As someone who owns a trio of these wonderful little guys, I can vouch for everything you've said here - especially their ability to escape. Literally two minutes after I added them, one escaped through a space between the door and lid rim at the top. I've since taped the entire thing up including the front opening doors as I'm too worried to take it off! Something I don't believe Clint mentioned is that they WILL drink from water bowls. I still thoroughly recommend misting for humidity and drinking droplets, but if you have a small bowl of water available, they will also use that! Understandably low score, but if you're willing to be careful and work with them, they're possibly my absolute favourite gecko species and a delight to keep. Just set them up right!

Me and my partner keep phelsuma dorsivittatas and phelsuma laticaudas but we definitely won't stop collecting phelsumas because OH MY GOD THEY ARE PERFECT! Lizards in general don't have the reputation of a genius, which is pretty understandable (still love them) but thinking about these guys as silly little geese would be so unfair. I really can't put this into other words, I think they are intelligent, social creatures. Just a few of the things our day geckos do: -They will run to the glass and stare at us the moment they spot us misting/feeding the other terrariums. Almost as if they count the seconds we take till we get to them, and they can be super impatient about feeding/drinking! -If they are thirsty, they try to get our attention, and when we are finally looking at them, they stare at the misting spray. -They like to watch us going about our day -They accept gecko diet from hand (finger, technically) -They care for their bonded pair. We had to move the laticauda pair into another terrarium, which was easy to do with the female, but the male really made us nervous because he managed to hide under the backside of the terrarium, and we couldn't get to him (nor convience him to leave) for hours. At the middle of the moving, we had to stop the whole process, because it started to stress him out too much, and we didn't want to cause him harm. So when we finally could move him to his new place, we were absolutely relieved and delighted, for like 1,5 seconds. After 1,5 seconds the female ran up to the male, and for a moment we got scared bc what if the female already thinks of the new terrarium as her territory, and she wants to chase off the male. What happened instead, is the female put one of her foot on her pair, almost as a hug, and started licking him. She licked the dirt off of him, there was no biting, no chasing, it really seemed like she was making sure he is okay. She even put a hold on exploring their new habitat, and hid in one of the bambus rods with him for a couple of hours. I've never seen geckos do anything like that. I'm not saying it's 100% an empathy and social behaviour, maybe a gecko expert could analys it better, but until then, I fully believe the female recognised her pair, and that he was stressed, and she took care of him in the best way day geckos can..by licking, lol! Anyway, sorry for any grammatical mistakes, English isn't my native language, but I hope what I typed made sense still

Absolutely stunning geckos and great video! Fun fact on structural color - some insect species, such as damsel flies, use structural color as a competitive mating display. Essentially, the exact color reflected off the body of the damsel fly depends on how curved the chitin is - and therefor how big an insect is and how much fat it has stored away. Because of these, male damsel flies competing for territory and mates can avoid unnecessary combat by gauging the color of another male. This is grossly simplified and I highly encourage anyone interested to do their own research, but a good jumping off point is "Colour, fat and social status in male damselflies, Calopteryx maculata" by Fitzstephens and Getty.

14:08 it's funny, I actually have three neon day geckos and recently had one escape. I was puzzled with where it was I thought maybe it had died and the other geckos ate it or maybe it escaped? Anyway I'm looking around the tank for like two hours trying to find this guy until I'm convinced he's just gone for good... and then right as I finish up, I see a little gecko in the corner of my eye climbing over a rubbermaid on the other side of the room just kinda looking around and hanging out. I had caught lizards in my backyard a lot as a kid so I cautiously approached to try to recover him and surprisingly, he didn't put up much of an effort trying to escape and I was able to appeal to his curiosity a bit, get him to jump on my hand, and safely let him back into his enclosure. Love these geckos, so much fun to watch and absolutely beautiful lizards.
