Hi everyone!! In this video I talk about all of the regrets I had when living in Germany for my year abroad there! I miss Germany a ton, but I had a few mistakes or things that I wish I had done differently, plus some funny and cute stories about my experience. Hope you enjoy this video or it can help give you some advice in case you are moving to Germany or want to study abroad! Regrets include foods, bad purchases, and more…

@@stellacarpenter4081 I know well. The best show in this regard put on the woman chancellor Merkel as her party and her social democratic henchmen won the last federal election: One of her party members stood behind her with even a smaller German flag than in Montana's video but as she noticed it, she took the flag out of his hand, made an expression like "It's not right, I don't want to see it here" and gave it further to another party member to get it away form the podium.

You would use the flags, if Germany won a big football game... soccer?.. Fußball you know what I mean. Like a World Cup game. After the national team won everyone would go outside (at least in bigger cities) and loud music plays, cars with those flags would drive around, people would draw the German flags on their faces and it's like a big party.
@silkwesir1444
@silkwesir1444 4 жыл бұрын
Some people will put them on their cars during the whole World Cup or Euro Cup... or at least as long as the German team is still in the tournament. There are a lot of different opinions on whether and how one should display these flags. What doesn't help is that people like supporters of the AfD party use them prominently, so your display of support for the national team may be mistaken as a racist statement by some people.
@harrydehnhardt5092
@harrydehnhardt5092 4 жыл бұрын
@@silkwesir1444 No, I don't think so. "Fußball" tournaments like the European- or World Cup unifies most of the county and even women who are normally not very much into it become big "fans". Just like in every other country participating. And everyone with a brain should be able to distinguish between someone being a team supporter (patriot) or someone who displays the flag because he's a nationalist. Charle de Gaulle said once: Patriotism is when love of your own people comes first; nationalism, when hate for people other than your own comes first.” That's the subtle but important difference.

Yup, and the big reason they where sold so cheap there is that the european championship was called off this year, so all the fan gear is now somewhere in a warehouse and nobody knows what to do with it. After all a lot has 2020 printed on it. They can´t just wait for a year to sell it, that is dead money.

In the last soccer-worldcup 2018 (there was nothing to celebrate for Germany, it was embarrassing for us!) we did not need the flags after the matches. But hopefully in 2021 when we have soccer European-Championship, we will need them and drive in convoys again...

The reason soft boiled eggs are less common in the US is because the standard of quality is much lower in the US. Food is more likely to carry pathogens so the food has to be cook more thoroughly. Obviously this isn't universal but definitely applies to mass produced supermarket eggs.

It may be important to know for people not living in Germany that Tedi is something like a One Dollar Store. Not every item is exactly one Euro but everything there is at least 50%, rather 75% cheaper what it would be in an normal store (Surprisingly, this does not necessarily means that the things are bad, I have got small kitchen knives from tedi for 2-3 € each and they are very sharp and absolutely fine). And they mainly sell stuff you dont actually need but somehow you think oh well it could be cool have to that (e.g. German Flags for your car, a funny looking demon statue for your garden, little plasctic things to stick to your bathroom wall so you can hang your towels without drilling a hole into the wall etc.). And the combination of stuff you dont actually need but you think is kind of cool to have combined with the very low price make shopping there addictive in a weird way.

The printed vintage looking metall boxes are nice. When you need some in the kitchen for tea or other stuff they are great. And it is OK for little presents. I mean it's not that difficult to softboil eggs. Normal size eggs for about 3-4 minutes will get them just right. Keep it just below 3 minutes if you want to dip bread sticks in your egg-yolke. Edit: this is when putting eggs into boiling water.

I let the eggs cook for two and a half minutes. But I lay them in the cold water and then cook. And only when the water boils from then on is the time counted.

You see these flags mainly during international soccer tournaments like the EM or the WM. Never was a huge fan of those. XD

Soft boiled eggs and timing egg-boiling time is not a thing in the US? That's interesting, I thought that was a worldwide thing. You can still make them and try them though!

don't worry, 🤣 you could use the flags, if you're visiting germany during soccer world cup. That's the time you might see lots of cars driving around with the flags attached.

You would probably have seen the flags this summer if it hadnt been for corona virus. Cause there would have been the European championship (soccer). They are pretty much only used during big soccer events like the world cup or the European championship.

What kind of differences between East and West of Germany were you taught in school? Curious what the academic positions of this are! In Germany we don't learn a lot about this in order to overcome the thinking of "west" and "east".

haha the flags are for when germany wins at soccer, and since the euroball does not happen this year, they had to get rid of the flags they bought for that occasion to sell to soccer fans. Us germany do buy them, but only for these special occasions. That is why they are made so cheap, we only keep them around for 2 weeks.

These little flags came up when we hosted the World Cup (...or was it European Cup?) in Soccer in germany. I honestly forgot what it was but I`ll never forget the joyful vibe throughout this summer in our country. It was a very nice time and atmosphere even if you aren`t that much into soccer. At that time pretty much every car was driving with these flags around and they returned somewhat every time germany won a important cup game or played matches in the final stages to the cup. Btw I am always unsure if I have a bad habit of using "the" to often, my english teacher always said "when in doubt leave it out" but it sounds right to me :D Oh and I almost forgot, the appropriate terminology for stores like "Tedi" is "Kruschtelladen" where you buy your "Krims Krams" ^^ I think we germans have a thing for these type of stores. I don`t know is it like what US americans known as penny stores? Is it comparable?

A weichgekochtes Ei is to boiled eggs what a sunny side up is to fried eggs, so you definitely missed out! Just boil an egg for EXACTLY seven minutes and you should be all set for the tastiest boiled egg you've ever had :)
