I also do product design for 3d printing in my business. I 100% agree with your approach. Supports should be avoided as much as possible and quality models truly result in less post processing time. Should be getting quality parts right off the plate, ready to be sold. Would love to see you do a video on how you go about optimizing designs for the 3d printing process, not enough people talking about the importance of that.

You should try it. Object: PLA (or PETG) Support: Same as object Type: Normal Style: Default Top Z Distance: 0.00 Support/Interface: The opposite of object. Since example Object is printed in PLA, the Support Interface material will be PETG. You would be shocked what the outcome is. Since PLA and PETG don't stick to one another you can get some really clean surfaces and removal is like magic. Love the video!

Hello Chris, Thank you for your nicevideos. I looked at them all because I was thinking about buying a Bambu A1. I ordered one yesterday and can't wait to print out my first things. Now I'm learning how to use Fusion360 since I still have a few days until my 3D printer arrives

I bought an A1 recently and it's by far the best 3d printer I've ever used, some of the parts I've printed so far look so good you'd think they were injection moulded if I didn't say they were 3d printed!

I guess another question I would have is why battery holders? Seems market is fully saturated with those. Are you actually finding success there? Maybe my issue is even if I think market is full maybe there really is room for me. IDK...
@OfficialOffDaBench
@OfficialOffDaBench 21 сағат бұрын
The short answer is no, not a ton of success, but I also haven't had them up for a very long time. The question for me is not is the market saturated, but is the product complimentary to others. If I am selling a charger bracket, you bet I want the customer to also buy the battery mount and tool mount from me as well :)

Super insightful and I love the sneak peek into your thought process as I feel like that helps way more than most KZbin videos that just say “do X etc…”. I need to know how to think so I can make my own designs about things - if that makes sense?

Are using Fusion 360 for parametric design. I have used Solidworks, Creo (aka Pro Engineer). I recently purchased my printer now looking into parametric design software

Love the content. Currently started selling multicolor fidget stuff that friends asked for. I cringe with how much waste and time to print these. I love designing functional parts and that’s my goal to start a full business in.

So... I do not know how to design. I know the basics of Solidworks, but nowhere near of designing a product from scratch. I want to start getting into the business (Waiting for my bambu A1). But I don't know if to put effort on buying models and try to sell that with thousands of competitors or invest time (limited) into studying product design and Actual design software... Ideas?

@4:05 I guess my question would be why not just buy another build plate? Or get a new skin for it? They have plate skins that will transfer some wild looking holographic if ya wanted to. Personally I just like the micro texture of the PEI plates.
@OfficialOffDaBench
@OfficialOffDaBench 21 сағат бұрын
I am going to order some new build plates that may solve this issue, but the smooth texture plates I was using left micro scratch marks that could not be removed from the final product. Created too many "failed" prints, so I just took that option away.

Really curious how this works out for you as there are already lots of these out there and free, not to discourage you at all as I’m in the same boat. This could be valuable when starting out and seeing how quickly you can generate something with an already over saturated market of these items. Monday I’m sending my son with a notepad and an articulated dragon and T. rex to school. Let’s see how many names he comes back with 😂 Good luck buddy I look forward to this journey with you

Appreciate it! Right now I think more products, the better. The battery mount is a complimentary product to my charger mounds as well. This could create some great cross-sell opportunity down the line. The gold mine is to keep an eye out for unique ideas, but those are far and few

I made a design and uploaded it to Etsy. That simple. I'm not so worried about what others have done, but what I enjoy making. It also helps that this is not currently my main source of income, so if a product doesn't do well it doesn't hurt me financially.

I was hoping to hear more about the actual process, not the constraints you place on yourself for your design. Things like: deciding what concepts/ideas to design, what steps in the prototyping/design process, how to go from prototype to product, how to test/iterate a design, what software, do you scan parts or recreate them with a bunch of calliper measurements, how to make a design that meets your considerations, etc
@OfficialOffDaBench
@OfficialOffDaBench Күн бұрын
I'll try to add some more of that in future videos! The unfortunate truth is the actual design process, it trial and error. The constraints on my design process are more informative to the final product than the actual process of 3D modeling.

For the support issue you were talking about an option is using a different material for the support interface layer such as petg on your pla prints. It makes the surface where the supports touch the part quiet a bit nicer. This does produce a lot of waste and increase time of your prints though so it's probably not something you'd want to do for every print but if the supports are required it's something to keep in mind.

I enjoy watching your videos and you seem like a very likable person. That's why I'm a little concerned for you. If I look at your products and think, who are his customers? I'd say people that use battery powered tools (woodworkers, mechanics, DIY people, etc). If I watch your videos and ask, who are the consumers of his videos? I'd say people that do 3D printing. The people watching your videos are not your intended audience (of course some will have tools). To be honest, your product doesn't have a very high barrier to entry and you're showing your direct competition everything. I'm not sure if your intent is to be a manufacturer or a youtuber, but I feel like this channel is only going to hurt your manufacturing business. If your intent is to be a youtuber, then making products is a great way to find followers and create conversations. It's far better than 3D printer reviews all the other 3D printing youtubers are doing.
@OfficialOffDaBench
@OfficialOffDaBench 20 сағат бұрын
Thanks for the concern! The goal is to do both :) I'm not locked into any specific product line. As I grow and figure out what exact customer I want, I can focus in more.
