The AI part is what’s taking the image from the computer and deciding what the appropriate colors are to display on the LED strips. Not that you need AI for that… it’s AI for the sake of being AI. There are plenty of traditional algorithms that do the same thing, lol

Its laughable what they try to Archiv here. Signal rgb does a way better job if you want reactive lighting to ingame actions or states. Govees "killerfeature" here is to recognize game specific events and wants to show certain light effect when it gets some visual cue in these 3 games. Signal rgb does this by getting the community and devs of games involved and gets certain states sended as commands from the games. You can even customize the effects for yourself and also toggle stuff off you dont want.

Rgbic is just an LED strip which can display multiple colours at once at different points on the strips, like segmented or color rainbow animations etc

Yes , to be precise Philips did, they also patented that built in ambilight technology so there are no other options but either buy Philips or add a diy kit to your existing tv/monitor The latter is exactly what this box does. There are cheaper options out there tho, you can basically get the same effect with any rgbic/argb strips and a raspi or Arduino and open source code, but from what I’ve seen nothing compares to the Philips ecosystem You can combine the ambilight with their expensive hue lights so not only your tv but the whole room will illuminate with fitting lighting based on the positions of the light source in the room. The biggest problem imo is that at least here in Germany your light data will be sent to the Netherlands first bc they’ve got some data center stuff over there So if you change the mood of your room, or turn lamps on and off there will be a delay when using anything else but the local ambilight of the tv. This for me is a total no-buy argument and I’m still waiting for an open source solution to use your diy microcomputer “ambilight” with either the real or other non Philips rgb smartlamps on a local network basis. From what I’ve seen this far the hue lights are worth the extra additional cost if you care for color accuracy , they are the best in regards to color, while other much cheaper options often beat them in the low-light department, meaning there’s only a certain amount of discrete brightness steps on hue, and other products often get more steps for low brightness, so If you got an Oled and blacked out home movie cinema it could get more moody with non hue lights, but you won’t get the extremely good color accuracy in lighter scenes. It’s a trade-off in every way. Tl;dr: if you’re on a low budget , diy your “ambilight” to existing screen If your extremely sensitive to color, a creator type guy, hue is best If you want a full room/house experience with more than just the tv lighting your room in fitting colors Philips is the way to go If you are a gamer who’s never seen the light of day , who’s Monitor probably isn’t that color accurate but rather high fps cheaper alternatives may be best , darker lights won’t blind you while gaming and still have adequate amounts of lighting steps to feel natural and not individually discrete You can also combine hue and certain non philips lights in your setup to fit your needs perfectly Whatever you do, do your research beforehand, sadly there is much room for improvement in regards to compatibility of different manufacturers so you’ll have to check if and how your dream setup can be realized

I've had the now defunct Dreamscreen RBIC backlight for like 8 years, and I haven't watched a single movie without it. Definitely increases your immersion and lights the room well enough that it's not distracting while allowing you to see if you need to get up. I highly recommend giving this or something similar a try. Tip: you can actually build your own version with a raspberry pi and RGBIC strips for relatively cheap.

They should do a video where they build their own RGB ambilight using Prismatik and an arduino. I did just that two years ago and it is perhaps the best upgrade to my monitor I ever did. Also it doesn't need any AI black box you just set as many zones as you'd like (e.g. one for each pixel on your RGB strip) and it will PERFECTLY respond to the content on your screen!

I recommend: DIY with Hyperion as Software for your Raspberry, a HDMI splitter and HDMI to USB scaler. I replaced the splitter with my AV which has two outs. Either way, works with more zones (endless) than Philipps or Govee and costs less in most cases. And you learn stuff doen the road.

i did it years ago with just a arduino nano connected to the pc that controlled the leds and a software. For my tv i have a raspberry with that stuff too :). Its not hard to do guys and way cheaper!

I would always suggest to go with a camera setup, becaus hdmi is pain when it comes to 4k 120hz, hdr and sourround sound formats. There is almost nothing on the market that can handle a split and even the one splitter i used, could habdly all formats, but with vrr you get a lot of trouble with flickering with the lights and also the display output drops out frequently becaus the Bitrate can be messed up with some wrong edid readout after each restart.

Where's the "AI" in this? There's been LED solutions, including ones using arduino. I have backlighting on THIS VIDEO right now. So I'm really struggling to understand what, besides some integration to two video games, this thing is doing that's different, or worth the cost? Especially as the arduino one works over USB, so for PC, you don't need to worry about what type of cable the monitor uses.

GOVEE is the first??? Maybe the first to use their specific algorithm but I've had Hue Sync for my games for over a year now. 5 lights that I can place around my room. I have three in front and two in back. You can also use the same box and lights for your TV AND since they're smart lights (part of the Hue system) I can also program those lights with Alexa and various routines so I can sync them with music, games and movies.

@@DX88 Hue has integration as well. And will start the sync depending on what game has been launched. The only real difference is that this one does things like flash the lights when you get a kill and stuff. Not a big selling point to me.

This Ever since my parents got their first Phillips ambilight tv they won’t go back to anything else I’d rather add diy ambilight to a gaming monitor but from what I’ve seen most diy kits add lots or delay which Phillips prob just circumvents by adding additional extra image and sound delay It doesn’t have to be 1ms for my taste but it shouldn’t be obviously noticeable

Requiring game support puts in the realm of keyboard RGB support where it's occasionally cool, and mostly pointless. Requiring HDMI passthrough is also a deal breaker. Even though in OS apps can be a memory drain, that's better than additional HDMI lag, and no DP support.

Games with integrated RGBFX do the same thing. MK11 on my Alienware M17 has adaptive RGB just off the top of my head, which also worked with Logitech gear. I imagine there is software that can do this as well. I guess? Not that big of a selling point though.

I have managed to get my Govee light to match my screen via connecting it with razer chroma software. I don’t really like it and it’s certainly not perfect but it didn’t cost me any extra so that’s a win.

I'm using the Phillips Hue Sync Box for my TV and I also have Phillips Hue Lamps for my Room. I have a RGB Stripe from Philipps Hue too but it's not as goood because it falls off on my table and my Wall is Green so the colors are wrong. I have also ICUE Smart Tower but they are not really Syncing. Do you have better recommendations?

philips has done this for years - both with their sync app, and their sync box. and before that, a guy made a little app called screen bloom, that does the same thing and there are numerous cheap alternatives on aliexpress. "AI powered"... lol it's as simple as looking at what the image is displaying right now and picking some colors based on that. Anyways, it at least does support higher resolution/framerate than the philips sync box. 4K 60 fps. but i imagine that's still not enough, for some.

As that would be good for my blu-ray player and nvidia sheild. the fact that they only support 60hz on HDMI in 2023 is really lacking with game consoles all bolstering 120hz and new TVs are 120hz. Seems like a missed opportunity for only a few bucks to support HDMI 2.1 passthrough.

@@fqdn No it does not, I am using a HDMI splitter and a DIY solution (Raspberry, Hyperion). The Splitter can do HDCP and up to 4k120HZ. Works perfectly fine.

My only concern and ive owned a system that had a HDMI pass through to do the color like this. Is can i trust them to not degrade my signal through their box. That was always my concern when I had my dreamscreen until it broke. That is why I like hues software with my PC. It doesnt need a pass through just a software that does it.

WARNING for gamers that want to use VRR or other HDMI 2.1 Features with this products. I had it for testing and iam buffeld that they release that thing in this state. No hdmi 2.1, no 4k 120hz, no vrr, no dolby atmos. The marketing features shown on the ads are atleast misleading, so be careful. If you hook this thing up to your nice expensive gaming tv, new Console or gaming pc, you will lose the goodies you paid for. Iam also pretty disappointed that they did not mentioned the limitations of this product once in this video. But what i should expect from a video that tests a ambilight system with a blue wall.... Dont get me wrong, this is a nice product and i was pretty pumped when they announced this, but without all the bells and whistles of hdmi 2.1 i dont get why they even made this product. Get an ambivision pro, it works with a wireless camera and also syncs with hue lights. No stress with hdmi formats, it works on you smart tv apps or pay in with a samsung tv and the new released hue sync tv app.....

Actually with Hue sync it's surprisingly responsive nowadays. It used to have a fairly noticeable delay, but a few years ago they updated the software on the bulbs/the hub so it works surprisingly well even with 3 lights I have (left, right, top behind the TV).

They claim it's the first time you can control different sections of lights simultaneously, yet we have had TVs with ambient lighting do the same thing, as well as getting an addressable strip light and then use the FastLED library, which actually does let you set the lights individually

I wish TV’s had pursued ambient lighting effects in earnest, it’s such a cool effect! Glad we have solutions like this with robust processing and lots of ports. With a niche little product like this, I cant help but wonder if this will be the pinnacle. I guess we should all run out and buy one if it is, and we should also buy one to make it not me. That’s what’s great about consumption, it transcends all paradoxes. Would cross shop this with Luminio and Philips Hue. Would personally wait for HDMi 2.1 pass through. As 4k120hz is the 1080p of our time!

I'd be very surprised if this thing could do hdr, vrr or high resolution/high refresh pass through. There aren't any cheap media SOCs on the off shelf market that can do it, the SOCs that are available can only do it over one or two ports and just the SOC costs more than this entire box

Idk if it needs AI or not, but my moms 10 year old tv has "ambient light" thats basically the same thing. Take whatever is the dominant color in a scene and project it on the wall behind it to get this feeling on a "expanded view". (idk how that works, but it does, i guess because of how we only really see a single spot clearly and the brain processes the rest in the background)

Kinda sucks they didn't consider the fact most monitors that are high refresh use Display port... I wonder if a converter would work well without adding to much latency. I got the G1 Pro but it kinda sucks cause it doesn't work well on ultra wides :(

This has been a thing for 10 years now. RGB backlight for monitors and tv that react to the stuff displayed, "extending" it. Atmos or what it was called. Phillips had it built-in in some of their tv.

Philips Hue have had syncing on PC for ages. TVs and monitors have had similar functionality also, what is the difference here? Feels like a play on the "AI" train.

They claim to be the first AI RGB but I have this in armoury crate called ambient lighting which does the exact same thing the only difference between this and armoury crate is that this comes with lights and lighting effects that games made for the products similar to razer keyboards

seen that without AI already though. like that philips hue stuff. can get a box to plug in the HDMIs and it even syncs with those wifi lightbulbs. expensive af but looks funny. only thing missing are those special light effects that show ingame events

SignalRGB does this and for more games as well. I guess being able to hook it up to multiple systems is a new thing but for just a PC there is software for this. Plus SignalRGB does everything in your PC as well.

If you're already in the Philips Hue ecosystem with a 2nd gen bridge, you can already do this for no added cost on PC. Philips Hue Sync is amazing and I've been using their Sync App on PC for years now. Good to see some competition though!

how much cheaper is it from the Philips HDMI sync box? philips hue app on a gaming pc isn't too bad for the smart colour option using light bars.

So aqua computer devices with AmbientPx have been doing this for a while, but have issues when the screen is displaying DRM protected stuff, as it can’t hook in… this would be good to test here too!

Do you need it with a PC and the already have g1 LEDs on the back of the monitor? Does it change the device colors that don't link to razer?
