After lots of review watches including yours. I have bought the stages dash l200. It is older , lower cost than latest garmin, bryton, hammerhead and the brought climb feature to this and older models. Love that they offer it to existing users, smart sensor pages, and Visualisation is next level. Looks like i am leaving garmin. Its worth a look.

Great review! I've been happy with my Rider 750. It's had its moments, but it does update regularly. To get around the shiney screen I fitted a satin screen saver from a phone. The all day battery life is a real plus on both units. Who wants to carry a power pack? Any fine tuning is best done on the phone app, but once it's set, it's set! So the S500 looks like a great unit, and even better as it's considerably cheaper than its rivals. However the only advantages over the 750 seem to be faster processing, the hill climb feature, and even more battery life. Is that enough to upgrade from a 750? Not sure yet!

If you're happy with it, I'd recommend staying with the 750 until the S500 'beds in'.

I just bought an S500 for the same price as a Garmin 530 and happy with it, though i didn’t realise that the Google maps wasn’t installed but actually parasitising from my iPhone.

I don’t understand why Bryton would come out with the 500, when the 750 already exists. There are slight improvements with the 500, but at a cost of a smaller screen. They weigh almost the same. What am I missing? Why would anyone choose the 500 over the 750?

All fair points J-P. It is quicker than the 750 (i.e. more capable chipset) but a lot of the same issues remain.

I'm looking at an alternative to Wahoo Roam, my old Elemnt battery is fading and turned to online to get reviews. I was all for the S500 until your review, it doesn't seem to match the sales pitch and website statements Bryton are advertising. Is this just your firmware / mapping needs updating ? They state the S500 is a standalone device, you can download the relevant area maps, that appear to be OSM, certainly their site shows more detailed mapping on the device and it has its own GPS so once a route has been generated it no longer needs your phone connected. I've just found Bryton own youtube channel so will go back to that. What attracted me to it was the long battery life (24h on their site) vers the 17h of the Roam.

You've got to imagine that will be in the next iteration of the Edge, now that Wahoo, Bryton and I think Hammerhead are doing it.

I’m not a fan of my 530. It feels stuck in the dark ages compared to where other bike computers are going. No touchscreen. Clunky buttons and you have to use those clunky buttons to update the display. To me, that feels super antiquated compared to others. Even on the Bryton it allows you to easily update your screen and profiles from a smartphone. Much easier than clicking buttons hundreds of times. The only two functions I like on the 530 over the Bryton are auto pause based on a custom speed and offline maps. Outside of that, I think Bryton is a winner and I’m considering it.

I’d go for the Edge 830. Eur319 feels like a good price. There’s a chance Garmin bring out a new 8xx variant (I’ve got no idea) but presumably at a higher price than this.

No the S500 doesn't have this feature - I don't think any of the Brytons have Strava Live Segments
