Never shut a P38 with the keys inside - they love to lock you out. Always leave a window down! The main objective of any P38 is to gain control of its human.

They have a tendency for the rod to pop off inside the door, as I found out. A spare key is also very handy.

It's always satisfying to undo years of poor/non-existant/shoddy maintenance and have something work as it should. It's also nice to tackle a job expecting the worst and be pleasantly surprised. Good clear video for anyone tackling the same job.

Sam. Love the videos. I just bought a 1999 4.6 hse. Just had the ball joints done as the steering was all over the place and will do the damper myself this weekend. Plenty to do still. Keep up the good work.

You will only know if you truly have a functioning EAS after you leave it overnight and it stays in the height you left it at. I suggestion you put it in the "High" setting and see what happens after 24 hours.

Happy driving. I’m doing 500 miles a week on mine and it drives like new. The biggest driving difference to mine was made when I put on a steering damper 3 times the size of the original. Hell of a difference.

You’re a brave man trusting the Jack to keep the truck up instead of the stands. I’d use the stands to keep the truck up, and put the Jack under the truck a safety measure. I’d always trust the stands before the Jack. Maybe that’s just me. Regardless, great video, and I’m happy to see it’s getting there!

quicky question. I fitted new Dunlop airbags all around 4yrs ~ 15k miles ago. Two yrs ago the EAS gave up and we fitted a reconded EAS valve and pump unit. I have no problems driving but overnight the thing does deflate by the starboard bow giving the occasional EAS fault but if I leave it for 10 minutes it clears. WHY
@SamsMotors
@SamsMotors Жыл бұрын
Could be leaking from one of the connections to the air springs, or at a valve block. The connections need to be very clean and inserted fully to seal correctly. The EAS fault might be that a sensor is going out of range when the car sags all the way down (assuming it goes down to the bump stop?). I'd advise trying to sort it though as it will cause extra wear on the compressor.

I just replaced the air springs on my P38, it had been standing for so long and seemed to have the OG airbags in, everything is so badly corroded i needed to use a heavy steel hammer and bend the old pins out along with the base of the airbags, shame really, but those pins werent coming out, even after soaking in penatrant overnight. But, regardless, all the new ones are in with temporary pins as the new ones have been ordered and she now sits on the airbags, not the bump stops. Now i just have to figure out why she aint pumping up further, or going down... Electrical issues ftw. Also, if anyone with a working ( XD ) P38 see this, can anyone tell me how high she sits from ground to bottom rail in the different settings? I'd like to compare to see whats going on with mine.
@apollogenerator9837

Turns out, she works fine-ish. The height control seems to be working fine. I still have air leaks though and as of this comment, its going "Carolina Squat" on me. Apart from that, i have a Coolant leak that seems impossible to find and a vacuum leak in the Diesel lines. She still runs fine, just takes a bit to get going.

Well I'm in Aus and have just bought my first Rangie- 1997 epsom green Autobiography with cream seats with the green stripe down the middle.. Have already had problems and no I have no electronic means of finding out anything! Have cords on order for the RSW Solutions airbag fix as have just had mine collapse to the bumpstops after coming up with a fault and going to high for a week. Then with a number of other issues it suddenly collapsed at the servo while filling up. Man that was a rough ride home. So 4 weeks for the cord to arrive from the U.K. so have been onto an Aussie in North Queensland who has also done a EAS block refit here kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqWanqCrl7RsgbM and a bypass here to avoid being caught out like I have when it dumps you. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rom6h5uaeMdggc0. Thats my project for this week otherwise car can't go anywhere. For those interested he has done a lot of mods to his , lifted, bigger tyres, rear tyre carrier, airbox snorkle, etc,.

You rely to much on the jack and not the stands trust me let the stands take the weight not the jack also don’t pull up on the socket bar push it down one of these days it will come off and take you under the jaw 😢otherwise very good vlogs almost as good as LR time
@SamsMotors
@SamsMotors Жыл бұрын
I did it that way intentionally as when I released the pressure from the air springs the chassis sits down nicely onto the stands, and the jack just stops the axle from dropping too far down. Perfectly safe! Also I was always taught to pull up on a breaker bar - not only is it easier on the body and muscles, but when pushing down you're much more likely to nose dive faceplant the deck, or onto something hard/sharp on the vehicle if it breaks loose. Pulling up is much safer. Thanks though - I guess
