Nice video. Quick question about using the security door opener thing a majig... Did you install this on your door entering the house from the garage? Because I never lock that door... I just use my remote garage door opener as means of entering the house. Also, I have a code activated remote garage door opener on the outside. Lastly, there is a battery power backup for the garage opener in case of power outage...

Good tip: Bag and tag everything (especially the fasteners) as you take it apart. Take photos before you start disassembly. I did that when I rebuilt my vans transmission and it was invaluable putting it all back together.

Thanks Samcrac! I bought one of those security systems and installed to surprise my wife. I had to go on a business trip and forgot to tell her. I found out that I don't have to worry anymore for letting her alone! Every day the postman came he stayed at least 30 minutes just to make sure that all the post is fine!

why in the hell would you use and extinguisher? spray that stuff on engine bay and you would have to remove the whole engine and tear it down and repair cause the powder get's everywhere. i was working in historic rally and an old BMW 2002 got on fire and that whole motor was toasted and ruined cause of the fire and extinguisher so... just use water :D

​@@brandon55513 NEVER use water on an engine fire, regardless of whether or not it's running. There's a good chance it's oil that is burning. Spraying water on burning oil will cause the oil to splatter, and the vaporized and spattering oil will cause a huge fireball and spread the fire everywhere. Same reason you never use water on a grease fire in the kitchen. Same result.

Sam, please post an update soon, I think we're all curious how bad the fire actually was. Also, here's some advice. When you've done work like that, ALWAYS do a cold test of the fuel system. Turn the ignition on but don't start the engine, and check for leaks. If you find that there wasn't fuel during the test, then redo the cold test. The first time the manifold in my Z3 came off, it was spraying petrol all over the place during the cold test.

Hey Sam, you have inspired me to go and take on a rebuild project of my own, nothing as major as what your doing as of yet, but I picked up a cheap runaround a Peugeot 207 with front end damage as the price was right. It's down as a (catergory n) non structural damage a simple bolt off bolt on job. I found all the parts I needed in one place really cheap and an exact colour match to. I had to strip the donor car myself the reason the parts were so cheap. It took me a few hours to strip and rebuild mine, with a little bit of grinding needed to remove the front wing and after completing you can't even tell. All I can say is I'm hooked and I'm now looking for another project, registration at Copart complete bring on the next one. Sam if you manage to read please reply so I know you have thanks.
