I got to bed at last, I lay down and I just couldn't not breath. Hubby checked my BP which was 180 /90 ... thankfully we called a different gynecologist at 1am, who told me to go to casualty immediately. He met us there and checked my reflexes...they were very brisk. He immediate transferred me into high care. My blood pressure spiked to 200/100 and I thought at that moment I was dying. They managed to bring it down , hooked up the magnesium drip and yes...it was horrible. Feeling miserable, needing to pee all the time, dizzy if I needed to walk, blood pressure spiking and dropping...i was horrified. I’m currently going this now I was post 16 days postpartum when I was readmitted to the hospital after my first postpartum doctor appointment very traumatic situation because it has never happened to me. Got to hospital they tried to start iv but it blew they said your pressure is so high that it’s not letting us get a iv long story short they ended up getting a iv and started the magnesium right away and that experience ugh something I don’t want to experience again just not able to control your body along with just feeling horrible from the magnesium I just wanted to go home but I knew it was for my safety so I just relaxed and let it do it’s job but I was counting down the hours until they stopped it. I think that magnesium stayed in my system for 2 days so I just tried to sleep it off which was rough because of the fear of falling asleep thinking something was going to happen in my sleep but I just prayed and fell asleep best sleep I had. I reached out to one of the providers at my clinic and he also seen me at the hospital before I was discharged and recommend me to up my increase my blood pressure medicine so I’ll see if that will work. Praying that it does I just wanna get back to myself so I can take care of myself better and kids. Good luck ladies

I had no symptoms for pregnancy pre-e (twice) & postpartum pre-e. If not for regular pre & postnatal care, I would never have know. I later developed hypertension during menopause, despite being a runner with healthy diet & weight.My OBGYN, shockingly, . I am incredibly lucky that it was picked up by my migraine specialist during a routine visit. My BP is now about 130/85 with meds. With peripartum & postpartum pre-e, I had NO symptoms. For my 1st, I had pre-e at 39.5 wks then postpartum. I went on mag 3 hrs after admission. I pushed for 5 1/2 hrs, then had an emergency c-sec because he was stuck & stats dropping, while mine were climbing. I was really out of it, dizzy, spinning room, hard to focus my eyes but I’d had Stadol plus IV antibiotics, & other stuff so it might not have been the mag. Because we were mistakenly discharged a day early, a visiting nurse (VNA) came 2 days after discharge (5 days postpartum). I felt fine except normal c-sec pain. The VNA took my BP twice & it was right around 200/110. The OB on-call insisted I go to the ER immediately since I was at a very high risk for seizure & stroke. I couldn’t even go upstairs to pack a diaper bag! Once we arrived at the ER by car (I refused an ambulance), I was immediately taken to a ER room & put on a monitor & IV. ER doc examined me right after, told me to stay in bed, ordered labs, & paged OB. My labs weren’t good & my urine was very high for protein. OB confirmed postpartum pre-e & insisted I be admitted to go back on mag & be monitored, though our babe could stay with me since I was nursing. I couldn’t stand to be re-admitted, so I was put on oral BP meds & monitored in the ER for a few hours. I was put on 8 days of strict bedrest, then follow-up with my midwife (CNMW). I stayed on the BP meds for 6 wks. With #2, again no symptoms but this time pre-e at 25 weeks. More strict bedrest but now for 12 weeks (with a 2 yr old!). I had to regularly log my BP and have stress tests, u/s, & MW visits 2x every other week until 30 weeks, then 3x weekly until delivery. Since they don’t induce for a VBAC, my MW & the OB planned a repeat c-sec at 36 weeks. They kept pushing the c-sec off for a few days, until deciding they had to deliver #2 at 37.5 wks. The day before my c-sec, I went into labor! All that went wrong with #1 went right with #2. Another hyper-rapid labor & close monitoring, but no mag!!, encouraged to rest despite being fully dilated while babe naturally descended (& thus didn’t get stuck like #1). Only 20 min of pushing vs. 5+ hrs, and VBAC with my MW & no OB instead of the emergency c-sec. I still had more frequent MW follow-ups because of the postpartum pre-e risk. The biggest issue I had with mag was the catheter and not being allowed out of bed for 24 hrs after they stopped it, which for me was about delivery. I don’t know how I felt because the Stadol already made me hazy, not to mention contractions every 90 seconds (I’m not kidding). The answer is to have regular postpartum follow-ups rather than just 6 wks because pre-e often has no symptoms other than high BP & protein in the urine, but that’s not how it’s done in the US. I was oddly lucky; if I hadn’t been discharged early with #1, they may not have caught it since my BP was a little high but still normal on discharge.

Wow, just getting a chance to read through your story. Thank you so much for sharing and making other parents and families ware of how differently this can show up, even for the same person in different pregnancies. 100% agree that earlier postpartum follow up is a must and could be such a life saver. I have found myself dealing with a lot of residual stress and trauma that I have been holding in my body since my own experience (2.5 years later) this is such a scary thing to go through. Hi Jaya, I am so sorry you hard this negative experience happen to you just after having your baby. I can definitely relate to the worry and anxiety. I am sure you are doing an amazing job for your baby, you are all that your baby knows and needs. Sometimes it can be hard to have confidence when you are new to something as big a parenthood, and then when you get off to a rough start with preeclampsia it can make it even harder to stay in good spirits. It really does get easier, but if you continue to have negative thoughts and worries that seem to get in the way of your every day activities or of taking care of your baby, please don't hesitate in seeking professional help, talk to your OB/midwife/therapist. Your mental health is very important for you and your baby to thrive.

I can completely sympathize...my story with my hospital is a nightmare, I thought my daughters birth was scary until I had my son 17 years later. I know the trauma of the post eclampsia but, to add to that having pushed out a foley catheter during active push that was holding back my urine for hours prior, (when I had to come back for post eclampsia all the nurses were buzzing about how I was the kne who pulled the cath out, my husband was fumed about this lie because, he clearly watched the whole situation since he had my leg, he said this is not right how are they lying about this you pushed it out along with blood and urine.) Then had have my son then turned in the canal because, he was now distosia and I completely blame that on a full bladder and displaced cath. and having no room to turn properly on top of being a bigger baby but, once he was moved he can right down. Then ASAP I was treated for sepsis which they blamed on meconium, again I have a feeling it was more related to urine not passing the cath and building in my body. Fast forward 2 days on antibiotic pushed with fluids everytime, the fluid was going to every part if my body and not flushing, then when I did urinate I had no control at all, (again I think the foley damaged my ability to hold) sent home no shoes because, my feet were so swollen I couldn't get into shoes or slippers or wheel chair in the cold November, I walked out in socks. 2 days later, I couldn't bend my limbs s due to fluid, the blood Preassure started to raise to about 200/110 sent back in, mag push, deadly low blood Preassure with first B/p medication push. Then more fluids to raise the pressure again...back to a whole night of peeing every 2 hours. I refused the catheter they tried to administer again....uhm do i look like an idiot??? Then another two days of fiddling with a cocktail of medication to get my BP right, my heart rate down and stable at night. They finally did a test for high T3 levels confirmed(which post partum was nowhere in digital records to be found, paper only, that I had to figure out myself)...fast forward 4 years and I am now weaned off or 2 BP meds one nerve stabilizer and switched to a more mild BP medication and personally switched myself to high quality beer root supplements which work great ....if not better than amlodipine.....moral of the story, the whole time I was there ine nurse stood by myside and told me, this is your body if you do t want them putting a catheter in you and you want someone to manually support you, I will be here for ypu all night...she was my angel and supported my needs to my knowledge of my body, I knew she knew in her heart I was mistreated and wanted to do right by me...she was a godsend.

I had postpartum preeclampsia with my first. I was exclusively breastfeeding & continued to while on BP meds. There are MANY BP meds that are safe for nursing moms so fight if your doc tells you otherwise. I was lucky in that my BP responded quickly to the first med, so I was only on it 6 weeks. HOWEVER, I developed hypertension (despite no risk factors, healthy weight, athlete, etc.) during menopause in my mid 40’s. Having pre-e either peri or postpartum significantly increases your risk of high blood pressure during menopause, and so few doctors (including my own) know that and don’t look for it because they only see you periodically. The nurse at my migraine clinic picked up on it and looked back at my records to see that it’d been high for 4 years! I’ll be on hypertension meds for the rest of my life but I don’t mind since untreated hypertension increases the risk for so many other things including Alzheimer’s, and in and of itself, can be deadly.

My heart goes out to you. I hope you went back and got the care you needed. It sounds concerning that you are still having chest pain, definitely be in close communication with your doctor or midwife. My shortness of breath was mostly caused by having fluid on my lungs from retaining so much fluid. Once I was on the magnesium for 24 hours, and got a lot of fluid out of my body, the shortness of breath improved. I am hoping for a speedy and full recovery for you. What is the probability if a person was diagnosed with preeclampsia prior to delivery that they will have post preeclampsia
@JojoBojo-k6b
@JojoBojo-k6b 10 ай бұрын
It’s higher than if you don’t have pre-e during pregnancy, but still pretty low. I had one pregnancy with both (pre & post), and one just during pregnancy. But any preeclampsia significantly increases your risk of developing high blood pressure during menopause so be sure to tell your docs and watch your BP from your late 30’s on. It’s actually “perimenopause” but few women know that it starts sometimes years before your periods begin to change.

I was in the hospital for seven days after I gave birth and he was 6 weeks early, I finally got to go home and one day afterwards I had to go right back because I have bp of 178/107 and I had the magnesium drip and it was awful. I had to constantly use the bathroom and not feeling good. Finally I got out on bp medicine that I cannot breast feed because the medicine that you can use with bp was not working. But if all her tests are coming back normal and she still feels that way, encourage her to be checked again. Also, offering her lots of support for her and her babies is the number one thing that you can do for her. If the anxiety continues encourage her to talk to someone about this too!

I took magnesium during my delivery. At the peak time my magnesium level got super high and I gone through magnesium toxicity sideffects. My mag level was 7. Now I am in 4th week postpartum. But my BP is high still. M still on BP med. My BP is fluctuating.some time my BP is 110/70 after 1ht when I check it is 146/107 like that. Do you know is that some thing I need to worry?

Hi! I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with the same issues with preeclampsia. It is such a scary feeling. I would definitely talk to your doctor about the blood pressure numbers you are seeing. Anytime you are worried, it is best to talk with your doctor rather than waiting. Wishing you a fast recovery mama

i had HEALTHY pregnancies, till the end. I suffered too from postpreeclampsia with both my births- with my first baby i had to take lebatolol medication for about a month then my BP regulated. MY second baby it was a nightmare. at 34 weeks, I ended up having a placenta abruption due to the preeclampsia (its along story) I wasn't treated or diagnosed the entire pregnancy, and my doctor missed my signs/ symptoms and i ended up taking myself to the ER and having an emergecny C section!!! All went downhill after that bc of the BP. I was on medication for 4 months!!!! I never thought it was going to regulate again, and i was terrified of that. BUT it finally did, and I was in contact with a cardiologist the whole time. Do you have a cardiologist??

@@Emmy90807 Hi Emily i am so sorry to hear your bp took that long to be regulated. why were you in contact with a cardiologist?.... I am six weeks post partum and still on nifedipene 40mg/day. I have chest discomfort and shortness of breath my BP fluctuates like crazy........sometimes i feel like i am about to get a heart attack, sleeping at nights is really hard. Did you experience these symptoms for the 4 months it took for your BP to get regulated??

My epidural didn't end up working and I felt my daughter cone out and I strained my body so bad. I had normal BP through pregnancy as well until 37 weeks and they induced me. After I was on magnesium as well. Suuuuuper thirsty but theybket me eatvand drink normally. Just made me tired and hot. I've had HBP since i was 13 and even the kidney drs said I was okay but they don't understand why I've had it that long. They had to up my dose to 600 MG of labetalol 3 times a day as well as a beta blocker and another kind of medicine. But I felt worse in the hospital. Was there for 5 days. I'm always anxious and I feel like that raises BP too.
