Demon slayer is a fantasy. Anything that isn't possible is considered fantasy. Not defending the results though. Demon slayer season 3 was lackluster compared to the entertainment district arc. It did not deserve best fantasy.

I think the Anime Awards moving forward need to stop ONLY considering the public's votes, and instead bring in some actual animation professionals, writers, musicians, and directors as a panel of judges whose votes are more important than the public's. If we're gonna keep seeing popular/overhyped anime win JUST because they have so many fans who are spam-voting, shit's gonna get boring real fast.

Out of curiosity, I looked back on the nominees and winners for 2023, and it's the exact same. The only difference is that attack on titan sweap instead of jjk. They didn't even nominate bocchi the rock for best art direction, but they nominated demon slayer. And it won.

I think the biggest problem with the whole JJK Sweep thing was the Miscommunication about the Hidden Inventory Arc and The Shibuya Incident, JJK rightfully so did deserve some of those rewards won but there’s just this miscommunication that the community itself confused it with ALL of Season 2 and not one part, I totally agree that It should’ve been pushed into 2025 than squished into this year. Crunchy Roll just has to take it back and redo their whole show to fix the multiple holes it has.

For Anime of the Year, if we're talking about the Hidden Inventory arc only in JJK (which is what it actually was) sure, but not if we're talking about the entirety of season 2. JJK season 2 is pretty universally considered one of the great shonen arcs.

The fact that demon slayer was even nominated and the fact that it won for best fantasy is probably the worst thing about the whole thing demonstrating both how bad the nominations are as well as how it's just a popularity contest where the voters don't even vote for the thing the show is nominated for. Demon slayer is barely a fantasy having one race of superhuman villains who aren't really all that interesting when it comes to their power set and how that fantasy race is integrated into the show's world is absolutely terrible as far as halfway competent storytelling goes. And this won best fantasy?

Apparently in one of the announcements it mentioned jujutsu kaisen s2 for both the hidden inventory arc and shibuya incident, but I thought crunchyroll don't count fall season for their anime awards, because shibuya incident aired in fall 2023, this is proof that jujutsu kaisen s2 winning all its awards including anime of the year was rigged

Instead of blindly voting for the only anime they might have watched that season (like JJK). You wouldn't have a lot of the same anime making the top6 anymore. Your point of some anime showing in categories they don't belong in is a whole other issue. It is naturally the organizers fault. First off, they need to make more diverse categories. Then perhaps restrict the anime to only its most dominant characteristic, like they did with action/romance etc. But I feel like they know this already and the fact it still turned out like this, tells me they did it with an obvious agenda. I know you're not gonna like me saying this, but people love hopping on popular stuff, it's in human nature. You can't change how the world works.

@@pointyheadYT I guess that is true, but it can't be a permanent solution. We wouldn't need 1 vote limit if the award show was run properly. More categories, proper anime categories placement better production, limit the fan influences, etc. If we fix these solutions, we won't need 1 limit vote. That why I'm disagree with 1 vote limit, because I value solving the above problems first, which will naturely fix how people vote.

As much as I love jjk and im very glad it won, I wholeheartedly agree with this video. Vinland, which came out in Jan of 2022 (according to MAL cause I dont remember when it came out) vs JJK that just came super recently. JJK was obviously going to sweep! Also what about Bleach? Time zone? It was hosted in Japan. But for every other problem, replace every instance of where you said "Crunchyroll" with "Sony" and it will all make more sense. It is literally just an ad for Sony products and nothing else. Every winner was associated with a company that Sony/Crunchyroll has had a hand in. It was rigged from the start, the winners were chosen so long ago the judges and voting public don't even matter. It is literally an ad that will play out exactly how they wrote it.

I personally like that they organize it this way. Okay, in my country it is not that painful. It started around 10-10 pm. But yes, the translating was awful. But I also think that some people might rewatch the VOD. I watched the whole award show twice already. I watched the live "alone" and I was interested in one youtuber's reaction, so I "rewatched" it while I was playing. As for the JJK thing, it's not the first 10 episode. It's the first 5, but yes, they didn't communicate this. In previous years there were also cour 1 and cour 2 nominations.

I think its partly on the judges selection but also on the anime itself. There's like 50 anime a season airing and not only can the judges not watch all of that but most of it is just garbage.

I was gonna watch it but didn't even know it aired until I came home from part-time work in the afternoon to find out it started when my shift started and finished an hour ago. Last year was probably just as bad with live dubbing done by a woman with a thick japanese accent so nobody could understand, music not done by the actual band (I remember Homura and everyone asking where LiSA was) and nominees and awards just as atrocious. Woo Demon Slayer best fantasy won against Mushoku Tensei twice.

While there were problems with Hell's Paradise, overall I think it's okay to be there since plenty of times I feel that it was great. Probably had more great art direction moment than Oshi no Ko. So instead focusing on the fault, probably focus on the good part and you probably can see why it is being nominated. Personally if you tasked me to nitpick, I probably can nitpick on every show listed there and find their faults. As for time, well, it is good for me. I live in South East Asia so time is not a problem. I understand that it is a problem to those in the west, especially in the US, but at the very least it was in Friday night/Saturday morning! You have no idea what people in Asia had to suffer when those in the US or shows focusing more on the west have to do their show like in Sunday night. For example, I like to watch Formula 1 and MotoGP and sometimes they have races that were made to cater the US more, which in turn the races start at like Monday 2AM, 3AM, 4AM etc. It was hell! I'm actually fine if a show started at midnight or in the morning, as long as it is on Saturday or Sunday. As for the actual event, I think it is normal for it to be done at that time in Japan and afaik they rarely do things like this on Sunday, so it is a compromise. They can prerecord it, but honestly, it probably will ended up being leaked, thus might be even less people watch it. It is overall a compromise. They probably can the production quality issue, but probably not the time as long as they want to do it in Japan. Maybe move it a bit like 2hrs later is possible. As for the judges, while I do agree that there are definitely some misses, but you ended up comparing it to The Game Awards which also have misses which one of the obvious one is Forza winning sport/racing category which obviously the judges probably doesn't really know the other nominee and ended up picking the ones that they know. I think that's all that I want to say. I mainly want to complain about your take on the airing time thing and give different perspective to it.

It was way worse this year. People will always be mad their favorites got snubbed or one popular anime swept, but this year it’s so apparent CR doesn’t care anymore (if they ever did). They’ve moved onto working on their monopoly play. Clearly! I haven’t paid much mind to the awards since 2018, but it’s still nice to pop in now and then and just see what gets nominated and the winners. This year was way worse than last year and especially so in comparison to 2016-2018 awards. The first years were much better even if the inevitable reactions follow (which was always part of the fun, imo). At least then more anime got nominated and there were more judges who had seen at least more anime than these judges from news sites and blogs. At least there was 1 or 2 judges who’d do their best to ensure as many anime got to be featured in the awards as possible even if the popular ones will still sweep. (Which I’m actually not against at all.) The problem is CR doesn’t care about running the awards anymore. They’re doing the bare minimum and they’ve reached a new low this year.
