Hi there Thank you for the video about the two bikes. I got hold of a Riverside 920 Touring this summer. I already changed the handlebars for a Ritchey Beacon 56cm. It fits me a lot better! Which brand for the cassette did you buy? Because i want to change that as well. Except for the chain did you need anything else? Thans for a replie. Greetings from Switzerland🖐
@wombat.vision2 жыл бұрын
I fitted a 11-46 from Microshift. It is not technically completely correct as I believe it has slightly different cog spacing from the original SRAM cassette, but it is working great. Shifts are crisp and clean and I hope it will continue working well as it gets more miles on it. I haven't changed anything else and so far it works great.

Hi, nice video. How much "bar" do you make the tires while you are on long trips? Thanks!
@wombat.vision2 ай бұрын
Thanks. I was using 3 bar in the tyres with my weight and equipment. That seemed to be a good compromise between comfort and reliability.

Hi, thanks for the video, I am looking at the 520, which comes with the Dinamo hub just to power the lights...(Shimano Deore XT dynamo hub: 6V - 0.5A, 3W) do you know it it is easy and possible to add a USB connection to this hub because apparently it does not come with the USB and just the lights. Your help, would be so very helpful! All the best to you!

Yes it should be possible to buy an adaptor like on the other models. You will need that though, it is not possible to just add a USB

Is there anything similar to Riverside 520? What are the alternatives that have equal pannier bag space?
@SkywalkFPVАй бұрын
Broken rim is a big deal when you on the road o.0.. Are these rims not reinforced with thicker parts of aluminium, like many other tour bikes out there?! The more expensive 920 also has mechanical disc brakes instead of the hydraulic just like on the 520, right?! Getting confused here about what the best touring bike between these two would be, one would expect the more expensive 920?!
@wombat.visionАй бұрын
It is a difficult choice. I think the 520 is more rugged but the 920 is lighter and has wider rims... Take your choice.

Great video, I have been thinking of buying the 520 now for weeks. I wasn't sure about the drivetrain and the breaks. I would like to use it for commuting and 4 weeks bike tours around Europe. What do you think?
@wombat.vision2 жыл бұрын
I think it would be a great buy for that. It's great value and my bike has been a good commuter and I would not hesitate to take it out on a longer tour.

@@wombat.vision Thanks Wombat, one more expert advice, the microshift and the brakes, do they work well enough for my purposes? I would use the bike also to commute to work.

Hi, do you know if RT520 front rack fits to RT920's fork? Did you load RT920 fork with the panniers?
6 ай бұрын
I believe it might fit but I would not recommend it. The carbon fork is not rated for that sort of load and I would recommend smaller solution, like cargo cages.
@ukaszopaek91596 ай бұрын
Did you find the load limits for RT920 fork? I know that alu is more safe, but if they did these mounting spots in RT920 and have the rack in the offer I thought it works...

Hi, Great review. I think you can help me. I'm retrofitting my e-bike for long touring with heavy loads and considering the replacement of the current suspension fork for one rigid one like the Riverside 520 (aluminium) or the Riverside 920 (carbon/aluminium). I aim to buy the carbon one but I fear it is not a good idea for a heavy load bike, although specification says it can carry 20 kgs. What is your experience with both forks. Thanks for your thoughts.
@wombat.vision2 жыл бұрын
I would go for the aluminium version for an e-bike. Just seems like you would have a greater peace of mind with that, especially if you are going to be loading up with a bit of gear.

how are the hunt rims so far? what happened with Rene's tires? thanks
@wombat.vision Жыл бұрын
I have used the Hunt rims for a while, but on my Kona Libre rather than the Riverside. They have been great and make the bike feel a bit more lively but I am not sure I would use them on a longer bikepacking trip as I am not sure they are strong enough. Not really a fault of the rims but more that I weigh a bit much and with a bit of equipment along as well, I tend to be rather hard on rims. I managed to crack the Riverside 920 rear rim as well as the rear rim on my Surly Troll when I did my longer trip down to Italy, along the Trans Germany Bikepacking route. I am still using one of the Rene tires on my city bike but the other is worn out.

How did you install rhe USB? Please
@wombat.vision Жыл бұрын
The USB charger came installed and ready to use on the 920. It is easy to mount as it fits in the fork tube, all it needs is a star nut with an opening for the cable to pass through and then the charger replaces the ahead set top cap.
