I think some people do but if it a harder animal to breed, it might die out as it’s easier to just poach them from the wild. I’m not interested in these guys but the animals I am interested in, I plan to breed so in my lifetime I don’t have to see them go extinct. I’m mostly interested in frogs, 1 type of toad and 2 types of gecko, not much variety but I’m not a fan of larger animals that eat crickets. I’d rather only have to handle fruit flies

These animals are so endangered they should only be raised in registered breeding programs run by zoos. In nature this animal lives in the top crown of a Screwpine tree. We are talking 1 male, maybe a pair & a juvenile. Illegal poachers go in and cut the whole damn tree down just to steal 1-3 of these beautiful creatures.They live in a very tiny area of Tanzania. These are Not for novice beginners and should only be raised in registered programs. Most people are not successful breeding them as their environment is not able to be properly replicated unless one is very experienced and even then it will Never be optimal. So not only are poachers taking these animals to the brink of extinction, they are destroying their environment that they need to survive. I used to raise & breed exotic reptiles and there is such a dark underbelly that goes on in the animal trades. My animals were always domestic & never wild caught. I can't tell you how many times people buy animals and do 0 - little research and end up killing their new animal. I refused to sell to people who didn't take the time to read up and have what they needed to care for animals like these. I always gave free advice on care though. A much more appropriate animal to have would be a day gecko or peacock gecko. These shouldn't be out there for just anyone to own. This is an extinction situation.

My dad used to breed them and ended up having so much that he instead of selling, gave them all away to zoos and his freind who owns a reptile store, whats crazy is 13/14 zoos failed to breed them and he gave four pairs to each zoo. Most of the ones in the pet trade are captive bred

Just about all the ones I've found were captive bred, and I don't think it's near as hard to breed em as you say.

@@Gorillagangsta202yes,if scared there tail can fall off or if a predator grabs its body it sheds all its skin and becomes a tan color and i believe that they do regrow there skin but they aren't good for kids, they are very skiddish and if they escape they are gone. Plus they are giants

They are being bred in captivity by experienced people. They are very specific little guys. They are on the critically endangered list. Not beginner friendly.

Ignore what this guy said, he was obviously joking but make sure you always avoid imports because these guys are critically endangered in the wild, but I’ve seen them highly available captive bred, I just recommend that you talk to a breeder, these guys can get from 150-300$ at least from what I’ve seen. Just make sure that you have all the supplies needed, your not gonna find these guys at Petsmarts or Petcos, I’ve never seen these guys at reptile expos but you can have them mailed to you directly from a breeder.

No, I’m pretty sure they are legal, again it highly depends on what country you live in, what state you live in, but I’m pretty sure there is no laws that prohibit from owning them, here in the U.S that is. Edit: because these guys are critically endangered wild caught ones are SUPER illegal and never a good option, captive bred ones I think are legal almost everywhere

@@Gorillagangsta202 yeah but at special shops plus they ard kinda hard to keep, and $300 is expensive for a lizard, lycaldactulas williamsi are critically endangered too so not much people own them, they only livd in a small part of the outside, the only place you can find a captive bred non-parasitic non-transported one is at my future store and Josh's frogs

There’s a lot of captive breeding going on mainly online, sure you may not find them at like a Petco or Petsmart, but they are always available online and you can have them shipped to your door in no time

Maybe we shouldn’t promote critically endangered species because they will then have further pressures pushing them towards extinction. Even if you get a captive bred one, others might endorse the illegal wildlife pet trade. And if demand rises for critically endangered species, the more people will go out and snatch them from the wild in the hopes of making a quick buck. Buy captive bred and maybe go for just a normal day gecko
