My REACTION to the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards (emotional)

To everyone thinking that I’m just “crying” over my favorite show not winning let me explain, my problem is not with the fact that jjk won it was majority vote I get that, my problem is with the fact that people are so blinded with recency bias that they don’t realize that the bit of jjk s2 that is in the voting is only up to a certain point but crunchyroll never explicitly made that known, and my OTHER problem is that though I will never deny jjk’s absolutely PHENOMENAL animation, art, music etc. I will stand by the fact that its story telling and characters absolutely PALE in comparison to Vinland Saga and my grief lies in the average voter being someone who most likely has watched ONLY stuff like jjk and demon slayer, and are in my opinion braindead because they just see big ooga booga action and pretty colors and vote just for that, this obviously differs from person to person but I’m just saying jjk won because it is popular not because it was deserved especially since it is not factoring in the MAJORITY of the shibuya arc, vinland saga for the win ✊

I really dont get why people on twitter are mad JJK won a lot. Its really popular and has good characters and peak moments. I watched vinland, and the only thing that makes me sad is it didnt win anime of the year and drama of the year. But everyother categories wise its the most loved by some die hard anime fans and 90% of casual ones hence why it deserved to win.

I might’ve been on the JJK hype train if I liked s2. As it stands, I can barely start s2, I hate it so much! Which is disappointing because I enjoyed s1. Hopefully, this Shibuya arc will be worth it. I just finished Hidden Inventory arc.

Vinland Saga should’ve won best Main Character. Thorfinn’s depth as a character is as deep as the Mariana Trench. Name ONE CHARACTER that has matured from their violent tendencies, and realized that everything isn’t about fighting or killing people.

I totally agree with you. Most of the people who voted in the nominations didn't even watch most the shows.... And totally baised towards the only show they've watched. This is clearly a popularity contest and after all the criticism, IGN was the right one.

Even if shows don’t win, the nominations still get those anime out there to more audiences. Although, I agree, the awards this year seem worse from years prior. There’s always gonna be complaints when it comes to opinions, but this year seems like CR isn’t even trying.

Vinland was robbed for Drama, and I didn't care for S3 of Demon Slayer. Glad ED was JJK, loved that ED. I did vote for CSM on cinematography but JJK Hidden Inventory is just as deserving IMO. Those 5 episodes were so good. I don't think Gojo should have been in the supporting character category, that being said I voted for Geto, who has the same VA as Reigen.

Ngl being a big fan of onepiece i personally think thorfinn should have won that. Season 2 of vinland saga was such a good one for his character,vinland saga got tottaly ROBBED off from jjk in many aspects. Also personally i think jjk is a bit overrated but it still is good! Okay, hard disagree with you on best fantasy. Demon Slayer didn't deserve to be *nominated*, same as last year when it won this category. Allow me to elaborate: Demon Slayer is set in Meiji-era Japan, but with demons and mystical swordsman stuff tacked on. No world building (this is different from lore building, which DS actually does) on display. So, if the bar for being a fantasy show is set at: 1) Mystical/magical powers accessed through whatever means fit the story, and 2) Demons/monsters/spirits/non-human races Then guess what qualifies as a "fantasy" show from this award cycle? Jujutsu Kaisen Chainsaw Man Heavenly Delusion There's even a case to be made for Zom 100 here. And NOBODY would call *any* of those 'fantasy anime'. This year should have been Mushoku Tensei or Hell's Paradise, maybe even Eminence in Shadow. Last year should have been MT, Overlord, Ranking of Kings or Made in Abyss. All of those shows had *extensive* world-building outside of 'what if we had demons in the real world?'. FFS, Mushoku Tensei created TWO WHOLE FANTASY LANGUAGES out of thin air just for immersion and world-building. Demon Slayer is a good show carried largely on its visuals and animation, which is a perfectly acceptable approach for a studio to take, but don't tell me it's a fantasy show.

It’s still fantasy. I have no issue calling the others fantasy although I haven’t seen all of them. I’ve seen everything except Heavenly Delusion and Zom100. The ones I have seen are fantasy. The genre being more than you thought doesn’t disqualify anime from their genre. (I think the isekai genre has really damaged the general perception on what is fantasy. There was always more to the genre than sub genres within it like isekai.) Also, not every fantasy will center itself on world building. Not all will even strive to be world building types. There’s plenty of other stories like this. InuYasha is still fantasy even if it’s set in feudal Japan (500 yrs before Kagome’s time) and the people then truly believe in demons and the era reflects this belief. InuYasha even calls itself a feudal fairy tale. Though, thanks for showing me why people might feel this way. Before, I was thinking people were only saying it due to being annoyed by its popularity and instead were wanting another show to win the category. I still kinda think this, but your comment was still nice to read. To hear another side.

It's not a hypocrisy but it's a poor choice. Gono just won due to popularity whereas.... Reigen was clearly the deserving one. If not reigen the n atleast kana was a follow up. If overrated character like gojo keep on winning the awards... Then good underrated characters will never get recognition... And the anime industry will end up bollywood

@@ayanpal1435 I watched both MP100 and JjK 2, and I think Reigen Arataka, especially in S3 that is the last one (so the show had the opportunity to get some final recognition, but details...), for what he managed to do (if you know what I mean) he demonstrated to be a way greater support(er) character than Gojo. My humble opinion, obv. ^^

my problem isn’t with jjk itself it’s with the people voting for it because they haven’t watched anything else, jjk is masterful in it’s animation, art, and music etc. but pales in comparison to vinland saga’s story and characters but the braindead kids who vote only watch big ooga booga action and pretty colors, that’s my problem
