Top righthand turbo to intercooler pipe small split. Check all the turbo plumbing for correct fitment, I had a cheap pipe clip break and the pipe then leaked air under pressure. Prone to aircon fan motor failure at high mileage, and have all the front pulleys and fan belts been replaced? The idler pulley bearings fail, and shreds the fan belt. I suggest a proper dianostic check on everything for correct function. The Autel Maxi200 system on your phone works well. One needs to pay for the Landrover package for one year.

When I read the video title I genuinely thought it might be irony, and that the "wierd noises" would just be the sound of a Range Rover running perfectly! 🤣🤣

The reverse sound is normal when reversing up hill slightly. It’s the waste gate releasing pressure. Mine did it and all the other 4.4 tdv8 I’ve seen. Covered in great detail on the Full Fat forum. Get immersed in that forum and all your answers are there 😊

Difficult to diagnose on a video, but it sounds like a boost leak. Maybe an intercooler hose is blown. That’s why it’s quieter at cruising speed, (no load on the turbos).

Hi, Sound 1, Take out the Pollen filter run the fans, if louder i suspect bearing on the fan, If no difference, check the small fan at the back of the HVAC switch panel. Sound 2, check all low pressure air in take pipes, air filter box for cracks to Turbo. A smoke test will confirm. Nosie 3, I think that could be oil leaking past the the seals in the transmission. Happy Motoring 😀

The first sound, sounds like a blower motor going bad. Mine does it too and is a big job to get down in the dash. But AC works find for now. For the second sound, do you mean the whooshing sound or the turbo schrill? Could be a boost leak of some sort or sticking actuator. The ticking sounds like a CV axle. If while turning could also be a Sway bar end link but sounds like a CV axle binding

You have the infamous air con blower leak. The bearing in the fan gets dirty and starts to squeek, especially at low speeds. This is a very common problem for all cars. The solution, unfortunately, is to remove the blower fan and replace it

Definitely a boost leak . I’ve only owned supercharged Range Rovers Fan squeak is the bearings in that fan itself, take off the cabin filter and spray duck oil or wd40 in the intake it might work , close the dash vents so not to spray oil everywhere and on the glass ❤❤

Definitely agree with other comments about hose leaks...could just be a split hose or loose hose. The last noise may be a worn centre bearing on the driveshaft, but as with other comments it's not easy to diagnose on a video.

The 3rd noise sounds like it comes from the air filter box pretty common on 4cylinder Diesels when you release the gas pedal and the air gets like sucked back or something but i don‘t know if the tdv8 use to sound like that mines don‘t do it maybe check your air filter housing for cracks or sum like that

The acceleration noise does sound like a boost leak.... but could be turbo related. Impossible to say from a video! Would advise a smoke test of the inlet system to check for boost leaks before going any further. We do see a lot of these with boost leaks, especially on the SDV6 engine (i know yours is the TDV8) The flutter when turning the engine off would also suggest a boost leak. The sound in reverse sounds like it happens when you let off the throttle.... Try this in forwards to (the sudden throttle and let offl, does it do the same?)

Blower motor bearings do the same on mine. Spraying lubricant in the intake does nothing. Its a huge job to replace the blower motor using the book procedure. Faster to take the dash out and then cut away a section of the dash to gain access. 2012 150k miles on mine.

The A/C Fan noise is the HVAC blower motor. Mine did this too but seemed worse than yours only when I turned right 🤣 the spline on the blower gets rusty and squeaks. Only way to fix is to replace it - good luck! Big job 🫣 The second noise is your turbo spooling. Does sound loud but if it’s been rebuilt wouldn’t worry too much. Third noise is just the turbo waste-gate. My 4.4 does this too. I’ve had mine leak tested by smoke and air pressure. There are no leaks on the intake or exhaust what so ever. It’s just a character of the 4.4 bi turbo set up. It may have been re-mapped by a previous owner as that’s what my LR garage suspected with mine. Sounds like a little turbo hot hatch 🤣

Definitely a leak in the turbo system somewhere. I had a similar whoosh on my defender and I found a big split in an intercooler hose. Easy fix, whoosh gone. My turbo also makes a sound like a police car is following you. Everyone looks for a police car the first time the drive with me it's hilarious. Mine isn't as loud but it's been like that since I bought it 3 years ago and it hasn't gotten any worse. For what it's worth: I used to get a black puff of smoke on startup and it ran really rough for a few minutes. I had really good results with diesel injector and turbo cleaner (it's basically kerosine). When I start it up it runs beautifully from the start. I'd definitely throw some of that in any older diesel. I saw there is also an oil additive you put in shortly before oil change which also helps remove carbon deposits. I'm going to look into that too.

Ever thought of getting a probe for electrical things in the car. Relatively cheap, you take the electrical componant off, blower fan, connect the probe to the battery of the car, the earth wire to earth and the other to the possitive in the componant, it will set it going and test to see if it's ok off the car. Plenty youtuve instructional vids.

The heater blower motor packed up in my X5 and that started with a squeaking noise. For my car it was a dash out job but I don’t know about the Range Rover. As for the engine noise- hmm tricky without seeing it. Not sure it’s the turbos. If it’s under load it could be one of the ancillaries. In my opinion if you bought from a reputable dealer I would return it.

The A/C noise sounds like the bearings on the blower motor is going bad. When the bearings go bad, the shaft gets loose so the squirrel cage (fan that resembles a hamster wheel) will slightly move in the housing causing it to squeal like a cricket as it rubs the housing its mounted inside of. Id recommend having the a/c blower motor changed before it (1) wears the blower motor fan out and or (2) rubs a hole in the housing. Love Land Rovers. I currently have an '08 Supercharged and previously had an LR3, with eyes set on an older Defender to have some fun with.

I know I have absolutely no knowledge on cars at all but just here to drop some thoughts and learn something from you all. The first air con noise sounds like to be the compressor? Or the fan has come off slightly, or blocked by bits of fracture (I guess it is same old as the car)? The second sound when the turbos kick in, I heard this from a BMW 1 series, it’s a rubber pipe leak or blown, the power should went down. Easy fixed by replacing the pipe. This is from my first car (16 reg diesel astra) it doesn’t make the same sound but have issues with EGR. it could be an EGR issue, again I guess the car has never been replaced the EGR valve or carbon deposit cleaned? Tryna get it cleaned. The third sound I just got no idea, sorry. I would recommend getting an OBD reader, it doesn’t need to be expensive but worth it. It can help you get a rough idea what’s wrong. Sometimes the car won’t get a warning light but maybe an error code, you can check what’s wrong with it and see if you can fix that? :))

The ac does sound like the fan blade within the housing is out of balance and is catching the housing. Possibly a balance weight has come off the fan blade inside the blower assembly. Does it make this noise without the ac on? Noise in reverse, this sounds like compressor surge dumping off, basically boosted pressure not being used blowing back through the air filter. New cassette, it’s possible that the new cassette that’s been installed on your refurbished turbos is upgraded and flowing more air thus creating more air noise. Check the air box also that it hasn’t been drilled to allow more air movement, also check if the air filter isn’t ripped or a sports high air flow filter. Dom

Lucy, I don’t think I would rely too much on the advice of keyboard experts regarding your Rangerover, they are very complicated machines and repairs are not cheap as you know. The problem with forums and KZbin experts is that whilst they can be very informative many keyboard experts are not even remotely qualified to even attempt to diagnose your issues. They will have you changing this and changing that at great expense to you and not them. Just my opinion based on past ventures with my wife’s rangerover.👍

They won’t have you changing anything. Only people who are truly clueless just throw money at problems. The comments give you ideas or general directions to go in for a diagnosis. Maybe you’ve had bad experiences, but that means you didn’t have the skill set to properly diagnose to begin with.

@@stop_lying_bro I think Lucy would admit to being pretty much mechanically clueless and that’s fine most people are which is why I said that, because keyboard experts often say things like, I changed this sensor at £150 and it fixed my problem and some people spend the money buy the part as advised and it makes zero difference to the problem. I never once mentioned assumption you did, I said based on ventures, I don’t assume because I am neither daft or arrogant but thanks for your narrow minded and negative comment you just proved my point about some keyboard users on forums and KZbin. What I should have said because I anticipated a comment from someone like you is, take it to a rangerover expert they will give you the best chance of an effective repair or diagnosis, I mean if you had a problem with your heart which is a complicated unit would you go onto KZbin to ask what some keyboard expert takes as medication. That "mouse" noise coming from you "AC" is actually the fan itself! That fan does not run on bearings, but simply in a "bush&axial" system. This way is the easiest and cheapest way to be done, and most all OEM does it this way. When the bushes gets very dry, warn or dusty, the "scweaking" appears and can be very annoying! Silicon spray on the bush&axial itself will provide some temporary relief, but replacement of the fan in the dashboard will most likely solve it for several hundred km to come! It will require some under dashboard panel removal in most make of cars, as newer vehicles has these fans hidden deep within its "dungeons"... Again, silicon spray might do the trick but it will go with some smell. Choose a silicon spray with a pleasant smell when doing this, as the smell might be around for some time to come...

Not had that, but I would take the cabin air filter out the front, put the aircon on full speed and then spray some sillicon lube (not that type) into the air filter housing - it's probably a fan squeaking and the silicon will perhaps lubricate it enough to shut it up.

Whistling noise sounds more like a leak in an intake pipe - which is common, have a smoke test done, the intake (plastic) can be expensive apparently. Pipes are cheap and easy to do.

Changed my mind on noise number two, would guess it's more likely to be a belt rubbing tbh, doesn't sound like a leak. Check the pulleys for play and belt for signs of wear, also a common service item on these.

On the subject of letting people out, my only gripe is that little attention is paid to what may be occurring at say a previous roundabout, level crossing, there are a few near me on the South Coast, or other traffic situation. Case in point there is a turning near me leading to a chip shop where people are constantly being let out which backs traffic up on the previous roundabout, causing a more dangerous traffic condition there which those letting people out constantly fail to see or realise. There will be natural gaps in the traffic at which point people will be able to go preserving the safety of others back down the road. To those of you that believe you are being considerate by letting people out, open your eyes to the bigger road safety picture because you are not if you only see what is in front of you. Flow of traffic is as important to maintain as is road courtesy. Range Rover does sound like it needs some attention. Hopefully it won't be serious but the classic police car siren noise is indicative of turbo issues. Hopefully it will be a boost hose issue and not a terminal turbo one. Nino Rosella of Not Economically Viable rebuilt a crash damaged L322 (I believe) not so long ago.

Turbo in my opinion. The bearing gets worn and the blades of the impeller contact the body making the sound. I would guess if you towed a caravan up a hill and accelerated hard it would go into limp home mode.

Does the first noise only happen when the aircon pump is engaged or all the time? My last l322 4.4tdv8 had the aircon pump replaced and garage said they would never do another one because it was so much work so hope it’s not that Second noise sounds like a leaky turbo hose on the primary turbo. If you want raw milk, you would be better going to Charlie’s farm shop at the bottom of Bury Hill rather than all the way over to Goodwood. They used to pasteurise and process their own milk on site from their dairy farm, but they no longer do that although you can still get raw milk unprocessed from them. Such a shame as it was the best milk in the area. They also have a really good butchers there too. Third noise could be the transfer box or diff. Is it worse when turning? Have you had the diff and transfer fluids replaced? One of the first things I did on my current L322 when I got it and cured some juddering. Charnocks at LITTLEHAMPTON can do that for you. Very good garage Pete there is brilliant being an ex Land Rover Master technician.

AC squeak. are you sure all the face vents are open full? (dont forget the ones in the rear). with mine if the face vents are closed, but infact one is just cracked slightly open i get a similar whistle noise. Love the idea of letting people go, that said i am sure you spend as much time as i do at west W crossing waiting for the barriers. GRRRR

A Range Rover needing a variety of issues diagnosing? Who would have thought such a rare thing could happen... Jokes aside, the fan noise sounds to me like a fan bearing, at least I've had the same sound when fans are dying in computers. The Turbo whoosh makes me think there's an air leak ,like a pipe is split or a clamp is loose, but I'm no mechanic. That reversing clonk just sounds very worrying to my untrained ears. You can tell Lucy is a parent because no parent is ever embarrassed about making weird or silly noises in public, it's just part of life.

My 4.4tdv8 doesn't sound like that under load. Sounds like it could be an air leak? I'd be checking the boost pipes maybe?

Mine was doing the whistle, it was the alternator. It eventually threw up a battery warning as it stopped charging

Hers is only when ac button is pressed. If it were the alternator or the aux belt it would be all the time.

There is a mouse trapped behind the dash. It makes that noise when the A/c is too cold.

Is the air con noise doing it with the bonnet open just thinking, is it the compressor pulley needs some lube on it if not, it could be something stuck somewhere. The other noise could be a boost hose going or turbo check to see any splits in hoses from the intercooler. Third noise i would get that top hub rear bush checked out. Loving the shorter hair.

You can’t lube a compressor pulley. It’ll be the clutch if it’s only noisey when the ac button is pressed
