Hello, I'm looking into Pathology and very interested in the field. I'm trying to find a shadowing opportunity in my area to get a more specific grasp of the field. Would you mind sharing your preferable ways to find shadowing? Also from my research, it seems like there are many specialize going into pathology, after Med school when you get into your residency, do you have to train as a generalist? Last question (I'm sorry it's been a long one), do you have to cut organs? Thank you!!
@Baking_MD3 жыл бұрын
For shadowing, you should try to reach out to different programs to see if they will allow for an observer. Yes, there are many subspecialties in pathology that take place as fellowships after residency (see kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWTQc5pjoqlgopo). And yes, we have to gross specimens, that is an default in pathology residency.

Hi Were you able to find shadowing opportunities?

It’s interesting how different these numbers are in each country and knowing the US and each state and specialty. You also have to pay back your loans right? We earn more as pathology residents in Switzerland but I think the difference for senior pathologists is smaller. The salary in the US seems to be less regulated though. And the risk to be sued seems to be somewhat higher and therefore you need special insurances I have read.

Yups, our medical training system isn't the best. Most take on a lot of debt that takes years to pay off once becoming an attending

Thank you for this informative video 😍😍 So you think that we could just save 200-400 $ from our salary every month in our residency

If you are trying to budget out monthly costs for residency while on a IDR plan, then yes.

But after completing residency..the salary of pathologists is too high(300k$+) even more than IM,FM(200-220k$)
@Baking_MD10 ай бұрын
That's actually not necessarily true. For the ones that go to private practice, sure they make >300k, but in academics we make about the same as IM and FM.

What is the scope for Overseas pathologist in USA
@Baking_MD10 ай бұрын
As long as they do residency in the US and have a Visa, they can practice the same as me. That said, there is still a shortage of pathologists.

Hi Dr.Cindy what math do i need to learn to be in pathology?

Basic math that you learned in grade school. It's not really a math intensive specialty.

Unfortunately I do not know much about veterinary pathologists. I'm sure there is a lot some similarities, as humans and animals do share some similar tumors and pathologies.

Very informative video ma'am. Thanks for info. How much salary to expect as a pathologist ?!
@Baking_MD3 жыл бұрын
My impression is that starting for academic pathologist is around $170-210, and private is around $260-310. This is a useful article: www.cap.org/member-resources/articles/the-state-of-pathologists-job-market-and-compensation

Is it true that it is difficult to find a job as a pathologist without fellowship? I am an img.
@Baking_MD3 жыл бұрын
It is definitely hard to do so in an academic setting without an fellowship. Most academic settings are subspecialty sign-out. However, it would be easier to find a job without a fellowship in a community setting.

It really depends on what you have been doing with your time since 2011. If this is your true passion, it never hurts to apply. Almost all skills needed for pathology are learned on the job as a resident.
