Great request Annie. Randy doesn't need auto tune. He really doesn't need many instruments behind him. Its his voice. I give Randy Travis a 10 on this one.

My and my grandmother’s favorite country singer. So many wonderful hits but her favorite was Digging Up Bones. I remember her whenever I hear one of his records

Randy's musicality and voice were to the 80's & 90's what Jim Reeves were to the 50's. Unique sound with perfect control. His gifts cannot be overstated, a true legend of country music. All Randy's songs mentioned so far were co-written by Paul Overstreet.

Boomer here. I'm not very country but I've been a big fan of Randy since he was on Mattlock and sang and acted with Andy 💕. If I remember right, Randy was a homeless house painter that Mattlock hired. At the end they were plucking and singing and Mattlock said to Randy something like "you're pretty good. I know some people in the record business. I might be able to get you a recording contract". Of course Randy was one of the biggest stars out there then. I ROFL 😂!!

Randy Travis along with other artist's in the 80's were called the - New Traditionalists. Country music artist's and songs they did in the 80's and even some in the 90's - that really helped country music to survive and then go on to explode in a major way - helping to make it _ what it has become now.

you should really hear some of his other songs. "Digging up Bones" "There'll always be a honky-tonk somewhere" "Promises" "Honky-tonk Moon"

For a completely positive song about marriage and love, check out one of Randy's biggest hits. I think it crossed over to the pop music count down. Forever and Ever, Amen. [The video's setting is a wedding. Rhyming accidental.] kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZitiZV_hZ1md5osi=q2oH_ETbYFXPEyWF

The male (and occasionally, female) nickname stands for Randal is used often in the United States. However, it is uncommon in British influenced countries. And, yes, i do know the word definition you're referring to. However, i have always been a avid fiction reader back to 1970's. So, i know it. I don't think that the kids in my school knew it. I have never heard it in everyday situations in Seattle, Washington state, USA.

@MatthewC137 Dr. Who, Blake 7, Red Dwarf, Time Team, Ground Force, All Creatures Great & Small, A Very Peculiar Practice, etc. You might be surprised to what us yanks have been exposed. Why some of our centers for learning even had the OED for reference. I'm sure that it would have the correct meaning. Of course, a few episodes of Benny Hill could provide some background visual data. As an American Anglophile, I can attest that we are truly two countries separated by a common language. I was fortunate to serve with several RAF officers while deployed in Saudi Arabia. I quickly ran into trouble with the phrase, "I keep those in my other pants," in response to a young Flying Officer's question, "Where are your other tools needed to complete the repair." She turned a bright shade of red and started stuttering. Recognizing that I had committed a significant faux pas, I immediately apologized and asked what I had said that affected her. It was then that I learned that "pants" have completely different meanings and connotations in America and the UK.

@@MatthewC137 you are correct to surmise that the Internet opened our American eyes to many new world views. Most of the shows that I referenced predate the internet. I watch many of those broadcasts on our three channel rotatory dial television set in rural Mississippi.
